I thought I was the Tom he was on about at first as well

I've always rated Chimbonda so I'd be happy with that if we could bring in a midfielder as well

Strange one Chimbonda, not sure about his attitude, plus he is obviously not a left back.

Moved around clubs a bit, looks good some games and damn awful in others. Wages will be high too.

Looks like a panic buy to me.

WARNOCK...the fee is going to have to be very close to £8 million.

I am told Sam has laid down the law on a signing...he wants the man [Chimbonda] in before Warnock goes.

In an ideal world you would have these defenders:

Salgado/Jacobsen/Samba/Nelsen/Chimbonda and Givet to pick from.

Given that Nelsen gets injured and Givet can play two roles that would strike me as strong options.

I overlook Zurab but he can cover if he is still here and young Olsson is probably not up to it yet.

There is also a specialist left back on the horizon, but I don't think they have decided which one yet...

For 1.5m it's not a bad price, can play all across the back four which is handy but right back has always been his strongest position, still as cover for left back and center back we won't get much better at that sort of price, everyone was raving about what a find he was when he was at Wigan so could be a good player again for us.

Leaves us a bit more money to look at other targets if Sam is interested, Reid's injury could even be the urge he needs to not gamble on the fitness of some our midfielders who haven't played a lot of football in the last 12 months.

Why does Chimbonda always get criticised for his attitude out of interest? Is it cause he wanted to go to Spurs for a payrise?

Still no word on a midfielder?

Chimbonda- Not a fan. Terrible attitude, terrible player and i guess would come on big wages.

His best position is as a right back but we already have Jacobsen, Emerton and now Salgado who can play there.

Mixed transfer spending by Sam for me this window, brought in some decent signings but has brought in some players that shouldn't be a priority area. He has my backing but i think some of his transfer dealings have been really questionable and the spending at Newcastle clearly wasn't a fluke.

Surely with having Salgado, Jacobsen AND Chimbonda, who are all naturally right backs - Big Sam must be planning to use one of them elsewhere. I know it get's mentioned a lot but I feel that one of the players must be earmarked as a candidate for central midfield. If not, then for a selling club that can't afford too many players, paying high wages (which I assume they will be for 2 free signings and Chimbonda) for 3 right backs, while we also have Emerton, Reid and Andrews who could do a job there, well it sounds ludicrous.

Chimbonda for £1.5m will do a job for us - third choice centre half or full back. Used to be a very handy right back, a position we're suddenly looking strongest in after some years of struggling.

When he first played for Wigan he was as good a right back as there was in the Premier league, decent at centre half as well. Then it all went to his head and his form went to pot. Never quite been the same since. I bet Jaccobson's scratching his head right know.

We've got Chimbonda, Andrews, Reid, Jaccobson, Emerton, Salgado all with recent experience at right back. That's not counting Zurab and Nelsen who've played there in the past.

Never met the bloke. He gets this reputation from the same press that we think lambasts us at every opportunity ( no offence Nicko) yet we're quick to take them at their word on other issues. I thought Sav had a terrible attitude before he came but proved me wrong. Time will tell.
