vintageadidas Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 He has scored..............wait for it...................you still waiting.......................two goals this season in the Premier League. He will be a decent player, but he is not good enough to run the line for our club on his own at the minute. Roberts is a better option at the minute with Kalinic coming off the bench, if he want to play one up front, isolated all alone with not a sniff of a chance all game!

Exiled in Toronto Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Personally, I thought Roberts should have started on Sunday; for some reason he always seems to cause Terry problems
thenodrog Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Roberts is a better option at the minute with Kalinic coming off the bench, Quite the opposite imo. Roberts only saving grace is coming on for the last 20 - 25 mins as a battering ram. He does bring something to a game whereas he's ineffective when on from the start.
tcj_jones Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Kalinic is twice the player Roberts is. That said, Roberts does always seem to cause John Terry problems at the back, so maybe he should have started that particular game.
RibbleValleyRover Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Quite the opposite imo. I agree he offers far more than Roberts. That being said that I am far from happy with the way Niko is currently being utilised and certain tactical decisions.
den Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 He will be a decent player, but he is not good enough to run the line for our club on his own at the minute. I got absolutely slated for saying that a month or two back, Vintage. You're right though. In fact, he lacks a lot of the things found in more accomplished strikers. His one saving grace that would override all the other deficiencies, is that he does get in positions to score goals. If he does score goals, nothing else will matter.

Totally right, he cannot "lead the line" at all - he's at his best when the game is stretched and there is no line to speak of. At the start of the game, when the opposition defence is organised, he's useless.

He'd have scored 4 if the officials were competent. He's also done that with jack all service up to him.
vintageadidas Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 My Aunte would be my Uncle if she had a set of balls! He was awful last night!
Hughesy Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 My Aunte would be my Uncle if she had a set of balls! He was awful last night! Not a fan of his are you?!
vintageadidas Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Not a fan of his are you?! I am split down the middle to be honest....i want him to be a success as i do with every Rovers player! However, it is his first season in the Premier League. He certainly needs to get into the gym! He was totally marked out of the game against Chelsea and last night. You can blame the tactics or you can be honest as say at present he isnt good enough AT THE MOMENT!
Hughesy Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 The problem I have is that we always seem to fire the ball into him at chest high or above....yet he has showed time & time again that if you play it into his feet then he can hold it up all day.....give it him on the ground FFS!! He also recieves very little through balls from the midfield to give him chance to show what he can do with a decent chance.

A front man has to be able to get hold of a ball from all distances and heights. We can't just play in in nicely to his feet all the time.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 He's not a target man - never will be. It's not where his strengths lie. He's totally miscast in Allardyce's system. Because he can't hold off two men he was isolated last night. Roberts is tripe, but he can shield the ball well and bring the rest of the midfield into play. His movement is crap, so is his finishing and his first touch, but that's not what Allardyce asks his strikers to do.

A front man has to be able to get hold of a ball from all distances and heights. We can't just play in in nicely to his feet all the time. Just some of the time would be good! When he has the ball at his feet he can make things happen, but not if its hit at 6ft, with 2 big centre backs watching his every move!

When he has the ball at his feet he can make things happen, but not if its hit at 6ft, with 2 big centre backs watching his every move! That's just not true. He does recieved balls to his feet, but he hasn't got the game to be able to fend off the big centre halves. He hasn't got the physique or the technique to do that. He is a totally different type of player and to be honest, I'm far from convinced that he has the game to make him a hit here.
Majiball Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Kalinic has been getting good press and playing well, his already hard job will now just get harder. Opposition managers will be paying more attention to him, because he's been doing well. We'll now get to see if he can cut the mustard.
bellamy11 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I thought he did very well for the first goal - showed strength and technique to shield the ball and set up the chance for Dunny. Certainly I think that is an aspect of his game he still need to work on in order to be a success (with us at least) but he's making improvements.

Amo Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Pathetic article.........where is £50k a week and always injured Bullard?? He was signed LAST season.
tony gale's mic Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Number 8 at the 10 worst transfers this season. Our ex-player Roque steals a nice second place! 10 worst transfers More proof that goal.com is full of rubbish. Kalinic does have a bit to prove next season but he's still so young that it was always going to be one for the future. He's shown enough this season and if he keeps improving he should turn out to be a success. We do need a better way of incorporating him in the play...funnily enough one combination I really wish we saw a bit more of this season was Roberts and Kalinic - Roberts to bustle his way through defenders and get the knock ons and Kalinic to be the man in the right place at the right time as he has a habit of getting into good positions.
