Lathund Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 lol I think we all underestimated Anderson based on his limited and rather poor appearances......nowadays he'd be given a year to 'adjust to the pace of the prem' and we'd so he'd have been alright! Was a pretty good player. Captain for Sweden with 96 caps, has a CL winners medal, a World Cup brone medal, and decided the German league title with a 95th minute free kick in the last game of the season. His brief stint at Rovers was before my time so no idea what he was like here, or what went wrong. He was 21 at the time, might just have needed some time to mature.

We let a good one go there, too much too soon I reckon. I wonder what others have slipped through the net over the years would be interesting to know.
thenodrog Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 We let a good one go there, too much too soon I reckon. I wonder what others have slipped through the net over the years would be interesting to know. You swine BFS! You've just reminded me of Zidane and Dugarry!!!
Lathund Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Shay Given is the one that immediately springs to mind.
Kelbo Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I did hear somewhere that Podolski was shown the door by Bobby Downes!!! Paul Mariner was another!
Big Fat Sam Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 You swine BFS! You've just reminded me of Zidane and Dugarry!!! Sorry Theno, If its any consolation I could add Baggio in there. Given what a mistake but we had Flowers at the time so its quite understandable.
PAFELL Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I did hear somewhere that Podolski was shown the door by Bobby Downes!!! Paul Mariner was another! Didn't hodgson turn down Zola for rovers when he was manager of Rovers?
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Sorry Theno, If its any consolation I could add Baggio in there. Given what a mistake but we had Flowers at the time so its quite understandable. Another nearly one - as a Shearer replacement - Harford tried to sign Ronaldo (Brazilian variety) before he went to Barca. Unfortunately the deal with Barca had already been struck.
Kelbo Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Another nearly one - as a Shearer replacement - Harford tried to sign Ronaldo (Brazilian variety) before he went to Barca. Unfortunately the deal with Barca had already been struck. Roy Keane was a few minutes from signing and Fergie hijacked the deal!!
tony gale's mic Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Sorry Theno, If its any consolation I could add Baggio in there. Given what a mistake but we had Flowers at the time so its quite understandable. No regrets over Given as we had Brad all those years. Would have him over Robbo any day of the week but it's not like he would have stayed as understudy for that long..
Mafioso Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Not Rovers related OR on topic with regards to transfers, but since we are talking about wrongly judged players... I understand Crouch was a Tottenham reject 12 years ago. Who would have thought ?
Big Fat Sam Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 tony gales mic Brad was awesome and your right Given would never have stayed as a number two. Would I swap Brad for Given, no chance, Brad was better.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Roy Keane was a few minutes from signing and Fergie hijacked the deal!! He had actually shook hands on a deal with Dalglish. What could have been - not only would we have been stronger - but United would have been considerably weaker.
Big Fat Sam Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 ---------------Tim Flowers----------------- Berg-------Hendry---Sutton-----Le Saux ------------Sherwood---Keane------------- -------Dugarry--Baggio--Zidane--------- ------------------Shearer------------------ Bench Given Gale Ripley Wilcox Big Fat Sam I'm off to grab a tissue. EDIT: didn't the Keane thing happen while Kenny was sleeping?? Fergie even doing berbatov's back in the day, wily old Jock.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 ---------------Tim Flowers----------------- Berg-------Hendry---Sutton-----Le Saux ------------Sherwood---Keane------------- -------Dugarry--Baggio--Zidane--------- ------------------Shearer------------------ Bench Given Gale Ripley Wilcox Big Fat Sam I'm off to grab a tissue. I'd rather have Ripley than that ponce Dugarry. As for Podolski, well Bobby Downes would know having starred for Rochdale as a player.
Stuart Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I'm off to grab a tissue. Well that's overexcitement for you!
Gav Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Roy Keane was a few minutes from signing and Fergie hijacked the deal!! He shook hands on the deal, but the contract was in the safe and the reception had shut for the weekend. Fergie spoke to Keane over the weekend and managed to change his mind.........
The Gull Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 tony gales mic Brad was awesome and your right Given would never have stayed as a number two. Would I swap Brad for Given, no chance, Brad was better. Given left as he was number 2 to flowers not brad. We then signed filan who took over from flowers before brad came along. We robbed given from Celtic, loaned him out to Sunderland before he had around 1 season as our number 2 and then Newcastle came knocking. Sorry this is off topic but had to correct some comments.
herbergeehh Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 As much as I enjoy reading some of these posts, this is the transfer topic... David Bentley would delight me, personally I think would be the best right midfielder in the league at the moment if he played like he did for us. There's a lot of things working against us in a deal like that though, one being David Bentley. A creative midfielder is what it's all about.
Gav Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 David Bentley would delight me, More chance of platting sawdust. Bentley would never come back to Ewood, just won’t happen.
dinglebasher Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 ---------------Tim Flowers----------------- Berg-------Hendry---Sutton-----Le Saux ------------Sherwood---Keane------------- -------Dugarry--Baggio--Zidane--------- ------------------Shearer------------------ Bench Given Gale Ripley Wilcox Big Fat Sam I'm off to grab a tissue. EDIT: didn't the Keane thing happen while Kenny was sleeping?? Fergie even doing berbatov's back in the day, wily old Jock. Never mind all this, let's look at those we wanted to sign but who are garbage: Segundo Castillo Robbie Blake Jason Koumas Kevin Davies Rob Earnshaw Willy Gueret Kevin Davies Could always be worse.
herbergeehh Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 One can dream. You're probably right.. But we need that kind of player, someone who can make things happen. Who am I kidding, we need more than one.

Don’t get me wrong I agree with you, he’d be great in midfield and over time could become a legend like Tugay, but he thinks he’s better than he is, and Blackburn Rovers isn’t a big enough stage for him.
dinglebasher Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 So bad you named him twice? I can't get it out of my mind how bad he was / is / will be.
