Bobby G Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I think that our position as a stepping stone club has been officially recognized. It was only a few years ago we were still a club with enough prestige to attract some of the best players from "tier two" in terms of quality. Now I agree, we are a step down from clubs like Villa, Spurs, maybe even West Ham, etc...

thenodrog Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Sam was probably told, if you sell Warnock for x amount you get that x amount to bring in a midfielder. Imo they have tricked him, and that Warnock money will once again satisfy the bank and trustees. More like a game of tennis, or more like a battle of wills. ............. Sam put the board on a spike over Salgado............ The board put Sam on a spike by telling him that he must sell if he wants the spaniard....... Sam put the board back on the spike by selling the fans POTY*. * btw No real reason just instinct but I still have a sneaky suspicion that SA might have seen Warnock as a gobby barrack room lawyer and a possible unsettling influence.
John Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Some people have a false sense of reality thinking we can easily, casually replace Warnock. We struggled badly enough trying to bring a striker in this summer. Sam said himself he would need 2 in if we sold Warnock, therefore interesting times ahead if it does happen.
den Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I love all the posters coming on and saying "he was never that good anyway, always lost concentration blah blah blah". Warnock is worth a lot to our side mainly because of the energy and drive he brings to the side - something that will be missed unless we sign a likewise kind of player. Technically he's not the best.
thenodrog Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Warnock is one of our most overrated players. Overated?! Warnock was last years POTY! He must have been overated by one hell of a lot then DE4. Still I guess you know better eh?
broadsword Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Is he? His first team appearances at left back have been shocking IMO. Agreed, he's just not up to it
thenodrog Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Gally is disppointing. I am in the half full camp. This guy is a £10 million midfielder,a rare gem who can do what other can't. I think £4m is a good money for Warnock If you had any credibility at all it's just gone with that post.
thenodrog Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 What are you smoking? He's not even England's second best left back. Are you saying you rate him higher than Wayne Bridge or Ashley Cole then? If so you're taking the fanboy tage to a whole new level. Coming 1 week after the City game I'm amazed that you can hold that opinion. Or were you not there? As for fanboytage??? I'd wager I've forgotten more about football than you'll ever know. Some reactions have been way OTT with regards to Warnock... If he was Romanian, you'd f**kin' hate him. Eh? Generally speaking I think most people would prefer Rumanians to scousers!
thenodrog Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Feeling a little ###### off about this. Not because we've sold a player (because that is the nature of football) but how we seem to be slipping backwards so badly. Not so long ago - we'd be on a par with a club like Villa, if anything a more attractive proposition...... today I sense we're a step down from them and other clubs, and players look at moving from us as a general step up to clubs of this type. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but overall I just feel its getting harder and harder to attract and then keep players who we did get because our league and financial position was better. Finishing lower down the league also has a massive impact on how much money we have to spend. Do I think we'll slip out of the league? No absolutely not since I do think overall Sam is building a solid enough team, but it just feels as if we've become a little like Wigan, buy a player, bring then on, sell them when a 'bigger' club comes along, start all over again. Where have you been since 1965-66? As fore being on a par with Villa? We'd need 10,000 more fans and an american billionaire to be that.
alexanders Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Warnock is worth a lot to our side mainly because of the energy and drive he brings to the side - something that will be missed unless we sign a likewise kind of player. Technically he's not the best. Step forward Michel Salgado!
doctorryan Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 If we replace a 28 yeard olf with a 33 yeard old (Rothen) i will be furious! Rothen is 31, but what the hell does it matter at this point?
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 problem: whatever cash is made available , does he spend it now , or wait and see where we are in january? there is no extra money available if we spend it now and come january we in in/around the bottom 3 how do we get new players in? possibly try to wrangle the illusive £3mil out the trust?
Dunnfc Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Hopefully we get someone like Schulz,Pander,Boka, in! And a ball playing centre mid.
S15 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Rothen is 31, but what the hell does it matter at this point? That's the spirit, is Jay Jay still playing? Seriously though, BENTLEY!! By the way, the Warnock thing, my final thoughts are, what do we need more, a good left back in an already solid defence, or a quality midfielder in a @#/? midfield? Simple maths.
Stuart Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 problem: whatever cash is made available , does he spend it now , or wait and see where we are in january? there is no extra money available if we spend it now and come january we in in/around the bottom 3 how do we get new players in? That's a good point, especially if we need to replace Di Santo.
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Hopefully we get someone like Schulz,Pander,Boka, in! And a ball playing centre mid. If we signed Christian Pander to replace Warnock, i would cry with joy!
American Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Good point. Stupidity on both sides of that particular fence. The places to walk to are getting less. The cold wind of change is not just blowing down Bolton Road you know. Where do you think he could better himself in the Prem? The few clubs with money have delusions of grandeur. Nolan's scored a damned site more than emo thats for sure. Brett doesn't have the necessary Devil in him to be a regular scorer. Nolan scored 1 goal last season and hasn't scored any yet this season.
Sysagent Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Correct me if I am wrong... But he hasn't gone yet has he? I am sure the proof of the pudding will be today's team sheet I guess.
Dunnfc Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 If we signed Christian Pander to replace Warnock, i would cry with joy! Well hes always in and out the schalke team, Boka is amazing with speed. Schulz is top drawer and plays for hanover 96.
JamieUK Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Been told it was just reported on Radio 5 that Warnock hasn't travelled to Sunderland and is in the gym at Brockhall? Didnt hear it myself tho it would confirm last nights news.
G Somerset Rover Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Been told it was just reported on Radio 5 that Warnock hasn't travelled to Sunderland and is in the gym at Brockhall? Didnt hear it myself tho it would confirm last nights news. I love some of the excuses that clubs use when a player is off.
Bobby G Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I guess its not 100% done yet, otherwise there would be no reason to hide it.
Oklahoma Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Nicko, any truth that Everton signed Ever Banega from Valencia on loan? He could be good for Rovers midfield...
