What we all know and what we say are two different things.

So next time a player signs and says "Its great to join rovers, but your just a stepping stone on my path to greater things" then you'd all be happy?

For me he should just either deflect it, or say nothing whether its true or not.

What fan really wants to be told their club is a stepping stone, true or not.

This is just an example: what if I said your missus was ugly, if she really was? (don't take offence, its not meant), for me its the same thing. Would you applaud me for being honest or smack me in the face? I'd take option number two, because true or not some things just shouldn't be said.

As I said it may be all rubbish and I hope it is.

That's a distorted comparison. It's not even confirmed, it's just alleged remarks to the Croatian media.

If he did say something along those lines, I doubt it would be repeated over here. His own country's media have no club ties to Rovers, probably are looking for an angle of him doing well abroad and progressing to help him perform for the national team. Saying Rovers were a stepping stone keeps them happy.

That's in way comparable to insulting someone's missus. It just isn 't worth getting hot and bothered about.

I'm not hot and bothered I just like to write in statements.

What I don't understand is how some of our fans are saying that if he had said that then good on him for being honest.

Thats the part I don't get.

I'm not suggesting I like the fact that he's said it, if he has. Just that I don't see what else he's meant to say if asked a question in a certain way without saying things in such a way as to make what he really wants to say so obvious that he might just as well come out and say it. That's a really convoluted sentence but what I mean is if someone says to him " do you see yourself staying at Blackburn Rovers for a number of years?" if he says "yes I see myself staying. I don't want to move" then if and when he does we'll all be on his back. If he says "I want to concentrate on doing my best for Rovers" the we all read into that "with a view to moving to a bigger club if the opportunity arises" anyway so he might as well say it's a stepping stone because we all assume it anyway. Only fans can't imagine changing clubs.

We all know that he doesn't want to stay here for his entire career unless something drastically changes or he doesn't fulfill his potential, but players should just learn to not come out and say anything like that. Keep your mouth shut, respect the club that you are at and get on with your business. If you do well enough a bigger club will come in for you and you will get your move.

In fairness it's probably how the club was sold to him and his agent in the first place. If I was representing the club in negotiations with his agent I'd start off by citing Bentley, Warnock, RSC as recent examples of how we developed players and then sold them on to top clubs.

Ok the ugly missus example was a bit off the point but the basics of it are the same.

So I'll pose it in a different form.

So Sam what plans do you have for the future?

Well I just came to Blackburn because they gave me a chance to get back into the premiership, I won't be staying here long. This club is just to re-establish myself for a couple of seasons before I move on to bigger and better things. They are just a small club and not big enough for me long term, I feel my talents are destined for better clubs than Rovers. (This is just an example, Sam has not said this)

Now true or not for me, thats not on as Eddie has also said. Its about respect, something that is sadly lacking these days. We most probably do use RSC and BENTley as examples of what can happen if a player does well here and that as long as all parties are happy we won't stand in the way of someones desires. But we don't go around saying it in public, to the whole world.

For me whether he said it or not, is irrelevant, now its the fact that our fans are accepting of the comment if true. What I would say is that you have adapted due to the goings on in the last few years. I will never accept a player telling the press he sees us as a stepping stone club even if we end up in league 2, because it shows a complete lack of respect to the fans the club and all those who are trying to help him develop.

Would you all be happy if, Olsson started saying it, and Hoillet, Samba, Givet, Robinson all came out in the press saying we're only here because we want to be elsewhere, eventually??? They may all aspire, to playing on a bigger stage but not one of them has ever said it.

Because if its cool for one, its cool for all, so imagine what happens if they all start doing it. True or not as I have said somethings just shouldn't be told.

I think the reality is that without some investment into our central midfield then the club is probably can't expect to ever finish higher than we are now. I'm not saying that we need to spend 15 million on a central midfielder, but the fact is that, with the exception of Grella (and he never makes it onto the pitch), no real attention has been paid to our central midfield pairing since we lost Savage.

The club doesnt have to spend a penny on any midfielder, just go out and spot them, then develop, no need to spend any money whatsoever, just time.

Until we have a club where there are 4 or 5 top players (i.e. in the bracket of Bentley, RSC etc) then we are always going to have to sell our top player every now and again.

Now if in 2-3 years Kalinic is attracting the interest from his 'stepping-stone' then we would stand to take £20m away from the deal...we wont sell one of our better players to clubs like Everton, Spurs or Villa - so it would take mega money to allow us to part with him.

If he goes for £20m, then no doubt we have had a very good spell out of him & are probably sitting comfortable in the top 8, with £20m in the bank from his sale.

The key for us is to get a group of players who reach that level at the same stage - then we can refuse to sell and progress to the next level.

Players would leave us to join Spurs every day of the week given half a chance. If you think they would turn them down to stay at Ewood then you're kidding yourself.

They wouldn't have done a season or two back B4E. Times have changed.

Didnt Bentley go there a season or two back?

They've always been a bigger name with more potential, since our return to the Prem atleast. They have money to pay the fees we desire, so not only would our players be happy to go there, the people running the club would be happy to sell to them.

Can you imagine how well Kalinic would do in a team like Arsenal though I think someone like him (Maybe a more proven finisher) would be lethal for wenger with cesc, andrey, denilson all providin you'd get like 3-4 chances a game!!!

I can see Niko stayin for at least another 2 seasons and like previosly mentioned if he goes for mega bucks im sure we will be the top 10 and make a huge profit. :) sort of club we are now unfortunatly but at least were not Leeds, Charlton, Pompey, Newcaslte, Southampton its just a way of progreesion i suppose.

On another note as of next season (Or last 10 games) I would love to see a strike partner (Prefarably FDS) start right up top with him I think that could work quite well but has nicko has stated the chances of keeping FDS are less than 10% :( I think he will be a good prem striker in 2-3 seasons and if we could get him for anything less than say 3m i would sign him :)

Top 10 finish any1 :)

I should have said three/four/five years ago, when we were finishing in the European places.

Yeah, Spurs have always been a much bigger club, but there was a recent period where we, IMO, were a bigger draw than them.

He's a 20 goal a season striker. His movement is fantastic. At Arsenal he'd bag loads.

I agree 100% we just can't rely on only him a young man, new touigh league playing up front on his own he would need to be carried through his bad patches and having a partner would really relish for him I feel and let him move on to that next level :)

Bentley? oh yes, ruined his world cup chances didnt it, maybe that should be a consideration too!!

Spurs have more strikers than a box of Matches!
