Nicko, has there been any talk behind the scenes on giving Hoilett a new contract?

iirc it was unleaded who said he didn't have long to left on his current contract and that some German clubs were interested? He looks like he has real potential and it would be seriously bad business imo for him to leave now.

Worried with our wages being stretched that we might not be able to offer him a new deal.

There is no way Hoilett can be allowed to leave...end of story.

Benni can go at the right price and Roberts is always going to be 'next man in' at any proper club.

Your best team? In my view...

Robinson - Chimbonda, Samba, Nelsen, Givet - Salgado - Dunn, N'Zonzi, Pedersen - Kalinic, Di Santo.

Get that lot on the park and you will be ok...more than ok.

Rem the old saying?

Them as can.... Do. And them as can't.... Teach. ^_^

Both...hopefully something will happen because I think you are a midfielder short...and ideally a cover left back.

I would play 4-1-3-2...with Salgado conducting the traffic in front of midfield. It would let the other three midfielders sit or attack and I would also try the kids up front as a pairing.

Hoilett would be an option too. But best as a sub just now. A bit like the kid Guerrero at Burnley.

Fair do's

Dunn on the right of the three with N'zonzi pushing/dropping as required. I'd probably put diouf right and Dunn in the middle with N'zonzi coming off the bench. I think we could get some fliudity going with those three working together since they can all play in most of the positions. Then with some pace and guile up front hopefully from those two, although I'd be trying to get Hoillet up to speed as quickly as possible to take over from Diouf.

Although I think we'll be seeing quite a lot of the 4231 we saw yesterday.

Givet, Chimbonda, Olson?

Are you advocating 4 players for every position?

Correct. .............. err not yet anyway. We are BRFC rem and if things go according to plan he will go for big money sooner or later.

Well I'm not sure I agree with this. We have too many of the buggers, just none of them are decent attackers apart from Dunn!

Interesting you put Salgado in defensive midfield. I hope he has a decent range of passing as its crucial there.

If we sell McCarthy the upside of that is that we must be saving over 40k a week wages which is a pretty staggering amount of money over a season. It should allow us to bring in someone in. Question is where do we find the experience to replace him?

I wish we could just click our fingers and find buyers for Andrews, Reid, Zurab and McCarthy. None of them look like they are going to have much of a role to play in the coming season unless we are crippled by injuries again.

hi all,

I don't know much about Emana so can't really comment, although if we are looking to unload a few and bring in 1 or 2 1 name who could do a job for us. He is always sat on the bench of a top 4 side experienced in this league so would not need time to get up to speed. One to consider anyway is Benayoun at L'pool very creative and would improve the first 11 no end

I don't think Olsson is close to being the answer, Chimbonda did well yesterday I hear but left back is not his best slot.

Always happier when the left back has a left foot.

Benayoun would never sign for us and Liverpool will not sell him...

Indeed but Chimbonda at RB would then give us 4 players for that position. As you say Olsson is nowhere near good enough but he is good enoughy for 3rd choice.

nicko is it purely you thinking what we need or are we actually actively looking to sell those two and get in Emana?

I have heard that players will have to be sold before any others arrive...and Zurab and Benni are the two most available at the moment and with clubs interested...it will come down to the size of any bids that come in.

On Emana. That was a possible in April but the price was too big, since then Betis have gone down and the player has not left...so the price will be lower but still around £6 million...but I think that story has been put out to try and tempt Bolton to buy him - they were in last week...however as Bolton seem set to sign Klasnic they may have got the attacker they want...so Rovers coule yet get Emana...but they will never pay the £6 million...loan? possible.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chimbonda played in all four positions across the back over the course of a season. Good value signing.

If you get Zurab out for a similar fee you have done some neat business.

Tribal (not the best, I know) says that Benjani is moving to Blackburn for 2 million, and he's negotiating personal terms: http://www.tribalfootball.com/blackburn-ta...-benjani-285611

I take it that this article is complete garbage? Or are we stepping in it?

If you actually read the article, it's just a rip from the Mirror's which has been already discussed.

Hooray!

At last a suggested line-up on this MB which does not make me think the author is a deranged 2 year old who has already spent 3 man years playing computer games.

I will go with that and would be confident that line-up could scare the bejeebers out of any of the Big 4.

The subs btw would be Brown, Zura, Emerton, Reid, Hoilett, McCarthy and Diouf.

Grella and Andrews would be behind Jacobsen, Van Heerden, Roberts and Doran even to get on the bench.

Nicko, I thought we were only allowed one premier league player in on loan.

Your story today is that Portsmouth are after Michael Johnson (Man City) AND Nicky Shorey (Aston Villa) in on loan. This to go with the loan signing of Jamie O'Hara (Spurs). How is this possible?

Shorey story is mine...no idea about the Johnson thing.

Premier League clubs can have TWO players in on loan from other Premier League clubs.

But it's a good spot by yourself...and quite possibly something Pompey's new regime had missed. ;)

I'd consider Johnson TBH, but wasn't he on our books as a kid?? I'm sure someone told me he had been at our academy.

Not sure about that, but I wouldn't have him. As talented as he is, he has similar injury problems to dunny with regards to biomechanics etc. Don't want 2 of them.

Excellant post and that's why the board cannot santion any more transfers unless they sell first, how could you have 7 players on good money sitting in the stands,I am just glad that some of these who post on here are not running the club,if we can get that team out above on a regular basis we will be ok.

As I said something I was told I have no idea if its true or not.

If his medical reports OK then I'd like to see if its possible, perhaps Hughes will let us have him ala Di Santo for old times sake.
