Backroom Tom Posted December 9, 2009 Backroom Posted December 9, 2009 Did he not play 75 minutes V sunderland then another 15 or so V West Ham? I'm not saying it has ruined him but the fact is Sam is preaching agaisnt exactly what he did it just makes no sense.

Amo Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Isn't the point that Sam made tentative steps to get Kalinic into the first-team, rather than throw him in and tell him to lead the line?
Backroom Tom Posted December 9, 2009 Backroom Posted December 9, 2009 Either way lets hope Sam thinks the time is now as Kalinic seems ready and raring to go.
Stuart Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Now you're just being greedy having the Kalinic debate on two threads! Are you also a chess master? (If so, get yourself over to ICBINF, Blackpool Rover is all alone on that RedHotPawn website!!)
Backroom Tom Posted December 9, 2009 Backroom Posted December 9, 2009 Sorry I have split personalities. Who said that? My finl word on it is maybe I was over the top in my criticism of Sams interview, I think Kalinic will come good but I think Sam probably expected he would be ready quicker than he was, it's never easy to tell, most of us if not all of us expected NZonzi would take a lot longer to get to where he is now.
Stuart Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 That's more like it, TCO. Even if it was through gritted teeth!
waggy Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 at the end of the day,we paid 6 million for a player only seen on youtube,he's scored in the carling cup against chelskis squad players, its time to see him on the pitch from the start.lardarse made a pathetic statement thats its about the 4year term of his contract, sorry at that price he should have been ready to hit the ground running.if he had took one of his chances at blunderland he would have played the next game.this he needs time is a smoke screen
den Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Waggy's right on this one. Surprised so many can't see it.

He'll come good, have faith in Big Sam. Look at the £18m we got for Santa Cruz, he scored he scored 4 goals in 18 games for us last season and has made 5 apps with no goals for City. We are building a strong young squad. Very different than what Sam did at Bolton where a majority of his signings were coming to the end of their careers. he's not going to build the squad over 2 or 3 transfer windows as it is not commercially viable for a club like ours therefore we must all be patient and let the management manage the club.
Hughesy Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 carling cup against chelskis squad players sorry at that price he should have been ready to hit the ground running. if he had took one of his chances at blunderland he would have played the next game Chelsea squad players - full of internationals and a total cost of around £120m. At £6m - you get the likes of Frazier Campbell, whats he done so far?! I agree, common sense he would of carried on playing for abit, but he didnt score. Like Sam has told the press, look at Andriy Shevchenko. We are building a strong young squad. Very different than what Sam did at Bolton where a majority of his signings were coming to the end of their careers. he's not going to build the squad over 2 or 3 transfer windows as it is not commercially viable for a club like ours therefore we must all be patient and let the management manage the club. I agree that Sam seems to be building a very good side, mainly based on younger players. Kalinic, Di Santo, NZonzi, Samba etc all have plenty left in their careers.
Amo Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Waggy's right on this one. Surprised so many can't see it. Oh dear. You've broken an unwritten rule on here.
den Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Oh dear. You've broken an unwritten rule on here. I know . Just amazed no-one's had a go yet.

AggyBlue Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I know . Just amazed no-one's had a go yet. It's what we expect from you Den
Gav Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 at the end of the day,we paid 6 million for a player only seen on youtube,he's scored in the carling cup against chelskis squad players, its time to see him on the pitch from the start.lardarse made a pathetic statement thats its about the 4year term of his contract, sorry at that price he should have been ready to hit the ground running.if he had took one of his chances at blunderland he would have played the next game.this he needs time is a smoke screen Spot on Waggy, we just can't afford to be paying 6 million for what amounts to a youth player that has the potential to be a star, we’re not Arsenl..... That said, we now have to suck it and see, lets hope in time he makes the grade, he certainly has the potential, I’m sure most of us will agree on that.
den Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 It's what we expect from you Den Yeah, but it's the truth isn't it Aggy? You couldn't possibly disagree could you?
AggyBlue Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Yeah, but it's the truth isn't it Aggy? You couldn't possibly disagree could you? Depends what side of the bed I got out of However he does need a run of games in the starting line up then we can fully judge his progress.
den Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 However he does need a run of games in the starting line up then we can fully judge his progress. Correct Aggy.
Majiball Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Well with 5 games left before Di Santo leaves, we'd best hope he gets some pitch time between now and then.
Ricky Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I think Kalinic is doing just fine. I've been trying to think of other players who went for a similar fee over the summer and have come up witht the following list: Benitez (Birmigham) 2 Goals - £8.5m Tuncay (Stoke) 0 Goals - £5m Campbell (Sunderland) 1 Goal - £3.5m (although I'm sure that will rise on appearances) Kalanic (Rovers) 2 Goals - £6m Doyle (Wolves) 3 Goals - £6.5m Most of the others have made more appearances than niko as well. Campbell has made 16 appearences for his 2 goals, Kalanic has made 11. He was also unlucky to have the goal disallowed angainst united which was a perfectly good goal. £6m no longer buys you the finished article, it buys you a young player with potential, that's what we've got.
Hughesy Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 £6m no longer buys you the finished article, it buys you a young player with potential, that's what we've got. Spot on Ricky. Whilst Kalinic has played 11 - how many actual minutes has got on the pitch? He has 2 against Chelsea, 1 against Gilligham & should of had 1 against United......
Ricky Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Soccerbase has only given him one against Chelse, so he should actually be on 3 goals not 2. I'm sure he got the slightest touch on the second.
Miker Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Why do we even care that we spent 6mil on this guy and he's "not yet ready"? So he'll be superb next year and the year after that. It's not like we're currently struggling and should be thinking about how we could've used the money better. He played against Liverpool and Chelsea and showed that he can penetrate their defence, so that's good enough at this point in time.
