beerwins Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 benni/ pedersen/grella/dunn/roberts...........theres a few worthy candidates, receiving approx 42m for for 4 players in 3 years(forgetting all the sell on rubbish) is outstanding business for a small club. Not sure what you mean by this post but i hope all have good enough seasons to become player of the season because they are all due them, none over the past few years have been anywhere near to playing to their full potential maybe apart from pederson who's game is somewhat lost in his defensive work. Apart from peds i cant say i would be upset to lose any of the others to other clubs.

Guest ErinBrown Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Boo! I will reserve judgement on the wisdom of the deal once the fee and its breakdown is confirmed...and the money spent. Who gets to spend it though If you got good money for Warnock it is good business. It's only good business if we have a replacement and a bonus ontop of that lined up before the end of the transfer window! If you spend it all and wisely then it is good business. We all know that Sam isn't going to get to spend nearly as much as we need to of this money. Anything less than the full fee and a good signing or two will make it a step backwards. Agreed! Ask yourself these three questions though. Will selling Gally and Warnock satisfy Sam's needs to bring in a center midfielder and other player. Or is it more likely that it will satisfy the money-men in 'balancing the books'... What can you see us buying during 'this' transfer window with the money we got from Gally and Warnock's sales? My guess of what we will do. We will sign Rothen and Gohouri to create the illusion of reinvesting in the squad when in reality we will be replacing one quality player with two cheap average numbers. The vast majority of the money will go into the twilight zone.

tHe_UnAmEd Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 On another note, we can no longer mock the likes of Arse about the lack of English players on the pitch.
Fife Rover Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 The club will have to be very careful here, all the money must go to transfer fund, bugger the bank, tell them to p*** off!! I do feel we have a midfielder lined up! If not 2 !! If money is not put into transfers, then the club will lose all credibility with its supporters !! For the second time in just under 50 years!!
mark1875 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 someone just pointed out to me that robbo was given the armband above warnock last week. missed that one me

