they_think_its_all_rover Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Thanks for the last 11 o'clocker Nicko. will you be updating at all during the day tomorrow? ...if so, I may sneak a peek whilst at work every now and again. Nolan had a good game for N'castle tonight - though went missing near the end. He was picking out some great passes and setting people up on the edge of the box with knock-downs. Everton one, I'd guess maybe Seitiridis (sp?)

Ricky Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I guess the main thing that he offers over dunn is fitness, dunns just finished his first full 90 mins in ages. Did he actually manage 90 mins at all last season??
doctorryan Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Nolan would be a decent loan signing! He is a step up from Andrews. Almost anybody is a step up from Andrews. It looks like Vital Rangers has been reading my posts. The details in that story are just incorrect enough for me to know that they took it from here. Just a little independent digging by the fool who wrote it would make the story much more accurate. We could have Rothen right now if we were willing to pay even a penny for him. Christ, if PSG is willing to talk loan deals now then let's get in. It's unbelievably frustrating to think that all we could end up with is one of Fat Sam's has-beens.
Iceman Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Robbo Salgado Givet Samba Chimbonda Diouf Dunn Nolan Pedersen Hoiliett Kalinic Subs: Brown, Benni, Grella, Jacobsen, Elrio,Olssen, Iceman Seems a bit better that to me. With no money, Nolan seems the best option. He is also a safer signing than Barton. I dont know what to think anymore. Very strange bits of business by Sam.

That midfield is probably not far off the midfield Sam was looking for at Bolton. He obviously had Diouf and Nolan. But didn't he try to sign Dunn? I've never been a huge fan of Nolan but i have to admit he's a better option than anything we've got.
DeadlyDirk Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Thanks for the info nicko Nolan is a terrible player, won't add anything to the team, not even one of Newcastle's better players and we all know they went down. If Sam can get him back to his form of 4 years ago but that's a longshot and at 45k a week I'd literally rather have Fowler back, I hope I live to eat my words but I really don't see what he offers us.
Guest Kamy100 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I knew that there would be a mixed reaction to Nolan. I don't think that he is the type of midfielder we need, I certainly wouldn't sacrifice Benni for him. Have to remember that Di Santo will return to Chelsea in January. I know that Benni can be a lazy git etc. but we will not be able to find someone who can score goals in the premier league on a regular basis in January on the budgets that Rovers work with.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I was surprised on checking up to find Nolan has only just turned 28, thought he was a lot older. I think Zurab out Nolan in would be a very positive improvement to the squad on balance. Have to agree with Kamy that McCarthy out Nolan in might be dangerously counterproductive.

