Any of those currently unemployed bosses (and there are others) would attract players, enhance our reputation and (dare I say it) inspire more entertainment on the pitch.

Since the inception of the Premier League we've been a small town club which thought big.

That's what seems to have changed.

Is this for real even if Big Sam went and we attracted 1 of these managers we'd still be in the same financial position so how would we attract the players that you want. At the end of the day if Warnock goes which appears likely Sam will bring in suitable replacements which might not be household names that we all crave but will still do a job for BRFC. Keep the faith!!

How would we attract managers of that stature? They want big bucks to spend.

They will also want a job.

Also what premier league management experience have they got???

Between them those managers have won countless trophies, and been in charge at Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Juventus, Holland...

But they didn't win Division Three with Notts County in 1998, so we'd better steer clear.

It's FAR from "all for one and one for all" with Allardyce in charge - he's far too divisive a personality, and (like it or not) not everyone is prepared to swallow the "football" he puts on offer at Ewood.

Matter of time.

Sell high, buy cheap!!

That is the general rule of business. Would people rather we did things the other way round?

I'm not sure why we would be putting all our efforts into getting in 2 defenders, it makes no sense when 1 CB and a creative midfielder would make us much more balanced and a bigger thread.

So we sell Warnock to bring in all likelihood an inferior, cheap left back and to bring in a cheap CB and that's it? Yeah sounds like a great deal to me...

What about keeping Warnock, if Nelsen is out for a while Givet is going to play at centre back. Zurab is a good enough replacement at centre back, if not then sell Zurab to fund the cheap CB. Warnock just doesn't sound like the type of player to sulk, especially if he has ambitions to play for England.

Sometimes its better to keep the player if the options from his sale are utter crap and just make us weaker.

Not sure anything would make this a bigger thread.

I shudder to think what will happen if, Benni, Diouf, Salgado and Barton dont agree about something. I like it, we will be a mean blue wrecking machine

i dunno, but if Salgado is involved then something is getting pregnant... possibly barton

If Benni and Warnock leaves between now and 01.09, Big Sam will have some job maintaining the little quality we have left. With Kalinic adjusting, Di Santo injured and Roberts erratic in front of goal - we really have very little to offer up front if Benni leaves. I still think he's our best striker, and I'm disappointed every time he's dropped from the starting XI.

This transfer window has taken a turn for the worse, after a fairly decent start. (Di Santo, Santa Cruz)

"No 11 o'clocker...mental busy with day job...but a small update."

Interesting how Alan said there was no 11 o'clocker. But felt it worthy to add a article about us on the Mirror site http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Black...icle129383.html

Oh and the article about Gregory Cerdan http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...k.html?ITO=1490

Oh and one to make people smile. Cristiano Ronaldo had a helping hand in getting Salgado to come http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...p;ATTR=Football

I am wondering, if we there is a possibility we could play with a sweeper system??

any thoughts??

I wish Majiball was here, I know him and he is a quality lad, good coach too!

The Sweeper system is redundant now in the premiership....due to the speed and quality of the premiership strikers.

If you play with a sweeper you are risking the "sweeper" getting isolated 1 on 1! ie Nelsen vs Anelka! ;)

But you re denying the player the 'grass' he needs to use his pace, just a thought!!

and itworks well on the continent!

Playing a sweeper forces the defence further and further back so players who like to play off the last man, Torres Owen Anelka etc

will "sit" on the sweeper and use their pace! In Italy-Spain the game is alot slower so this style will suit a few teams as you said before!

Cerdan? No thanks. The guy is an average defender. Doesn't have the skill set for the premier league, nor is he physically dominant. Fulham can have him, but I suspect he'll either get a payday with us or finish his career at Le Mans. My advice to any premiership manager is if a player has had a lot of exposure in Ligue 1 or 2 and hasn't been snapped up by one of the bigger or more fashionable clubs then he probably isn't worth looking at.

Fife... try as you might but I'm afraid that the roll of drama queen does not suit you.

I must agree with you there Theno. You as always are 100% right in every word you ever post and you dont hesitate to actually point this out to all us mere mortals. Sorry if I have inadvertantly stolen a little piece of your thunder and trepassed on your exclusive right to be the only one who ever thinks things through and is always unquestionably right. I should have known that there is only room for one drama queen on this site.

It was meant to be a positive comment because I knew as soon as nicko said what he did the message board would go into meltdown which it did seem too.

The way it's worded it doesn't look like it, sorry.

It's what we have to do to survive though, buy players cheap and then sell them on for a huge profit and watch their careers stall in most cases because Rovers make them into the player that they are, the players don't make the club! Out of the recent ones who has gone on and improved? Bentley? Santa Cruz? (Well too early to say obviously but surprise surprise he's still injured, Friedel? (Bit harsh because of his age but he certainly hasn't improved.) Bellamy? (He hasn't had a season like the one he had with us since he went, Duff I wouldn't say improved but was probably one of the few that showed he deserved to be at that level and was a very important part of the Chelsea title winning team.

Who's to say the cheap replacements, if they do in deed turn out to be cheap, won't turn out to be good buys and be worth a lot more in the future as well.

It doesn't look like our midfield problem will be looked at until the end of the season when we decided whether or not to renew the likes or Reid and Dunn's contract which is a shame because it seems glaringly obvious to most that that is our weakest position right now.

I think were after 2 defenders because Nelsen will be out for at least a month if not longer, Sam obviously doesn't rate Zurab I guess as he doesn't even seem to get on the bench.

After last season's flirt with relegation we are not in a position to take risks at the moment, the financial security of the club always has to be the biggest priority, without that we might not have a club to support in the future. If we can't attract a buyer now what chance would we have if we were deep in debt?

Players come and go but Rovers will be here forever (Hopefully ;))

Just to add................Garrido from City has been earmarked as a replacement for Warnock IF Aston Villa offer what Sam wants!

Sorry to break off from this enthralling discussion but I was wondering if the poster of the quote above could state his source.

I remember reading it and dug it up because with City having signed Sylvinho to cover Bridge it could now be more relevant.

Interesting...indeed.

Not sure why there is such wailing going on just now.

Big Sam was only telling it as he sees it. He is obviously a bit peeved just now, but what he said was also the truth. Rovers ARE a selling club because you need to sell to pay the big wages you pay...no harm in saying that or running the club that way either.

I have to say using the phrase 'small time club' was a bit regrettable.

On the targets...of course a left back is a must when Warnock goes...and a centre half because Nelsen is obviously toiling with injuries.

If there is any money left after that hopefully there will be a midfielder...maybe you will get lucky and sell Benni too.

This window is far from over.

Don't despair.
