thenodrog Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Beckham's moves have all been to a physically less intense league. Salgado has come the hard way. Correct gumboots. Wise gardeners will always try to bring any new plants they purchase south, not take them the other way.

Hughesy Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Kalinic in confident mood article here Kalinic said: “I had no fear. Benni McCarthy called me to take the penalty and I knew I would score. I had scored the last 11 in Croatia so I am a bit of a penalty specialist. “I think our assistant manager Neil McDonald was a little bit worried but I knew I would not miss. It was good to set up Benni’s goal as well. “In Croatia we have a saying that to make an assist makes two people happy – you and the goalscorer. I created many goals in Croatia and I am confident I can do that at Blackburn.” He said: “I will just continue to work hard and continue learning. There is no problem at all in Blackburn for me and I am sure the goals will come. “Once I start playing several matches in a row, I think people will see what I can do.”
Jackson Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Still think we should start the boy, with Benni, and use Dunn/Di Santo in the second half, as opposed to vice-versa.
LeChuck Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 LeC - where is the similarity? Rodallega has played 25 games, Kalanic hasn't started a Prem game yet has he? Read back and you might understand what I have said about his ability, the age of players, whether we should be patient [wherever that's come from?] and whether I've wrote him off. You'll find I've said nothing of the sort. None of those statements that you are trying to label me with are correct. That's why there is a disagreement Maybe when you get that right we could start again. or maybe not. Kalinic hasn't had the chance to play 25 games though, and Rodallega made just as a slow a start to his Wigan career as Kalinic has with us. Slower in fact, since Kalinic has his first goal three months before Rodallega got his. I'm not comparing we're they're at now, I'm comparing the start of their careers in English football. I don't mean to single you out for discussion/criticism on this Den, you're just one of very few who seem doubtful about Kalinic's success that will bother to give a proper reason for it. I will try and find quotes to show what I meant...if I can't find any you'll find a full apology instead!
philipl Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I have just laboured through the last four pages of this thread. Clearly there are some entrenched views. I take solace from just one pass- after Kalinic had broken free of the two defenders and was bearing down on goal he checks his run and looks at his angles. The pass to McCarthy was perfection- he had drawn defender (who was totally taken out by the pass) and keeper towards him and the weight and precision was sufficient for Benni to sidefoot in without breaking stride. It would have been impossible to do that better.

Eddie Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 One positive moment against ten men in ninety minutes, are there any other positive moments to purr over ? Some other nice touches and took his penalty well. How much more do you want?
JAL Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Some other nice touches and took his penalty well. How much more do you want? Just asking eddie.
gumboots Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Just asking eddie. Not the impression your post gives - it suggests you expect a negative answer. I once watched Duff win the Man of the Match award with 3 minutes of play. If you do a few things well much can be forgiven and made one, scored one, albeit a penalty (they count too)sounds acceptable to me.
Al Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 One positive moment against ten men in ninety minutes, are there any other positive moments to purr over ? Just wondered. Have you ever made a positive post JAL? I can't remember one.
Exiled in Toronto Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I don't know where this myth that Sam was always planning to gently ease him in came from. Sam discovered at the same time as us during 75 mins at Sunderland that his budget-busting purchase was a million miles off being ready.

Exiled in Toronto Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 He said when we signed him that he was for the future and didn't expect him to feature much in the first 7-8 games. Hence sticking him on for 75 mins in our 2nd game when he had other striker options on the bench
47er Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 He said when we signed him that he was for the future and didn't expect him to feature much in the first 7-8 games. But Sam also said the main prority for the summer was to sign a striker, all his efforts and,if necessary, his entire transfer budget were going into this. And we ended up with a striker who has to be eased in. It may well pay off eventually and I hope it does, but its hard to avoid the conclusion that Sam is spinning us a line here.
Backroom Tom Posted November 1, 2009 Backroom Posted November 1, 2009 Kalinic is showing signs he can cut it now, his control and strength to set up the move for his disallowed goal was great
Dreyski Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I only hope he doesn't end up the same way as another hyped-up £6m purchase who had a goal against the Mancs disallowed...
Backroom Tom Posted November 1, 2009 Backroom Posted November 1, 2009 Never a foul on Barthez that one, great finish too

Not really, if someone can find something I cant, then I want to hear or read about it, thats all.
S15 Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Never a foul on Barthez that one, great finish too If memory serves the foul wasn't given, it's just Grabbi actually missed the open (ish) goal.
hollowsr Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I thought it wasn't given because it was a goal kick and Grabbi intercepted it when it the ball was still in the box.
BlueWhiteDynamite Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 If memory serves the foul wasn't given, it's just Grabbi actually missed the open (ish) goal. There were two incidents. One was a tackle on barthez and he scored however a foul was given (for no real reason) the second was also a tackle on Barthez but i think he missed as it was near the byline and was a difficult angle, there was no difference in the two tackles, but the ref thought otherwise
Kelbo Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Kalinic is showing signs he can cut it now, his control and strength to set up the move for his disallowed goal was great Agreed 100%
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I remember the goal where the ball was intercepted in the box just as a goal kick was taken and disallowed. I'm pretty sure it was Emerton who scored it. Unless it was 2 different occasions.
Backroom Tom Posted November 1, 2009 Backroom Posted November 1, 2009 Seperate occasion I think, I'm sure I remember Grabbi fairly out muscling Barthez and turning and firing home in one movement only to have it disallowed
DanLad Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Seperate occasion I think, I'm sure I remember Grabbi fairly out muscling Barthez and turning and firing home in one movement only to have it disallowed I remember that. Was it the same game that Beckham took a free kick early and lobbed Brad. So early that Short, who had just been sent off, wasn't even off the pitch?
