If we can keep them fit then there's no need to buy another midfielder.

I think this is the crucial part of Sam's current mindset and also no doubt that JW and the board will be constantly reminding Sam about the dirth of midfielders we actually do have in the team presently...

Oh and cheers Nicko for the reply.

We don't want him stinking up the place for too long. I don't like the way villa are going about this, they've got a similar (worse?) approch than man City. How long has the speculation been going on for now? They're hoping that we'll cave in in order to get rid of a problem player.

I think Marting O'Neill (I refuse to call him MON), needs a right hard kick in the Christmas crackers.

I must agree with you there Theno. You as always are 100% right in every word you ever post and you dont hesitate to actually point this out to all us mere mortals. Sorry if I have inadvertantly stolen a little piece of your thunder and trepassed on your exclusive right to be the only one who ever thinks things through and is always unquestionably right. I should have known that there is only room for one drama queen on this site.

No need to be sarky Fife. A bit of accurate and well intentioned constructive criticism never hurt anybody. ;)

A fit (I know its a BIG ASK) Dunn, Reid, Bert Mk II, Grella, N'Zonzi would be an excellent midfield. Sam works with the players on a daily basis and maybe he feels that the fitness issues have been sorted and all of them will play a number of games.

If we can keep them fit then there's no need to buy another midfielder.

Cmon Ricky, we already know we can't keep them fit. To go in to the new season basing our hopes on that would be suicidal.

People need to be realistic. We are running at 85% of our money on wages

We have a midfield of - Reid, Dunn, Emerton, Grella, Hoilett, Diouf, Gamst, Andrews, NZonzi, Doran, Van Herden. (Thats 11 players, of which at least 6 will be on £30k a week +)

There simply isnt room for another one in there without selling and shifting the balance of the squad.

Emerton will be a massive boost! Huge!

Not sure why there is such wailing going on just now.

Big Sam was only telling it as he sees it. He is obviously a bit peeved just now, but what he said was also the truth. Rovers ARE a selling club because you need to sell to pay the big wages you pay...no harm in saying that or running the club that way either.

Exactly. As my old mother used to say, 'tell the truth and shame the devil!'

Salgado is NOT a central defender, I can barely think of a less suited type of player in the centre. From the two matches played, Jacobsen doesn't look like one either - and not Emerton. More likely to see one or two of them in midfield, with a new centre back coming in. Now watch Salgado or Jacobsen fit into the central defender role like a glove..

I agree with Ricky, there's enough bodies in midfield to make a decent one - if fit. But Reid hasn't played for about four years, Dunn will play 50% of the matches, and Grella seems to fit into the same category. I'm sick of reading about our players saying "I've been doing a lot of extra work now, and I'm confident I'll have a much better season" - and then the next friggin' WEAK either do a Gamst Pedersen (not perform) or a Grella, Dunn (left out because of a niggling injury) or a Reid (break a leg). Cruel? Maybe. But my GOD how long have we been playing this game now. Selling Warnock and replacing him with a left back or a central defender means 1) Sam thinks the midfielders will keep fit or 2) Sam can't find anyone worth buying in this crazy market.

Getting Skippy back will be good though, to push Diouf or go inside alongside N'Zonzi. He's more important than ever in my opinion..

What are you talking about? I was saying Villa are a bunch of tossers for bidding 4.5 million for Warnock.

I know what you meant Bryan I was switching it around stating that the dingles

are tossers! That's why I added the smiley!

After years of listening to people berate gamsts corners it was interesting to note the villa goal came from a shorey corner last night.

It's not worked out for him at villa But he would be my first choice if the price was right.

not sure if many saw gamst/dioufs corners against Sunderland, but 90% of the time they were VERY dangerous!

anywhom, despite adequate cover in the centre of midfield, i feel we are still lacking a player who can string everything together and make things happen. My ideal player would be a Modric type, brilliant player who makes things happen with an eye for goal; Dunn, Emerton and N'Zonzi are the 3 who should be considered for a start as they are all good technically, that is with the assumption that Dunn doesnt get injured (work's cut out there then), Grella, Andrews and Reid are mere squad players who contribute nothing much more than effort.

I have to say using the phrase 'small time club' was a bit regrettable.

Do you think that may have damaged his reputation with the board somewhat?

I still maintain I'd stipulate it as part of a contract that he had to keep the press stuff as positive as possible, bit like an employment reference....

Smacks of toys and prams to me....

I don't think anybody actually hates Keith Andrews. I certainly don't.... I just hate seeing him on the teamsheet. ;)

Instead of Arte Et Labore our fans should have the motto Arte Et Desperandum!

Any news on the injuries at all Nicko (Di Santo, Nelsen, etc etc) and do you possibly think the writing really is on the wall for Warnock bearing in mind the injury to Nelsen, could Sam not be stalling now in a vain hope he stays?

or ... Nil Illegitima Et Carborundum ... Don't Let The B's Grind You Down ...

Fair enough if we don't bring in a CM. Don't agree with it having been crying out for almost 3 seasons that we need to invest in that area but what can you do.

At the end of the day we will get what we ultimately deserve, if we end up seriously struggling or worse relegated as our injury prone midfielders carry on getting injuries then so be it. If that happens then the board and manager will have to answer serious questions.

So keep your fingers crossed lads that Dunny, Reidy and Grella keep injury free otherwise we are in trouble.

Sam is just Sam...he comes away with some strong statements at times...all part of the animal...rather that than someone who kids you on.

Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce will target £2million-rated Le Mans defender Gregory Cerdan once he sells Stephen Warnock to Aston Villa.

Allardyce faces competition from Fulham for centre back Cerdan with Roy Hodgson viewing the defender as a perfect replacement for Brede Hangeland.

Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy is an Ajax target.

From the Mail

And that's what happens when you let everyone know you are a selling club - plus the price you sell players for comes down.

Sam is disappointed and to be honest I dont see the problem with him saying we are a selling club. Its a message that has to sink into the board. Sam isnt the kind of guy who sits down to get slapped. He is the only voice the fans have, because you can be sure he isnt happy having a price on the head of his players. If it was up to him he would be keeping Warnock. He has spoken the truth.
