RibbleValleyRover Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Needs to be started, with Junior. Tonight. I'd like to see them play together tonight, thought they have linked up well the times they have played together.
herbergeehh Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Delighted! Can't wait to see him play with Di Santo. As much as I like McCarthy, Di Santo looks like a dream partner for any striker, and especially a poacher like Kalinic. NK's tenacity in goal scoring positions will end in many goals, you can see how much he wants it every single time he is near the opposition's goal. He'll do a double vs Portsmouth at home, I can feel it!
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Not a bad performance tonight but this lad needs games and lots of them to find his feet against Premiership level opposition.
Hughesy Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Just got back from the game - thing that annoys me most is how little our players pass to him!! FFS pass to him! His set-up for Benni was quality, turned his man, beat the next and then layed a good pass to Benni.
Backroom Tom Posted October 27, 2009 Backroom Posted October 27, 2009 Well done Nikola, unlucky not to score earlier and very unslefish squaring to Benni for the fourth (I think with more confidence he would have gone alone though)
Tim Southampton Rover Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 To those who saw the match, how did he do today?
CrazyIvan Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 To those who saw the match, how did he do today? Not bad to be honest. He wasn't passed the ball a number of times and I was shouting 'Pass it to Kalinic' when he was in a good position. Broke away at pace and laid the perfect ball to Benny who was incredibly precise in his finish. He deserved his goal and seems to be coming on. Certainly more composed and a lot stronger.
hollowsr Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Good performance by him I thought. Got himself into the box when the ball was out wide but didn't get the opportunities from the crosses. Can hold the ball up quite well with his chest and then looks for people to pass to. Deserved his goal tonight especially after the great run for Benni's goal. Saw something tonight which makes me think he may make it here. I know it was against weaker opposition but he played well and seems to know what he wants to do.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Is he actually a quick footballer? When i've seen him play, he hasn't really had a chance to show how quick he is and I've heard mixed opinions on how much pace he actually has. If you could compare to another Rover, who would you compare his pace with?
den Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Did some good things - header against the bar that he might have done better with, scored his penalty, Put Benni in with a lovely pass. Apart from that he struggled to get into the game really. He was tending to allow the ball to go past him too often, hoping for a runner behind him. He needs to get hold of the ball and pass it better than what he did tonight. Despite some saying he held the ball up well, I thought that was his weakness.
Hughesy Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Header against the bar was more or less level with the goal line, he would of struggled to do much better to be fair. As for getting in the game, he stayed in the middle, came short, went wide etc....but nobody passed him the ball!! FFS pass it to him!!
Parsonblue Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 For me the jury is still out on this lad. He did well in setting up Benni, but in fairness the defender did slip in front of him, to give him the opportunity to break clear. My main concern is his lack of pace. At the moment he seems very sluggish and doesn't appear to be particularly quick. Hopefully, tonight will give him some confidence.
JAL Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Just got back from the game - thing that annoys me most is how little our players pass to him!! FFS pass to him! His set-up for Benni was quality, turned his man, beat the next and then layed a good pass to Benni. You say he turned his man directly in front of me, it looked like a bit of misscontrol that caught the defender out then the next covering defender who came fell on his arse a real comedy of errors the rest we know. Luck eh!
Hughesy Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 From the blackburn End it looked like he turned his 1st man, the 2nd slipped, and then he played a simple but perfect ball to Benni.....
modes98 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 It doesn't matter how you get past players, much like it doesn't matter how you finish chances, just as long as you do it. Progressing well and hopefully will be ready to take over from Di Santo come January. Can't ask for more than a goal and an assist.
JAL Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 From the blackburn End it looked like he turned his 1st man, the 2nd slipped, and then he played a simple but perfect ball to Benni..... There was a bit of good fortune in that first turn trust me.
Amo Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 You say he turned his man directly in front of me, it looked like a bit of misscontrol that caught the defender out then the next covering defender who came fell on his arse a real comedy of errors the rest we know. Luck eh! And surely you'd expect him to exploit that chance? Which he did. So what's the problem?
Silencio Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 There was a bit of good fortune in that first turn trust me. JAL it seems like you want him and the young players to fail. Give them some time.
Ozz Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 On the evidence of last night, he looks like a better penalty take than Reid-who nearly did his cruciate in taking his! Kalinic rolled his cooly, sending the keeper.
Majiball Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Found himself in some reasonable positions, so at least he's not weak off the ball. People will pass to him once they get more pitch time together and build some understanding. He certainly looks stronger, but seriously suffers from I was a tall kid syndrome. Scored one made another regardless of quality of opposition he did the job asked of him. Hopefully now he gets on against United so he has the chance to carry it on. 20-30 at the end when Di Santo is flagging won't do him any harm (dependent on the game situation off course).