He's score some of the chances we've been missing. It'd mean that we can't play 4-4-2 though - we'd be resigned to playing the 4-1-3-1 formation that we saw on Saturday. Nolan doesn't have the legs to play in the middle of a two.
MeanGreenMachine Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 IF nolan is the one big sam wants im finally going to bring his judgement into question. He would truley be a pathetic signing, and after watching him tonight just cements my opinion. Luckily it isnt barton who was even worse tonight.
Al Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Come on Nicko, is there no chance that anyone will bid for Andrews?
Hughesy Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I'd sacrifice Zurab for Nolan but not at the expense of Benni. Exactly the way I see it. We cannot lose Benni at this stage, it would be a daft decision. Zurab is probably around our 7th choice defender if all fit - so we can afford for him to go. Nolan a Blackburn player despite hating us though...........mmmm that could be interesting!
sewershooter Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 EVERTON...Heitinga wants too much dough, so that may collapse...one of their agents has lined up a replacement...but that might happen AFTER the window shuts...and that's a big clue. Maybe Tore Reginiussen from Tromso??? Norwegian player whose contract expires in october and can sign on a free.
modes98 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Shifting zurab out and Nolan in would be good business in my opinion. I agree. Nolan has struggled without big sam and if he could rediscover his form it would be an inspired signing. At least he would give us another option. If you don't buy a ticket you can't win the lottery, at least sam is in the queue trying to buy a ticket.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Sam is going away on Tuesday...but that is not a problem. The names of the players he wants will be with the chairman. It is down to the chairman to raise the funds by selling a player or two today - with the manager's agreement. If that happens then deals for an arrival or two could go through. It's a bit lively just now, whether it comes to anything or not remains to be seen. I think one will go, possibly two and one should come and maybe even a second. Names and more details later. Not doing other people's jobs for them... Nicko, apologies if this has been properly explained by you or anyone else elsewhere, but what the hell happened to the balance of the warnock money? Sam was quite explicit a few weeks back in saying "The Bank" were happy with the 11m? they took out of the RSC and Derbyshire transfers.
hi-jaq Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Cant decide on Nolan... to be fair, he's always played well aginst us for Bolton. Scored some good goals & on more than one occasion, looked their strongest player. I know he's older now, but as he's only 28, should be starting to hit his best years. Look at the Chelsea central midfield (Ballack, Lampard, Essien), all late 20's to early 30's and in their prime. I know he's not at their standard, but I'm just using them as an example. I think if we get him question I will ask myself is, Andrews or Nolan? For me it would be Nolan every time!!! Fingers & toes still crossed, and will be until 5pm tomorrow!!! COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
Florida Rover Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I guess the main thing that he offers over dunn is fitness, dunns just finished his first full 90 mins in ages. Did he actually manage 90 mins at all last season?? Ricky I just poredover the records and the last time Dunny played a full 90 minutes for us was a 1-1- draw at Villa Park on Jan 26 2008.He played in 23 more league games (out of 50 possible) without the full 90 until Saturday.I didn't realise it had been that long for him.In fact he has only played 12 full 90min games since his return Feb 3 2007 vs Sheff Utd 90 games ago.12 out of 90.
Amo Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I have my concerns about Nolan: whether he simply lost his way at Newcastle (like many a talented individual) OR he really has reached his peak and would only make up the numbers. I'd be willing to take the gamble if we're offloading Zurab, who is now surplus to requirements. But Benni? That would be foolhardy, for reasons already highlighted.
Oklahoma Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Don't know if this has been mentioned before but Yebda is going on loan to Portsmouth, till January I believe. According to Benfica manager, it was a deal that was good for Benfica and allowed Yebda to play in one of the biggest Leagues in the world. And Cardozo scored 3 goals today.
DeadlyDirk Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I agree. Nolan has struggled without big sam and if he could rediscover his form it would be an inspired signing. At least he would give us another option. If you don't buy a ticket you can't win the lottery, at least sam is in the queue trying to buy a ticket. The lottery doesn't cost 45k a week though! Very dubious about this potential signing, if it's a case of fee for fee with Zurab and wage for wage then I guess it doesn't hurt but shipping out people like Warnock (Although I know it probably wasn't Sam's decision) and bringing in Nolan just reeks of panic buying. I honestly think Andrews is a better player than Nolan, I may be in the minority with that one but I really don't see what Kevin Nolan offers us unless as I said before Sam can somehow get him back to his form of 4 years ago. If the transfer window passes by without us signing or selling anyone I'd be much happier. I'm not even the biggest Benni fan but if we need to ship him out as well to get Nolan in then I'm lost for words. Again I hope I'm proven wrong and Nolan has something that I haven't seen in the last few years but at the moment I'm literally shocked, it hasn't really sunken in that were even entertaining the idea of bidding for him. If someone could tell me Nolan's strengths it would be a start. I don't see many that we don't already have equal to or better than in the squad.

Sounds as if it isn't a case of Warnock out Nolan in, it was Warnock out Chimbonda in and if Nolan is to be added one or two more will have to go. Edit: If that does happen in ball park terms it will represent something like ten players in and twenty out this summer, an astonishing turnaround in playing staff.
Hughesy Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Just one should do it...Zurab more likely to go. Would people be happy with Zurab out, Nolan in...........I would be, but not 100% sure Nolan would want to play for us. Also Bolton wanted him last week, but said its not possible......whats changed?!

Hughesy Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Surely Bolton should have some scope though - they have hardly been busy and have been linked to lots of midfield men this summer.
