As usual we sell our best players, even after it's been stated on several occasions that the player isn't for sale. As someone else said, something seems to have changed at the club over the summer. It's hard to put into words, but it just seems like we've become more desperate or something. Warnock is our best left back, of that there is no doubt. Sure Givet could do a job out there if needs be (which appears to be the case now), but he wouldn't be my first choice. And Olsson, has exactly shown that he is ready to step in on a regular basis. £8 million is a lot of money, but as usual, this will get swallowed up by the bank, trustees and the 75% sell on clause that we've probably agreed with Liverpool. It makes me livid, that we continue to have to sell our best players, to make any money for transfers. If we were getting rid of the likes of Jason Roberts, Vince Grella or Jason Brown, I wouldn't mind as much, because they are just squad players IMO. But over the last two seasons, we have sold all of our prized assets; Bentley, Friedal, Santa Cruz and now Warnock. It's a complete f****** joke.

That's fine but how else are we supposed to make money? Our attendances are not enough to make a substantial amount, especially with the reduced ticket prices. The Sky money is used for wages and the costs of running a football club in a difficult economic period. If we stubbornly held on to all our saleable players until their contracts ran out then we would end up losing them for nothing.

I can just imagine the uproar on here if we began to get into financial troubles - look at Portsmouth. We have to be realistic and accept that buying players cheaply and selling them for large profits is our best way of making money to keep things on an even keel. The last thing we want is for Rovers to have to go into administration because they didn't take opportunities to cash in when they arose.

Clearly it's frustrating, but we have to trust Sam to rebuild the squad on a tight budget and to bring some success back to the club. He managed to do something similar at BW and he's starting to do the same here. It's hard to imagine a player of Salgado's pedigree signing when Ince was in charge, and we have to let him improve the squad further. I still maintain that our squad is better today than it was on the last day of the season.

As I await my lift up North for todays game, I have trawled the internet and media websites and can find NO other report to link Warnock to Villa. In fact the only reference to Warnock is on an ipswich site where Keane refers to the outburst at the referee last weekend !

£8m is insufficient a transfer fee, it should be a minimum of £12m OR a central midfield cash/exchange.

Rovers want to progress ? Selling the heartbeat of our team wont allow us to achieve it.

MON was not mad when Liverpool bid for Barry, he was mad when the would not pay the price and tried to unsettle the player through the media. Villa have not gone public with the interest in Warnock and have not been in the media tapping him up. So I don't think it is the same situation at all.

All clubs buys players, it is how you do it that is different.

Fair enough DV but if MON fancied Warnock why wait until until the season has started when he had all summer. Obviously Warnock will now know what is going on and may well have been unsettled. This now leaves us with either an unhappy player or we get shut. I think MON knows this and has been a bit naughty.

If Warnock goes baracades will have to go up on Nuttall Street if, as I fear they will, The Trust help themselves to the proceeds.

I know someone eariler mentioned that they had name their dog or got a shirt with Warnock on , so he was leaving, because that had happened with other players earlier.

Yeah that may have been me. I have bad previous of getting a player and then they leave in the next transfer window. I even played it safe last summer and went for Derbyshire....

Well just as an early warning I am getting Kalinic, so expect him to go in January or Next Summer.

£8m is a decent deal for Warnock if the player wants to leave and it means we can bring in a player in an area where we have no quality.

Sam would only be selling if he had been given the green light to spend all the money. The only problem is how they are paying, if it is only £4m up front then there won't be much to spend yet.

I hope we are going to use this and the Gallagher money for rebuilding a squad that is now significantly less experienced and weaker than last years.

It seems something has changed at the club over the summer despite the fact that we now have a manager who is well worth backing.

Some posters on here believe that anyone who questions why we are selling all our players "does not understand the clubs position" or "want the club to do a Leeds".

This is simply not the case. There is a middle ground and surely it is reasonable to want to know why it seems that the board have held back funds from the manager over this summer.

I wonder if the board have considered what they will do if Sam walks?

Buying players cheaply and selling them on is the model we have to follow but we are selling without reinvesting. This can only go on for so long. We are running out of decent players, that can only lead to increasing more difficult relegation fights.

We know there is a tight budget but it seems that the club has pulled money away from Sam over this summer, as they did with Ince (for different reasons perhaps) last summer.

With Tugar, RSC and Warnock having left, and only Kalinic and Di Santo having come in, I can't see how you can say our squad has improved over the summer.

Sam was probably told, if you sell Warnock for x amount you get that x amount to bring in a midfielder. Imo they have tricked him, and that Warnock money will once again satisfy the bank and trustees.

I'm sorry, but when did Warnock become something other than a headless chicken with the scariest defensive lapses going? I must have missed that day. Delighted to see him go- Givet's head and shoulders better.

Now Sam WOULD become the messiah if we could get actual cash money for Pedersen- and got back on the phone to Fulham biting their hands off on Andrews!! (who by the way is actually worse than Darren Peacock as a player- something I never thought I'd be saying!)

Er.... Salgado, Jacobsen, Van Heerden, Nzonzi and Hoillet are five quality players you might have missed off your list..

Sam is obviously shaping the squad along his own lines. I like the new improved Pedersen and whilst I'm sure we will miss the creative attacking play of Warnock, I think we will be fine if we can either a) start getting some return from our midfield crock-pots or B) sign a flair midfield player capable of crossing into the box.

I agree with Philipl (I think it was he) who noted that Warnock was somewhat out of place in the squad with recent acquisitions.

Up the Rovers (starting today at SOL please).

Bingo. Wouldnt go as far to say im delighted to see him go though. Just not disappointed.

All the tripe about him being the heart and soul of the team makes me chuckle. Id rather have a talented player in the team than the blood, guts and thunder(ie headless chicken) type.

Disappointed to say the least, as has been mentioned already he was a fans favourite in my eyes, and one of the only players in the current squad you felt a connection with.

But I guess we must put faith in the manager, he clearly has his own ideas about how we’ll play and the players he needs to do that.

Hope it doesn’t back fire Sam.

Can you just read back what you have written please!?!

Warnock hasn't even left yet and your already stating that not only sam hasn't got the money to spend but that our board has tricked him over the transfer.

We will get money to spend, how well it is/can be spent is another issue.

Just speculation on my part, but Warnock to Villa feels a lot like when Friedel went - if Villa hadn't declared an interest he'd probably be quite happy to stay put, but the chance to play for a club higher up the table (and always at left back in a world cup year) for more money makes good sense to him. Whether he wants out or not, he's not gone moaning to the press to try and agitate a move, and in modern football that's almost as much as you can hope for.

IF Warnock is being sold then IMO it is important the club make another marqui (sp) signing (following Salgado) be it an older player on big wages or a young talent (not an unheard of talent!) preferably a centre mid or winger. This would dispel the worries of losing a player of Warnock's capability, give a final season ticket boost and hopefully we the fans get some exciting talent to supply Kalinic, Di Santo.

Aimar, Joaquin, Emana, Riquelme, Bentley would all fit the bill (and should be within our reach - should Sam be given ALL the funds)

TBH the more you look at Bentley (lost his way, attitude issue, value plummeted) he is a perfect Allardyce signing.

But the problem is, would he take a step back? plus he's on a load of money at spurs

"Warnock was Blackburn's player of the year but would like to push his England claims by moving on. He can also play in Europe too."

Worked for David Bentley didn't it? Oh wait!

I can only presume he'll use his signing on fee to have contracts put on Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge as that is the only thing that would help his England chances.

He wont be playing in Europe if they don't shape themselves in the home game vs Rapid Vienna.
