I think we need a bit of patience here.Once we get to 40 points (which has to be our first priority)then hopefully Kalinic can get some games under his belt before the end of season without any pressure on him.

Spend SIX MILLION on a player to wait till we have 40 points to play him. I've never heard owt so daft. A SIX MILLION pound player ought to be able to walk into the starting line up and bang in a few goals too.

If someone was to take these three posts they could be turned into a very good summary of the ills of the modern game. I'll have to admit I'm no longer classified as a real hard -core fan according to Parson Blue and those of a similar opinion, this despite 27 years of continuous STs, often 4 per season, and only missing a home game in any competition for the kids Christmas party and the Ipswich semi-final of the FMC. This season I have stopped going to meaningless cup games like Wednesday's and even chose to do other things ahead of a PL game.

Why?

1. The PL is utterly uncompetitive

2. We are satisfied with survival

3. Teams fielding weakened sides in cup games

4. Massive over-exposure of the game

5. We have sold every player bar one that I feel any affinity with

6. We sign has beens and wannabes nobody has heard of

7. We no longer attempt to beat the bigger sides

8. We rest players to aid our survival

9. We buy players for £6m to sit on the bench

10. Anyone who criticises is held up to be some sort of second rate fan

11. 4-5-1 at home

12. The expert effectively tells us all to shut up 'cos he knows best

13. Spanish has-beens who shouldn't be in the county let alone the club

I can't think of a single reason to go to the Chelsea game. It'll be cold, we'll play 4-5-1 and bore ourselves to death before losing. I'm constantly told this is the BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD, in which case why is it full of rubbish footballers, living in Wilmslow who travel to Lancashire 3-4 times a week to train for 90 minutes and probably don't even know where Blackburn town centre is.

If it's so frigging brilliant, this best league in the world, why is the football generally speaking so awful to watch? Please don't give me all this proper supporter garbage. There is nothing left for us now other than to enjoy watching the game which means entertainment not 4-5-1 with half the first-team missing and our supposed star striker left out because he belongs to the opposition. It's a joke.

If John Williams wants my money on Wednesday tell the manager to go out and try to win. Simple. Entertain me because after all we are constantly told we are watching the greatest show on earth.............I have news for you guys at the top, the game is losing real fans and is incapable of understanding why.

There was a time, not many years back, when Chelsea in the quarter-finals was a big game. No longer.

Excellent post, fully agreed.

But this is what happens when football is run entirely by business people who could not give a damn about the integrity of the game. Sad things is many "modern fans" just don't seem to care either way.

Top quote Paul - rovers or the prem league arent inspiring enough anymore.

Will try and make one match this season. Even decided to go to Northampton to watch Munster play the Saints and it was a top weekend. Given i have had few top weekends in Blackburn - nothing can compare to the atmosphere i experienced at Franklin Gardens

Eddie I do agree with you for the most part, but you must also remember that under Hughes we got the 'bully boys' tag. Wenger & co. got us so much bad press for a season or so. Not that we or I cared because we ruffled the big boys feathers big time.

Granted now we seemed to be hated by most without having the 'bully' aspect which is solely down to the majority of non-Rovers supporting fans disliking Allardyce and our route one approach.

Ture, but the bully boy tag was at least a mark of respect. That was other clubs seeing us as a tough game. I used to meet fans who would say that we were their least favourite game because they knew we'd be in their face, chase every ball and give them a tough time. I still meet fans who say that we are their least favourite game, but simply because they find it difficult to stay awake.

Oh I agree. The only reason that Wenger kicked up such a fuss was because he hated playing against us. Outside of the top four we'd be the team to give them a run for their money on our day. Competing for every ball, hounding the opposition, crunching 50-50's - today we roll over and have our tummy's tickled. The Robbie Savage who we signed from Brum would be perfect for us now and would no doubt rub off on his lacklustre teammates.

The ironic thing is that Rovers aside, the other team who nobody wanted to play was Allardyce's Bolton. How times have changed.

Similar to what Paul has said but there was a time when Blackburn away was the draw that no team wanted - today Chelsea see it as an easy fixture.

Unfortunately the board didn't have the balls that the players had, they bowed to the media witchhunt and instructed Hughes to clean up our act when in fact they should have been supporting him.

Oh what I would give for 31 year old Robbie Savage right now. IMO Hughes's best signing for the club.

I look back on the 'bully boy' days fondly. I'd love to have that tag now if it meant actually giving the top four a game.

Was about to say the very same. We've missed Sav terribly since he left. I agree that he was Hughes best signing - and I'd go as far as to say letting him go when we did was his biggest mistake. If you look at the midfield we have now, it really hits home.

As far as Kalinic goes, every time he comes on he looks to me to be our most active and most interested striker. We need to give him a chance to play alongside Di Santo for a decent period of time - how that partnership looks should define our January business one way or another. We're running out of time to find out.

What exactly was the reason for savage being sold. I am still confused on this issue. To get money for him whilst we still could? But yet, we did not use the money to replace him - why would we sell him so hastily with no replacement in mind?

He asked to move when he realised that he wasn't guaranteed to start on a regular basis.

And fair play to both the player & club for not wasting money on it! He wanted to play, we allowed it and everyone was happy and we saved his wages.

I think Sam will fix our 'battler' position this next summer. Grella could very well become that man given a decent run in the team. NZonzi also looks very promising!

GIVE OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He needs to donate his body to medical research when he snuffs it, I'm sure the quacks will be fascinated.

Isn't it depressing how many of our players over the last few years we can say that about? All tend to be midfielders too.

The only thing is that he might be shattered after 120mins tonight. I certainly hope not but I can see that excuse being typed up by Rovers already.

More confirmation if it was needed that he should be given his run in the first team.

Great show from Kalinic tonight! Can't believe our fans were already writing him off, when he's hardly had a sniff of first-team action.

It's true he might be tired, but nothing that says he can't start the next game.

I agree Topman, from what i heard he was immense tonight and has to be pushing for a start against Liverpool if he is fit enough.

Professional marathon runners go for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours and are shattered for weeks after. Kalinic has been going for 120 minutes. He might need a rest, he's a professional not a robot.
