Butt's not what we want, he's just another Grella. We could do with an attacking midfielder not another defensive one. We want a Paul Scholes type player.

Spot on.

If Williams do read this board we should look at Makhtar Thioune at Molde in Norway. By far the best player in Norwegian League this year and has supplied United bound Diouf with assists. A robust midfielder with a lot of drive and physically robust (similar to Mikel at Chelsea). I rarely advocate players from the Norwegian league, but this guy is far to good for this level.

Correct. And imo he'd have been mighty shocked and undergone a reallity check when SA told him he was dropped. SW would have thought himself irreplaceable but to any good manager the team always comes before an individual. Given the result at Sunderland he might find one or two of his teammates a trifle frosty on Monday.

Not sure I agree on your last point Gord. The boys seemed OK with Roque right to the end. Similar to the point about Moyes, I doubt any of the players would be silly enough to make a stand like that, knowing full well they'd do the same.

BBC Gossip:

"Portsmouth are willing to sell midfielder Niko Kranjcar should any other club match their £8m valuation of the Croatia international."

Yes please...

Id rather we signed Tuncay if we are going to spend that sort of money. Kranjcar has had alot of injuries so £8m would be a mssive price to pay......

Agree with that one - box to box midfielder who can score a few a season.

Would be over the moon with Tuncay. I'd even change my username to Tuncay4England.

Wonder if his wage expectations are dropping as he gets closer to half a season in the Champ.

£8m Warnock out, £8m Kranjcar in. Yes please. I guess Kranjcar is on higher wages than Warnock though so might be a tough one to pull off. Tuncay would be great too, although he can't play CM in a 4-4-2. Would still be an improvement on the right or as a second striker, but I would rather improve the weakest area of our team (i.e CM) for that kind of money.

Team spirit is history then Toogs?

But 'frosty' doesn't mean pinning him to the wall in the showers and giving him a good paggering, more like avoiding eye contact and being less than jovial in his direction. It won't change much but it will surprise him and take him down a peg or two. One thing it will have done is re-inforce the position of the manager.

In my opinion, in this context, yes. These are multi-millionaires thrown together by other people, not a group of mates playing together because they enjoy it on a Sunday morning.

Nicko did say that he didnt think Warnock had refused to play.

Ok but Sam has said "his head wasn't right" so he's effectively unavailable for selection. The original point was that our hand is being forced.

I still think that it is and if Villa hadn't bid Warnock would have been one of the first names down on the team sheet yesterday.

Do you think we are willing sellers in this one? Because I don't, and I think he will probably be sold.

Not sure if we're willing, I doubt we're actively looking to move him on, but the board are obviously happy enough with the deal to allow it to happen. I suspect Sam knows where he wants the money to go and is happy to sanction it too.

Time will tell, but its hardly a Roque/Lucash situation.

Let's hope so, and that it doesn't turn out like the striker situation - otherwise the window will be slamming shut on us.

I'm hoping that's the case too.

I agree, by far the best player in Norway right now. See we are linked with Erik Huseklepp too. I really like him as a player, but think he might be to lightweight for premier league.

Bentley marooned on the bench again today for Spurs. We realy should try and get him back, he is exactly what we need in terms of player at the moment.

I'll second that. He would (probably) cost a bit less than Diouf as well (his transfer fee is rumoured to be in the £5 m region). As a bonus we would have two El Hadji's in the squad (his full name is El Hadji Mahktar Thioune) :P
