But defenders do fall over - it happens all the time. Sometimes their fall enables people to go through, sometimes they fall just because they slip and sometimes the fall is because they are under pressure from the forward. It's whether you can take advantage of any mistake, most goals come from some kind of mistake, and he did so why not give him credit. He got the ball, saw the opportunity and we scored

It was right in front of us. Kalinic looked liked he never had full control of the ball and the pass to Benni was the only option other than it slightly running away from him. In other words he had lost the momentum to go it alone.

Utter b0ll0x - it was 2 against 1, he could have gone alone, but rather than being greedy, passed it to a player in a better position and Benni did the rest. Abit like Dunn should of done with the ball against Burnley in the 2nd half.

Agreed. He looked like he had the ball under control from where I was sat. If it was getting away from him, how the hell was he able to make the pass to Benni so comfortably or will you tell me that it was a shot really?

Watching the highlights show that it was indeed excellent skill by Kalinic.

It's almost as though some people on here actually want him to fail. That is an attitude I really can't understand.

I think we should avoid looking through rose coloured spectacles. Of course every fan wants every Rovers player to do well regardless of ability. Football is cruel and competitive and a more realistic view is that some players will succeed and some will fail. The very essence of the game.

I think it idiotic to suggest Rovers fans who go do not support Rovers or want Rovers players to fail.

No-one on here wants him to fail Leftwinger.

Thanks Den

The lad's stats in Croatia were amazing in terms of shots on to shots off and goals per game ratios. He is a tall boy with good physique from what I can see so I am pretty confident we will be looking back at the early part of this thread after Christmas and asking ourselves what was all that doubt about back then.

Do you and JAL sit together? Why don't you try Ewood Park because you never go to the same game as the rest of us. That was absolute rubbish.

Rovers are a club with limitations financially. We have two top earners way off first team starts. It is important.

Why is it that important? We have players to step into thier boots dont we? I dont see what his pay has to do with it either.

Give the guy some time, he will get there and will be a regular after christmas when Franco heads back to Chelsea.

The way to look at things should be based on what Sam said. He told us that Salgado, Van Herden, Kalninic and NZonzi would need time to settle and get used to the english game.

Kalinic & Salgado are showing improvements already and have both bagged a goal each

NZonzi looks like a bargain already and has played in 9 games.

Van Herden - picked up an injury early on and he has yet to make any impact.

Overall Sam said give them time...its proving right with 3 of the 4 so far.

Nzonzi didn't need time did he Hughesy- he was in from the start wasn't he?

Yes but when Sam signed him (based on what he had seen) - he said he would need time and was one for the future...He was forced to play him, and now the lad is progressing very well.

True, Sam has said he is surprised by how he has slotted in.

Imagine if he had been poor, our midfield would be even worse!!

Yes, so why does Kalanic need time? What's the difference?

They both need time....

The difference being that our midfield is weak so NZonzi has been thrown in at the deep end, compared to Kalinic who hasnt had much of a chance yet..like many of our other stikers this season, thanks to the form of Dunn.

I guess its because Sam does not feel he is good enough yet to start games and we have other decent options (Di Santo and Dunn has made the 2nd striker slot his own).

Yes John, right answer.

I have a problem with players needing months and months to "get used to the English game". Good player don't need months before they even make an appearance. Will he become good enough? - we'll have to wait and see. Haven't seen it yet though.

Den, did you consider Bergkamp a good player? what about Diego Forlan.

The first took a while to settle in this country and the second took even longer to settle and ended up becoming a bit of a joke. Now probably one of the most dangerous forwards in world football.

Give the lad a chance, he's 21 years old and living in a foreign country for the first time.

The difference is they are human beings, not robots. You can't just assume that the because something works with one it will work with all. There's no perfect formula, and the best coaches and motivators will understand the need to deal with the players on a case-by-case basis.

N'Zonzi coped better, perhaps he is stronger willed, perhaps its because he has had others around him. Perhaps its because his style of play in his position suits the system Sam wants to employ better than Kalinic does. After all, we've been playing one up front, thats a tough ask for anyone. Di Santo has improved as Dunn has, because Dunny has realised the need to stay further up the pitch and not drift in deep trying to help the midfield.

The intangibles are almost endless.

Come on Ricky, that Bergkamp comparison was used for Villanueva, it doesn't mean anything. As for "give the lad a chance" [again], point me to a post where I've said he wont make it? I have my doubts based on what I've seen, but how is it wrong to say that? What do you want - honesty, or a biased viewpoint?

I think what Graham is implying is, when Kalinic had gone past two defenders he didnt look like he had the pace to go it alone and outsprint the final covering defender.

The one overiding impression of Kalinic from tuesday night, is that hes not comfortable heading the ball when under pressure.Ball at feet is what hes used to not his head.

With this and big Sams love of the long ball and set piece deliveries can understand Sams reluctance to throw him in, looks like Old T on saturday is an excellent platform for the lad to play football.
