On the Gohouri thing...I would stress my info is that he is being looked at in case somebody comes in for big Chris...not saying that is going to happen, but you have to do your homework.

It strikes me they are quite similar although Gohouri may have the edge on pace.

He is NOT a free agent, as far as I know, and still has a year on his contract.

Good to have these things covered, just in case. We've been caught out before.

Any other trialists or players rumoured to be coming in or being looked at by Rovers Nicko? And what are Villa up to regarding Warnock.

I believe there could be others coming and going, might be hectic but that doesn't mean they will sign.

Why is that unbelieveable? We should screw them for every penny. Everton will be desperat to make up for losing Lescott, and Spurs are a bunch of nobs who pay over the odds anyway. Why should we roll over and take it like a £10 prostitute to suit another club?

Indeed. Everton would have a lot of pressure on them from their supporters. Letting 6 in first game of the season and selling an England ch is not good PR and certainly not as the transfer window clock ticks down the hours. 10m is too cheap for a guy who is proven in the Prem and a very 'big' player in his club's squad.

Dirty tricks tactics or not (I assume Lescotts attitude is on the specific orders from Hughes and Cook) it's going to take the thick end of 25m for City to prize Lescott away so 15m is an absolute rock bottom minimum for Samba imo.

After watching his giving the ball away and then lack of tracking Adebayor for citeh's first goal I say get rid for anything above £10m....I think we're all getting carried away with Samba...I've seen him lost for pace and turned fairly easily on many occasion against the defoes of this world....I'd like to replace him with Distin from Portsmouth.

Say what you want sam but developing players and selling em on for big profit is now our raison d'etre. The more the merrier too....... just as long as we have replacements lined up of equal ability, and that is the big issue. Our scouts are now our most important players.

That is how we will continue to stay in the premiership I agree Gordon. But after selling RSC for £17million, Derbyshire for £4million etc?

Our primary objective should always be to compete as best as we can in the Premier League. This objective would be seriously weakened if we were to sell a hugely important player this late on with no adequate replacement on the horizon, and with time running out.

Come the end of the season, or even January, Samba's presence could be the difference between midtable or relegation scrap. If each place is worth £500k then being 8-10 places higher is worth a hell of a lot of cash to appease those bankers.

That is why I say put up the barricades.

Jesus christ he is still learning the game. He has pace, power, strength and as he gets older his decision making and positioning will improve. Keep in mind CB's don't usually peak until there early to mid 30's.

If you had asked me before the transfer window opened which player i would like to see us keep the most or not be sold its Big Chris. Its not just that he is a quality player who i believe will get better, but his leadership and battling qualities last season helped keep us up. I'd argue without Chris Samba last season we wouldn't have survived, the chaos he caused up front was a huge factor in us staying in this division.

Yeah and how exactly did Lescott fare against the Gunners? How good did he look? Hughes thinks he's worth 20+m though. How about Carrick? Utd overpaid for him sure but the room he allowed Blake last night was absolutely unbelievable and something that I cannot readily remember a MU Prem team ever doing before. I bet the old RFW had him by the throat after the game last night.

I know what you mean and the time to buy and sell is key but you surely rem Jack Walker himself saying that BRFC is a business first and foremost and must be run along business lines don't you? All stand alone businesses exist to create profit.

This is the season where the league is wide open. I think the chances are anyone can break into the top 4 as they are all weaker than before. Liverpool and Uniteds performances over the last week suggest that unless they improve the gap with teams like Spurs, Man City and arguably others if they get their acts right will be less than before.

Lescott obviously didn't want to be there so maybe that affected his game.....everyone was raving about him last season.

Carrick makes up for his defensive frailties with his forward play....

Samba is fine against the Davies's and Beatties of this world, but he is seriously wanting against pacy opposition on the floor....Take the £10m+ and replace with Distin.

I'm the first to admit I don't know alot about business, but selling off all major assets and replacing them with inferior ones is not the key to future prosperity, I'm damn sure of that.

If we had not received near enough £15-17million from the sale of RSC then my point would be different. But if we are at a position where the next most valuable player in the squad also has to be sold to balance the books, thus weakening further our chance of getting as high in the league as possible, then we might aswell give up right now

So Gohouri could be a replacement for Big Chris if he were to go?

Where would the rest of the money that we got for Samba go in the event that we sold him? I'm guessing Gohouri would only cost £1-£2 million with a year left on his contract.

Who ever Sam has to sell, giving him circa 25-30m to spend would improve Rovers squad no end. (as long as the bankers Etc. where kept in the cold)

I doubt Sam would even have to think twice if those bids where on the table.

No one likes to lose there better players, Samba and Warnock being two of them, but buy selling them it would enable Sam to bring in maybe four players from abroad of equal quality making the squad better and thus more competitive all round.

Don't ask me to name replacements, it's not my job, It's Sam's and the scouts he employs.

In the transfer market it is hard not to trust Sam, his record with us so far is not in question IMO.

According to www.transfermarkt.co.uk Steve Gohouri is banned from Bundesliga football until "End of June 10" he has been banned for "34 Matches" - Not sure what he has done to get that ban. But if true, surely that could mean he is just keeping his fitness up at Brockhall to maybe earn himself a move away from Germany and possibly away from his ban. If he is indeed banned till the end of his contract, then maybe his club want him off their books?

Also Steve Gohouri has been completely ommited from the Borussia Monchengladbach team photo and his profile has been deleted from the club website.

Very unlikely, our wage bill is already being stretched by bringing in Salgado. If Samba and Warnock are sold then i can only see 2 players coming in, not four or 5. And i can't see them being big names either.

The post is hypothetical and as such the overall squad would change dramatically, if four or five came in then the walking wombed would be out the door so wages would not come into it, they will have to be replaced at some stage.

Warnock, Samba, Reid, Dunne and Grella circa 120k at least.

I don't want Chris Samba to go for the simple reason that he is one of only a pitifully small number of players in recent times who actually seems to give a damn about puling on the shirt and getting a result for Rovers. Remember the look on the big fella's face when he scored that winner against Spuds a couple of seasons back? What about the absolute commitment we see when Chris is chasing down the ball in whatever position his megalegs have got him into? Nope, for me I don't think it is worth contemplating the loss of the spirit, attitude and pride shown by big Chris. I think to underestimate the impact of such a loss would be gross folly on the part of the management team. Samba isn't a fan's favourite just because he's a nice chap y'know ^_^

Who cares? How is that relevent?

Perhaps because we'd receive around £10 million and spend around 1/10th of that on replacing him? It's all hypothetical - I hope he stays and helps us to progress.

Samba should only be sold IF Sam is given the full amount from the sale to both replace him and build the squad.

What's the point if not eh Theno? To keep our powder dry for January?

Really Theno? We could be selling Chris for £10m+, replacing him with a cheapie...and for some reason continue to ignore the infirmary ward that is our centre of midfield?