Tell me about it....its not the 1st time either. someone just pointed out to me that robbo was given the armband above warnock last week. missed that one me Yeah that was spotted, knew the result of this back then!
DeadlyDirk Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 QUOTE (Ste B @ Aug 22 2009, 00:32 ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm surprised its took so long to happen. His mates have been sounding off about this move for weeks now. Seconded, it's been in the pipeline for a few weeks if not months, we had heard numerous reports than O'Neill was sniffing, add to that their opening two results and it was always likely to happen. I'm not hugely fussed yet, it all depends on what happens next, if the money is used wisely and we can finally sort out the midfield problem then it could be the best thing that's happened to us. Givet is a better left back than him in my opinion, sure he doesn't offer as much going forward but if we can sort the midfield out then maybe the defenders can concentrate on defending. 8m does seem a little bit cheap, especially if it's only UP TO 8m, meaning it could be as little as say 4-5m initially. For once though I don't think we were under any great deal pressure to sell, I think this decision has been made for footballing reasons, hopefully Sam has whoever he wants lined up shortly. It it leads to us bringing in that trial defender and perhaps Rothen then it's going to look like bad business but a top central midfielder and I'm all for it. One club doesn't make a team, we've lost our better players before and moved on, I don't see why this situation should be any different. As I said though I guess it all depends on what happens next.
Fraserkirky Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 8m + add ons would be acceptable for me. Still 10 days to go in the window and there has been a massive amount of ins/outs at Rovers. Big sam is a master of the transfer, personally look foward to seeing what he does with whatever he will recieve from the warnock fee. Lets bare in mind we have Salgado, still have to pinch myself. EMANA please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oklahoma Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Some people get hysterical easily. Hope they don't get nightmares tonight. After all, Gally left and Warnock should be next...
booth Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Absolute joke. In todays market it should be 8mil up front rising to 10mil plus. Thought Sam had said triple your offer. Yes it will get us a couple of midfielders but i get the feeling we are being done here if you compare to other transfers happening this summer. Plus I like Warnock Totally agreed. 8mil with installments is pathetic for a regular member of the first team that was player of the year last season. Where do we get a quality midfielder once the cash is skimmed and given that it won't be a straight 8 million? Very sad about this news if it's true Is it 8mil in installments or with additional installments. If it's additional installments it's not that bad but if it's in installments we're being taken for a ride when you look at other transfers this summer.
novella Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Disgusted at the sale of Warnock. One of our best players in recent times. Hopefully we can replace him but doubt that now. too late in the transfer window. and for 8 million pounds. could get more for F**king titus f**king bramble. Once again disgusted. We might get a midfielder but who? guranteed some 34 year old bag of ######. absolutely fuming! Decent Player Top Bloke. Shame!
Fife Rover Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 If we do have a decent midfielder lined up then it could be a very good move. On the other hand if it simply means bringing in Rothen then it's a poor exchange for the loss of Warnock and Gally. I am sure Sam knows this and will have something better up his sleeve. AS LONG AS IT IS NOT BARTON!!!
booth Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 and for 8 million pounds. Scratch that, it's apparently 'up to' 8 million
Seedstral Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Yet another player who's had his head turned by money. I dont think its a better career move for him but what can you do when somebody will more or less double your wages. How many big players have left in the last few years to further their career and have gone backwards. I think we could all name them and probably aree that we didn't want them to leave but at the end of the day i'm sure the manager and board will still be doing their best for our beloved football club
S15 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Wait a minute.. All of a sudden do we not have enough money for Bentley? Ps. Philip.. Wrong again.
broadsword Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Find it rather disappointing that this Nixon chap hasn't hung around to answer any of the questions about his article. Do you think he knows for sure whether the money will be spent and who it will be spent on, before the player we have is even transferred out?
MeanGreenMachine Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 We cant find a (Please don't use that word again)ing left back for years and we actulay get one in warnock then we decide to sell him for a pitiful 8 million.... How much will sam get? joke.....of......a......club
Iceman Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 All you fans who assume the money will be spent on a midfielder don't get your hopes up, there's no guarantee money is going to be spent on a midfielder. Once they've took their share there won't be much left over. Not happy at all about this. I agree. I think that if Sam doesnt sign a midfielder with that money, then i dont see the point in selling Warnock. Im not happy at all with this news, especially if its not the 8mill up front.
tashor Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Ask yourself these three questions though. Will selling Gally and Warnock satisfy Sam's needs to bring in a center midfielder and other player. The vast majority of the money will go into the twilight zone. There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone................ - but EB is still an apostle of utter sheeeyyiitteee..................................
Blueandwhitemike Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Did Warnock want to go?? Phillipl suggest he didn't, Ste B suggest he did. Can either of you shed any light on why you believe that? I think it is very important as to whether we should have sold him or not. Another player of the year gone, very disappointing. I don't think Stevie was amazing, but he was good, and I liked his style, he seemed to be a big character at the club. The only way this can be justified, to me, is if we bring in another player of HIGH quality, like Bentley or if that's a dream someone of a similar standard. I accept that we sometimes have to sell our best players, but we live dangerously if we let TWO of our best leave in the same window, RSC and Derbs should have brought in enough money.
Steve Moss Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Still crossing my fingers for Krancjar... That would be truly awesome.
Blueandwhitemike Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 i also find it strange that Sam would do an interview on Rovers Player today saying Salgado is it, and only Gally was leaving if Warnock was being pulled from the squad for tomorrow and going to Villa to play for them on monday. It is Rovers TV so surely he can tell the interviewer not to ask him questions on transfers. I'm not saying it isn't true, it just makes it more annoying.
RoversSG Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 blackburn rovers players of the season 2005-06 - craig bellamy - sold 2006-07 - david bentley - sold 2007-08 - roque santa cruz - sold 2008-09 - stephen warnock - sold i dunno who i want to win this year Let's hope it's 2009-10 - Jason Roberts - sold 2010-11 - Andrews - sold
Harry Balls Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 8 million's a bit lower than I'd have expected, but even then I'm not too bothered about Warnock leaving provided we spend the money wisely. In my opinion, and likely that of Sam's too, Givet's a better left back. Warnock has been good for us but far from spectacular. In fact, there's been countless times when he's cocked up and cost us goals. However, us fans tend to forgive him quite easily for these lapses because he's a trier and we like triers. If Givet, Nelsen and Samba are all fit, I reckon Warnock's best chance of getting a game would have been in midfield and even though he did a decent job there last season, wouldn't you prefer a specialist in that position? Someone who's played that position their whole careers and know the role inside out? Now that he's off and we'll get a decent amount of cash for him, Sam should be able to bring in the midfielder we've all been crying out for. I've got a funny feeling Sam knows exactly what he's doing. When rumours were flying around about Samba, he came out and shot them down straight away. He wasn't so forthright about Warnock, which makes me think he's got a trick up his sleeve. Chin up lads, we're only one game into the season.
