JoeBlueWhite Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 People want us to sell Benni and MGP ? Christ we might as well sell Samba, Nelson, Robinson and Givet as well if you want to rid us of premiership quality players. Zurab and Andrews would make sense but selling players who have proven they are worth their weight in gold at this level, when we know the board won't use even half the money to replace them is madness.
Iceman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Smith then. Attacker and midfielder in one player. Sam's style. Wash your mouth with soap Gord
American Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Usually these things are linked to appearances, goal scoring, winning things, qualifying for Europe and England caps. All the sorts of things Bentley used to do at Rovers if he can remember that far back. Then as a fail safe, a clause is usually entered to protect the selling club in the event of the buying club effecting a quick sale or selling after less than a specified number of appearances. Again, usually is used a lot there. Basically, you know as much about his transfer and the fees as Iccers does (no offense Iccers).
Amo Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Alan Smith would be fine if we wanted someone in middle to harass and break up play, but we already have Grella, N'Zonzi, Salgado, Emerton, Andrews, who could all do that job. If we're signing anyone, it needs to be someone who can put their foot on the ball and spot a pass.
1864roverite Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Watching Barton, Nolan and Smith on tv. They are all interesting players with different options to offer. Nolan - playing up front. Clearly not a forward but playing some nice touches. Barton - solid - plays a good pass AND MOVE game, driving forward and defensively. Smith - breaking up play from Leicester. All have attributes that K Andrews doesnt

Hahahaha, i know absolutely nothing about finances. In fact Philip knows my bank manager anyway, no to Barton, no to Nolan, and no to Smith. I want Emana or Riquelme
imy9 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I reckon we will be signing Kevin Nolan- he loves Big Sam and Sam thinks the same, would offer us something we dont currently have
broadsword Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I reckon we will be signing Kevin Nolan- he loves Big Sam and Sam thinks the same, would offer us something we dont currently have A slow has-been?
Iceman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 would offer us something we dont currently have Tactics? Game plan?
captainhaircut Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Nicky Butt nowhere to be seen tonight. Sam was a fan of his at Newcastle apparently.
imy9 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Tactics? Game plan? Quite possibly, it'll be nice to see a player comfortable on the ball.
cn_barlow Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 A slow has-been? Good replacement for Tugay then
PAFELL Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Nicky Butt nowhere to be seen tonight. Sam was a fan of his at Newcastle apparently. Why is every body under the impressiom Rovers are signing a player fro Newcastle?
Eddie Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Allardyce has shown himself to be a manager who likes signing players he has previously worked with (which is far from uncommon anyway), so if we are looking at potentially underwhelming midfielders it is a good bet that they have played for an Allardyce side before.

Gudjonnsen (spelling) Sam has worked with him before and can play more than one position!!!!!!!!
RevidgeBlue Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Nicky Butt nowhere to be seen tonight. Sam was a fan of his at Newcastle apparently. Sincerely hope not but a deal such as McCarthy out for a substantial fee, and a player well past their best in on a free or nominal fee, and the balance of the money disappearing without trace would be pretty much par for the course this transfer window.
philipl Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 American is obviously in one of his silly moods tonight. Bentley sale to Spurs Of course Rovers would be naive and not place a clause which stopped Spurs from flogging off Bentley without coughing up the £2m if it had not already been paid...
American Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Either that or Spurs would be smart enough to say that if he was so bad we'd rather sell him than have him hit the targets after spending that much to begin with, you don't deserve any more money. You don't know either way.

Did we get the Bentley money, in full and paid up front? If it was appearance based, games for England etc then Spurs still owe us money i suppose
Hughesy Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Whos playing the best tonight - Nolan or Barton?!
American Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Didn't watch tonight, but from the last time I watched them, Smith, Barton and Nolan were red cards waiting to happen.
