philipl Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 If Rovers have a half decent season, it is easy to see at least three more gates this season larger than the 28,389 against the Baggies on Tugay Day.
robbo_rovers Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 How can our attendance be 31,367, and therefore there was nearly 2,000 empty seats yesterday. I was in the BBE lower and couldn't see a spare seat. Obviously there may have been a few in the BBE upper, but surely not nearly 2,000!
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I'm pretty certain we always knock a few off the official gate to squeak some past the taxman, there have been games where they may have been 2-3000 seats empty, maximum, and the "official" attendance is announced as 24,000 or something stupid. It's a bit of a running joke actually.
cletus Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 How can our attendance be 31,367, and therefore there was nearly 2,000 empty seats yesterday. I was in the BBE lower and couldn't see a spare seat. Obviously there may have been a few in the BBE upper, but surely not nearly 2,000! We were sat in the JW lower (near the Darwen End) yesterday. There were a few spaces in the BBE upper on its top outer edges. We couldn`t see the JW upper cos of our seating position, but the rest of the ground seemed pretty full. I`m pretty pleased with the attendance, as i said to my gf "there`s about 29 & half thousand on Ewood today".....pretty accurate eh!!
Ben-2000 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 My ST card didnt work at the turnstile yesterday and whilst I was at the Ticket Office sorting it out (at approx 2.40pm) people were being turned away as apparently we had 'sold out'. Why didnt they just sell the couple of hundred or so seats that were spare in the corners of the BBE upper rather than turning people away, surely the family stand rules have to be relaxed when the rest of the ground is sold out! With that said i'm suprised the official attendance wasn't slightly higher (maybe 29,900) as there was no empty seats elsewhere from what I could see. Maybe there were quite a few single seats left in the BBE upper scattered around. Also, the 31,000 odd capacity is inaccurate as this includes some seats that are not 'sold' eg press, dugouts etc so we would never ever get this figure. Rovers don't fiddle the books, everything is computerised these days anyway so there's no way they would risk getting away with that for a few quid.
stuwilky Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 There was a patch of empties at the corner of the Riverside/Darren End. I am also led to believe that tickets were taken off sale due to City fans trying to purchase in home areas.
Ben-2000 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 There was a patch of empties at the corner of the Riverside/Darren End. I am also led to believe that tickets were taken off sale due to City fans trying to purchase in home areas. Fair do's on both points, I was in the Riverside so obviously didn't notice the empties in there, here's to a few more gates in the top 50 this season
dj54nna Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 There were quite a few empty seats in JW upper that I could see from the shed and a few in the lower corners. The amount of seats given to the press in JW upper seems to be bigger than it used to be. I tried getting some tickets for some mates who fancied the match last minute but I was told it was a complete sell out by the ticket office. I was a bit annoyed when I saw all the empties upstairs.
philipl Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I think you are forgetting, the club had an obligation to hold seats back in case DE ST holders showed up didn't they?
92er Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 If Rovers have a half decent season, it is easy to see at least three more gates this season larger than the 28,389 against the Baggies on Tugay Day. When I read the LT, I was very surprised at the attendance for Saturday's match-everybody had predicted a near 30,000 crowd-and now I understand what happened. The LT showed the attendance for the WBA match, not the City one. Anyone want to tell Cryer about the mistake?
cletus Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 I think you are forgetting, the club had an obligation to hold seats back in case DE ST holders showed up didn't they? No they didn`t. Darwen End ST holders were entitled to a complimentary ticket.....but those ST holders were told they were on a strict 1st come 1st served basis. There was a time limit to claim your seat by.
Seggie Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Theres also the possibillity of S/T tickets not being used for one reason or another. For instance I was on holiday and missed the game.

I was on holiday and my mum gave my season ticket to one of their friends - he had an amazing time having not been in ages and is now planning to go more regularly this season!

Without wishing to appear to be taking the official line, but are you are aware that season tickets are strictly non transferrable.
Ben-2000 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 To resurrect an old thread... I wonder where the Liverpool game will rank in the top 50 list, surely it will be in there... Looking back at the top of the list, we have had no attendances over 30,500 since the mid 90's... has the capacity been slightly reduced? - we have obviously had sell outs since then!

philipl Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 25,953 is an amazing figure when you consider Bolton, Everton, Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and Sunderland have not been to Ewood yet.
Mattyblue Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 25,953 is an amazing figure when you consider Bolton, Everton, Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and Sunderland have not been to Ewood yet. Thing is it could have been higher if we had chose to give Dingles more tickets, or Wolves and Stoke who sold out their 3k allocations. So the high average is based on more Roverites in the ground not inflated by away followings. Lets get plenty of half season tickets sold now.
Ben-2000 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 vs Liverpool (dec 09)........29,660 Just 340 more and we'd have hit the magical 30,000 mark, oh well never mind
rog of the rovers Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Sunderland on the 28th and the Villa semi final should make that list based on current attendances
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 These last 17 years of Premierleague football have seen some of the biggest and most consistent average gates in the clubs long history.
cletus Posted December 20, 2009 Author Posted December 20, 2009 An excellent gate of 26,490 against Spuds saw the average attendance this season rise to over 26k It`s now at 26,013 & our next home game is Sunderland (hopefully another good gate there!) The increase in gates this season has been quite impressive. If you look at the championship season, our average gate was 25,271 so we`re currently above that, but trailing a fair way behind the 95/96 seasons average of 27,695 Bearing in mind we`ve still got Bolton, Everton, United, Chelsea & Arsenal to come to Ewood.
1864roverite Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Sunderland have sold out their entire allocation for Ewood. So, as it stands, Ewood Park might find itself rocking to another very decent crowd for the next home game. Villa are well on their way to selling 5000 plus for the Cup semi final so again, another good home crowd beckons. I just wonder if the team on the pitch can offer some sort of entertainment for us Blue and White supporters.
