LeChuck Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Spurs have more strikers than a box of Matches! Well...four, like most clubs.

waggy Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 nicola playing for arsenal,in his dreams,he ain't proved himself at little old blackburn rovers yet
thenodrog Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Until we have a club where there are 4 or 5 top players (i.e. in the bracket of Bentley, RSC etc) then we are always going to have to sell our top player every now and again. Now if in 2-3 years Kalinic is attracting the interest from his 'stepping-stone' then we would stand to take £20m away from the deal...we wont sell one of our better players to clubs like Everton, Spurs or Villa - so it would take mega money to allow us to part with him. If he goes for £20m, then no doubt we have had a very good spell out of him & are probably sitting comfortable in the top 8, with £20m in the bank from his sale. The key for us is to get a group of players who reach that level at the same stage - then we can refuse to sell and progress to the next level. Personally I think big money transfer fees are soon to be a rarity. No ones any brass anymore. Much more 'illegal' negotiations will be done between the 'buying' clubs and players agents to ensure players sign for no one else before letting their contracts run down and walking away from their old club. Signing on fees will likely replace transfer fees. Very damaging to all except the very top clubs. Harsh but who cares any more about smaller clubs and lower league player livlehoods?
Backroom Tom Posted March 5, 2010 Backroom Posted March 5, 2010 Before everyone jumps on him do we know exactly what has been said?
super_arran Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Before everyone jumps on him do we know exactly what has been said? He's on the Rovers player now
Backroom Tom Posted March 5, 2010 Backroom Posted March 5, 2010 If anyone who has access would like to give the general lowdown of the interview it would be great
Hughesy Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 He's on the Rovers player now He's been a rovers player all season
super_arran Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 He's been a rovers player all season It would be quite a story if he's been on a rovers player all season
47er Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 To be honest I can't get worked up about this story. he may have said something to a Croatian journalist, he may not. Just linking this thread up with the rumour about a takeover, I'd be happy if a new owner gave us enough financial support to KEEP the gems we do sign. I wouldn't want us to be signing players for 30M and paying 200000 a week in wages. Its not real somehow, the gap between the players and the area they play in would be obscenely wide, if it isn't already. Just imagine if we still had Warnock, Bellamy and Bentley, we would be thrashing the likes of Stoke and Brum and Fulham and would be at least up there with Villa. Yet we spent about 7M tops on those 3! Kalinic could fulfill all his ambitions at Ewood then and this thread wouldn't exist.
John Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Looking a real class act - difficult for him yesterday but he is getting stronger and more clever. Spoke to a lot of Spurs fans who also rate him highly.
tony gale's mic Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 How many goals is he going to be denied this season? The amount of disallowed goals and times he's hit the woodwork almost defies belief.
Commondore Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I think yesterday showed how the ultimate use of Kalinic on a football field would involve another striker up front together with him. He took the ball in well several times just to completely lack alternatives when he looked up for the pass.

I feel sorry for the guy, and the team, when I find him trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

He's not a target man, he needs to play off someone so his excellent movement is put into full effect.
John Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 It would be intersting and likely to be to his benefit playing with a decent strike partner up-front. Not always advocated it myself, but Di Santo and him could potentially be good.
Hughesy Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 A pacey striker along kalinic is exactly what we need....a Bellamy style player would work wonders with him. 1 thing is sure - Kalinic looks a VERY good player, and will eventually start banging goals in all the time
tcj_jones Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 If we can get in another striker to play alongside him - preferably somebody with a bit of pace - then I reckon we'll bump ourselves up into the top ten next season. If we'd have had Kalinic in this kind of form earlier in the season, we'd probably be in tenth now.
Amo Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 and will eventually start banging goals in all the time Sounds tiring.
gumboots Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Looking a real class act - difficult for him yesterday but he is getting stronger and more clever. Spoke to a lot of Spurs fans who also rate him highly. Bother. They'll turn his head and ruin him so he'll be no good to us till he gets a move there, and no use to them when he goes.

Sorry but i just don't see it. I agree with those who have said to get the very best out of him you need to play another striker alongside him, that and we need to create more clear cut goalscoring opportunities for him to put away.
Hullrover Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Maybe Sam knows what is is doing by rarely playing Di Santo with Kalinic so that his price drops(If he can't get in a Rovers XI he can't be much kop). Then he'll pick him up for a decent price at the end of the season and they'll score 25 between them(at home) next season.
Blue n White Rover Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 Hughesy, how many goals has Kalinic scored now?
Hughesy Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Hughesy, how many goals has Kalinic scored now? Too many to count.. He's our top scorer, thats all I can remember Oh and are we talking about his goals, or his posts or his disallowed ones?!
