HemelRover Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Nicko, any truth that Everton signed Ever Banega from Valencia on loan? He could be good for Rovers midfield... According to the beeb...yes. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ton/8209088.stm

RevidgeBlue Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 If Warnock goes it's an absolutely disastrous window imo, key players of the right age being flogged off and replaced with "ones for the future", a half season loanee and a 33 year old on a free for a season or so. Not sure how much say Sam has had in all this but I really don't like the direction in which he's taking us. We're just going to end up with a bunch of players drafted in and out for 6-12 months at a time and no continuity or stability whatsoever on the playing side.
vyeo Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Very concerned about the sale of warnock. I've not seen anything from ollson that suggests he's the answer, or a good enough substitute even. We can only hope that Salgado is as good as Sam makes him out to be. If the sale of warnock is only to fund Salgado and there's no other investment in midfield, then i truly fear for our future.
Mr. E Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 The first two games of the season we have payed the price for not having a central midfielder. Everyone with half a brain knew this was our main area of concern for 2 years running. Everyone except the board and BFS.
modes98 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 With all due respect the board can't go out and sign players. Sam has his budget and has to decide how to spend it.
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I'm not sure how many times this needs to be said by our fans, commentators and any human being that half knows anything about football. But i am going to say it again. Sam buy a creative central midfielder for the love of God!!!!!
Bobby G Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 On a sidenote. Just seen the highlights and Ghilas looked great. Scored a good goal, was really pacy and a handful, hit the crossbar. Missed opportunity?

John Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Sam said Warnock's head/mind was not right, so left him out of the squad.
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 According to Sam Warnock was not played today because his "head wasn't right": http://www.rovers.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,...1764987,00.html Sam: "Stephen's head wasn't right so we left him at home. Thats the bottom line. "We know the Aston Villa scenario and it would have not have been right playing him because his mind is not on performing at his best so we left him back at Ewood. "If a lad's head is messed up because of anything that might stop him performing to his best then I would prefer that they say and don't play rather than actually try and get out there and let the team down and let themselves down." Sam was just on Sky Sports News. He was asked if he could see anyone coming in before the window closed and whether Warnock would be leaving. He didn't say he wouldn't or that we would not buy anyone else. He just gave the Warnock being left at home excuse and didn't comment on anything else.

Unless it's just a cover for a deal being concluded and avoiding him getting an injury. Sounds like Sam is thumbing his nose at Moyes' management style. I've said it before but I really hope Sam has a very good midfielder lined up - and not Rothen.
den Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Sounds like Warnock's going the same way about getting a move as Bentley did. It needs a few of his team mates to point out to him, how he let them all down today and tell him to be professional about his career.
tony gale's mic Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 The first two games of the season we have payed the price for not having a central midfielder. Everyone with half a brain knew this was our main area of concern for 2 years running. Everyone except the board and BFS. While I agree we definitely need a creative central midfielder, if anything these first two games have shown that we can still at least create chances even with our midfield situation being the way it is. If we didnt make stupid defensive errors and actually finished off our chances we wouldve had at least 4 points instead of 0, and those two things have little to do with not having a creative midfielder.
John Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Allardyce said: "We will wait and see what next week brings, but we haven't had anything near a bid we could consider to be enough, so he is still our player and I envisage that he still will be our player.
thenodrog Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Sam said Warnock's head/mind was not right, so left him out of the squad. Moyes/Lescott and Allardyce/Warnock. Both players are having their strings pulled by other managers resulting in both players being pulled out of the squad. When all other negotiations fail get the player to stamp his feet and have a hissy fit. After all it's how we got EHD last january. BUT Post match BBC interview Sam says Warnock will not be allowed to leave following Nelsens knee injury! 2nd year running that we've blown 3 points at Sunderland through poor finishing.
ebenrocks Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 I'd almost rather Warnock did leave now. He obviously doesnt want to be here so whats the point in keeping him, all that will happen is he'll become a liability and we'll end up with a player that we continually have to leave behind because his head is not in it. Id rather not have him atall. Despite this with Nelsons injury today, and the likelyhood that we wont be able to get anyone in (not because of money, but because we're running out of time and transfers seems to be taking a very very long time to complete this summer), letting him go is a very scary prospect. If we have an absolute quality midfielder lined up, and are just waiting for the money to buy, then sell him asap, get the new guy in and start focusing on STOPPING LOSING, but otherwise selling might be taking far too much of a risk.
Paul Mellelieu Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Do people still 'connect' with Warnock after today? We might have won if he'd played, but the poor darling's head's been turned.
Rover9 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 No doubt he will be there to pick this weeks paycheck up!
Iceman Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 The Warnock situation seems like its happened before, at Rovers. I just cannot remember the names of those players who threw their toys out their cots.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Do people still 'connect' with Warnock after today? We might have won if he'd played, but the poor darling's head's been turned. He's a professional and seems honest enough. If he doesn't get sold I can't see him sulking and phoning AM radio stations in Paraguay, or putting on three stone and dropping Jose Mourinho's name every five minutes like others have done.
mellison24 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 The Warnock situation seems like its happened before, at Rovers. I just cannot remember the names of those players who threw their toys out their cots. Our fave paraguayan and Lucash.
1864roverite Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Surely he must (warnock) have breached his contract by not being fit and available to play and therefore should be whacked in the pocket for a pair of weeks wages.
Ben-2000 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Our fave paraguayan and Lucash. Speaking of whom, has he actually re-signed from West Ham (or should I say have they agreed to his usual greedy demands)?
RevidgeBlue Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Do people still 'connect' with Warnock after today? We might have won if he'd played, but the poor darling's head's been turned. Who cares, I won't exactly be inviting him or any of the other players round for dinner but I can clearly see Warnock is easily one of our better players!. We need to do a Moyes, rip up any transfer request on TV and hypothetically only consider letting him go if we had the time and money to bring in a suitable replacement which clearly isn't the case. It's too close to the end of the window and Sam wouldn't be given the funds in any event.
