^ Sam is a business man, in addition to a man manager. Saying "I'm done buying" or "This is it", is a ploy or a signal that the Rovers are content and are not desperate. Despite this, if the price is right, a deal will always be done. Buyers are encouraged to bid higher and potential signees are encouraged to reconsider their demands.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone................

Don't you mean the Trustee Zone?

Mr Nixon.

Is Sam on board with Warnocks sale???

He has been very forth right in recent days stating thats it on a couple of occasions, Is that Sams way of letting us know its not his choice.

I've said it before I'll say it again, somethings changed at the club this summer.

Every player has his price - but £8m is too low in todays climate for Warnock. Givet may be a better defender - but he can't play midfield and doesn't bring that extra dimension to our attacking play. Also, I still think that Givet's best position is in the middle of the defence.

A poor decision unless a top quality midfield player is lined up - and Sam has seen how make Olsson into the top left back that he seems to have the attributes for - but never quite manages when given a chance in the 1st team.

Anyone want to wager that not a single pound in transfer fee will be spent? Its worth a punt. People thinking we will splash 5-6 million on that elusive quality playmaker, I ask you, who is that player before anything? Secondly, with our banking strategy, we should all know by now that we get around 50% of the transfer fees we make at best.

We might sign another free or take on a loan, but I cant see us selling an excellent player and then spend the cash. Its so not us.

8 million's a bit lower than I'd have expected, but even then I'm not too bothered about Warnock leaving provided we spend the money wisely.

In my opinion, and likely that of Sam's too, Givet's a better left back. Warnock has been good for us but far from spectacular. In fact, there's been countless times when he's cocked up and cost us goals. However, us fans tend to forgive him quite easily for these lapses because he's a trier and we like triers.

If Givet, Nelsen and Samba are all fit, I reckon Warnock's best chance of getting a game would have been in midfield and even though he did a decent job there last season, wouldn't you prefer a specialist in that position? Someone who's played that position their whole careers and know the role inside out? Now that he's off and we'll get a decent amount of cash for him, Sam should be able to bring in the midfielder we've all been crying out for.

I've got a funny feeling Sam knows exactly what he's doing. When rumours were flying around about Samba, he came out and shot them down straight away. He wasn't so forthright about Warnock, which makes me think he's got a trick up his sleeve.

Chin up lads, we're only one game into the season.

Most sensible post Ive read on the subject. Agree 100%. Givet will be Sams 1st choice left back with Olsson as back up. Salgado can play there at a pinch. We need funds to strengthen midfield. These doom mongers going on about Sam not getting any money and slagging the board off should wait to see what happens.

If the right type of player(s) can be brought in then this makes sense to me. As much as I like Warnock's attitude his distribution and defensive lapses are a constant risk for the team. Many of his last ditch tackles are the result of his mistakes further up the pitch.

The bottom line is that Sam knows what he's doing.

Understand what you are saying but I think Sam is being forced by the board on this one. Remember a week or two ago Nicko had an article in one of the papers saying Sam would only settle for 12 Million which is fair enough. Now its only up to 8 million.

Cant see anyone being bought with that money. Especially if it isnt the full ammount up front.

Warnock was a bit of a talisman to many supporters making it hard deal to swallow.

Some believe Sam may have had his hand forced on this one, no way.

Sam has a game plan, Warnock was the player (square peg...) that had to be sacrificed.

I doubt Sam was under any pressure to sell, Sam has no doubt seen someone he fancies.

Come the end of next week, we'll be walking down the Bolton road smiles upon our faces..............

This is an excellent summation. I've always thought the same of Nelsen in that regard. Last ditch tackles look good and give the perception of a good defender. But in fact a good defender rarely has to make such tackles. Positioning and reading the game is far more important.

The only way i can see this being a bad move is if we satisfy the bank and only bring in Rothen. Not that i'm particularly against the signing. But I would expect a big / bigger name to arrive. A specialist center midfield player who looks to play proper football.

I have a feeling you are correct here, someone is available and Sam will have checked this out I feel sure!

I would be amazed if this was a board decision, it MUST be the managers decision, if its not, then we can all walk away from Rovers as we will be finished as a serious club!!

The bottom line is Givet is a better centre back than left back and the money for Warnock comes in nicely.

Another quality player nearly off the books, Samba next to make it the perfect transfer window?

Can't wait to see this midfield genius/wizard we are going to buy with the funds.....

The thing that really annoys me is that Aston Villa look garbage this year in all areas of the pitch. How is going there a step up? Also, and more importantly, they've had since 1st of June to bid for him, why do it 11 days before the deadline? Martin O'Neill is a hypocrite. He was mad when Liverpool bidded for Barry but it's alright for him to do it to us. HYPOCRITE.

MON was not mad when Liverpool bid for Barry, he was mad when the would not pay the price and tried to unsettle the player through the media. Villa have not gone public with the interest in Warnock and have not been in the media tapping him up. So I don't think it is the same situation at all.

All clubs buys players, it is how you do it that is different.

I believe so...but he is also probably aware that the player was keen to go.

Like I say, good business if the fee is right and the proper replacements signed.

Otherwise, crazy.

Come on it's calld barteing (sp) How many deals are done with the full amount upfront, We will know what the next player is going to cost, It's down to JW to cut the deal.

Did Givet play left back mainly at monaco, anyone???

Rothen played his best football at Monaco on the left wing? is Sam trying to re-unite their partnership??

Thanks for the reply Mr Nixon.

So since you haven't heard of replacements, does that mean we've not got any lined up or is that your next mission?

I agree with you Nicko. If we get a good replacement in the midfield of the park this is a good move, if not its crazy.

We have now sold Gally (approx1 £1m) - we are looking to sell Warnock (approx £8m). THat will give us the funds to buy that special midfielder (Emana, Ibricic or someone else).

Considering how weak many teams in the prem look this year, this might be a very shrewd move and will give us the player we need to push for a top 10 spot.

My judgement is waiting before I know what the money is being spent on.

If we replace a 28 yeard olf with a 33 yeard old (Rothen) i will be furious!

You didn't get Warnock on your shirt did you by any chance? You get whoever you get at your own risk. I remember getting Perez on the back of my shirt and he wasn't here for very long at all after.

No, I got Givet 5 on the home and Jack Walker 1 on the away

As usual we sell our best players, even after it's been stated on several occasions that the player isn't for sale. As someone else said, something seems to have changed at the club over the summer. It's hard to put into words, but it just seems like we've become more desperate or something. Warnock is our best left back, of that there is no doubt. Sure Givet could do a job out there if needs be (which appears to be the case now), but he wouldn't be my first choice. And Olsson, has exactly shown that he is ready to step in on a regular basis. £8 million is a lot of money, but as usual, this will get swallowed up by the bank, trustees and the 75% sell on clause that we've probably agreed with Liverpool. It makes me livid, that we continue to have to sell our best players, to make any money for transfers. If we were getting rid of the likes of Jason Roberts, Vince Grella or Jason Brown, I wouldn't mind as much, because they are just squad players IMO. But over the last two seasons, we have sold all of our prized assets; Bentley, Friedal, Santa Cruz and now Warnock. It's a complete f****** joke.

In fairness isn't that the art of negotiation? reject £4 mil, ask for £12 mil - meet in the middle. However, this does indicate that they (either Sam or the board) saw Warnock as expendable , rather than having min fee and playing hard ball -like Bentley/Cruz.

Also worth pointing out that a transfer kitty of 5-6 million for someone like Allardyce, would be the equivalent of 10-12 million for a muppet like Ince.
