Never met the bloke. He gets this reputation from the same press that we think lambasts us at every opportunity ( no offence Nicko) yet we're quick to take them at their word on other issues. I thought Sav had a terrible attitude before he came but proved me wrong. Time will tell.

His attitude is questionable, depends on what you read but most news articles seem to point to a massive ego.

I'm more opposed to the signing because it seems a pointless one that's going to take up big wages. He's a very mediocre left back and centre back from what i've seen (Zurab is a better CB) and as a right back he isn't that fantastic.

If Sam is looking to bring in a squad player, a player thats could play left back or centre back when players are injured or suspended i'd rather he looked at someone younger or perhaps an unknown. Less wages on our already over stretched budget, Chimbonda i reckon will probably be not far off Warnock's total wage.

I just don't get Sam and his spending this window. He comes out with comments like "we are weak defenisvely" and that its a priority area when bringing in Salgado. i'm sorry but we aren't that weak defensively.

The mystery defender is Pascal Chimbonda.

One or two worked that out a bit too fast.

I believe the price is £1.5 million which is reasonable.

He can play anywhere across the back. He is not a bad lad for all of the headlines that have followed him at times.

He should be up tomorrow, but I have just heard - and this isn't even in the paper - that Portsmouth are trying to take him as part of a possible David James swap.

However the very latest is that he should still be on his way...and that will mean Warnock goes.

Hi Nicko.

I might be one of the one or two you refer to since I did post on it. No mystery from my end, I took it from this article which was about an hour before your original post.

Chimbonda- Not a fan. Terrible attitude, terrible player and i guess would come on big wages.

His best position is as a right back but we already have Jacobsen, Emerton and now Salgado who can play there.

Mixed transfer spending by Sam for me this window, brought in some decent signings but has brought in some players that shouldn't be a priority area. He has my backing but i think some of his transfer dealings have been really questionable and the spending at Newcastle clearly wasn't a fluke.

I seriously doubt Emerton's going to play RB when he gets back. It'd be a waste of resources.

I'm so disapointed that Warnock's off. He was one of few quality players we had left and I feel that we will really miss him :(

I feel the same and to replace him with chimbonda is just depessing. It's funny to think that how optimistic I felt about this season just 2 weeks ago.

It's not depressing me, don't forget it would also leave around 6.5M to get in a midfielder

What. Is wrong with you? Scouser lets you down (quelle surprise as they say in Marseille). Which is where Sir Gael Givet hails from. Who in the tiltyard by far a more chivalrous knight than the Loser Scouser. And we have £8m . And..let me tell you having held an clove studded orange to my nose for the visit to Gillingham tonight, the future is bright. N Zoni is in the zone and Hoillet does not rhyme with toilet.

We will be more than OK. Have faith. And get on your knees now and turn towards Rome and thank the Holy Father you are not a) Scouse or b)From bluddy Gillingham.

would it not be

RB

Salgado

Jacobsen

CB

Nelsen

Samba

Chimbonda

LB

Givet

New Signing

Summed up well. Considering The Kiwi is injured Chimbonda is an excellent replacement and depending on who we sign at left back, we are much stronger defensively then we were last season.

It could also be another tactic from Sam. he has players he wants rid, so as to replace them. Or even a reminder that Rovers are a small club on the market - a kind of plea for help.

I think you are right on the mark with this.

Playing pigeon for sure. Anyone who thinks he makes comments like these knowing full well how upset it is going to make fans without having a back up plan is crazy.

The body language, the sighs, the woe is me story, it was (Please don't use that word again)ing brilliant!

If we sign Chimbonda, then why buy another left back too, instead of pumping the cash into midfield?

I am having a feeling that we are getting heavy all over. In fact our squad is much bigger than before the summer, and I would argue that the wage bill is as much if not more than before the summer, so those arguments about curbing wages should go out of the window.

Chimbonda, would have been a good signing pre Salgado, as others have pointed out, why bring in a rightfooted defender? If he comes, I think it only adds weight to the possibility of Salgado playing some kind of midfield role. Personally think that Givet is a better and more reliable CB than Nelsen these days, although based on the first couple of games and Samba'a odd error, it's a shame that we can't (due to Nelsen's injury) try a pairing of Givet/Nelsen for stability.

Looking at this 4-2-1-3 formation which seems similar to his preferred line up at Bolton, there are now a lot of question marks as to where players will fit in. Surely Andrews won't remain entrenched in the midfield? Foir me Nzonzi has shown enough so far to earn a place as a defensive mid, take your pick from Salgado, Grella, Emerton, Andrews as a partner.

Dunn/Andrews are the only real candidates for the '1' role - Dunn is clearly suited to this but won't stay fit.

It's then a forward + 2 wingers/attackers making up the numbers. Clearly 3 out of Di Santo, Mccarthy, Kalinic and Roberts won't start. Hoillet may get a chance in the Diouf role. Personally don't think Diouf offers enough, but the options are either Emerton or Hoillet (can't see Van Heerden being good enough)

One thing we must not do in this transfer window is let Benni go - unless Kalinic gets a couple on Saturday to boost his confidence, as it stands, not too sure where the goals will come from.

Waffled on a bit here - so back on topic - still think we need an attacking midfielder. I also think that Sam is still looking for players to play the right and left positions of the front 3, hence the amount of trialists in those positions... starting to make sense now.

07.31 Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has reiterated that forward Tuncay continues to attract interest from clubs in England and abroad, but the Turkey international is no closer to leaving the Riverside.

Are we among them?

Surely a cheeky bid and and "tap-up" through the media will give us Tuncay for a lower price than his market value.

Unless Sam sees Givet as being our left back and Chimbonda is being bought in to provide cover at centre back and left back if needs be, I don't see the point of this signing. If we had bought him in as our right back instead of Jacobsen, I would have been happy enough. In reality we should be looking for a natural left back to replace Warnock if he leaves, not a right back who can do a job out there if needs be.
