Slightly off topic I know Nicko but..

I've just seen Franny Jeffers on Sky Sports regarding his sending off. He was basically apologising and did actually sound quite sincere about how sorry he was and that he's been in the game long enough to not get involved in such things. Was this apology off his own back or was he put up to do this?

Just thinking that you would never see someone like Gerrard apologise live on TV.

THOUGHT YOU MIGHT WANT TO READ THIS...AN ANONYMOUS F***WIT365.COM **** WRITES IN THEIR NEWSPAPER REVIEW:

SHOCKING

If Sam Allardyce brought Pascal Chimbonda it would shock exactly nobody.

Still, that doesn't stop our old pal Alan Nixon writing in The Daily Mirror: 'Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is making a shock £1.5 million swoop for Tottenham's unhappy Pascal Chimbonda.'

Arse of a manager moves for arse of a player for arse of a football club.

Shocking.

Getting a bit worried about a meeting between Portsmouth and Spurs last night re that possible Chimbonda-James swap. Find out more later.

Got to say I don't share that opinion. Chimbonda goes to Pompey and Warnock stays unless we find a suitable replacement. Chimbonda is a good right back, a half-decent central defender, and an emergency left back. I say look elsewhere for a specialist LB, we have enough RB's and Zurab can fill in or Gunning can be recalled. Then splash our remaining wealth on a top midfielder who hasn't been injured for a few years.

How this guy has a job writing this is beyond me, i cant help but think that chimbonda would be a good signing, a versatile prem proven defender who was once very good just needs a bit of man management too which sam excels, 1.5 mill is a snip and would be good business.

Got a feeling neither will address our crap midfield, nor our lack of a real LB if Warnock goes.

Surely, surely, surely there's enough cash left after the Warnock sale to bring in some midfield quality, especially if Nicko's right and these two are cheap options?

Sam has got all of the Warnock money to spend hasn't he Nicko?

Both the positions you mention, Billy C, are covered. At least numbers wise, with Givet, Chimbonda, Olsson capable of playing left back (if we're signing a LB specialist, it should be a starter), and in midfield we've got plenty of bodies - though the best ones are recovering from injuries (Dunn, Emerton, Reid) and the ones available are either young or just not starting XI material (N'Zonzi, Andrews).

If a midfielder is brought in, surely someone needs to go?? Nicko, do you have a take on this, seeing as you've mentioned that a midfielder MIGHT become a possibility if the money's there.

8m Warnock - 1,5m Chimbonda (same wages?) plus a defender in the same price range 1m+ and wages (25k=1,3m) and mathematically we should be able to spend another 4m including wages. Not much, but enough to bring in a solid midfielder?

Chimbonda is a good centreback. I really like him there. He is also good at right back. So if he is cover for Nelsen thats great. However we will still need to sign a left back.

Re: Midfield. After last night I am not quite so worried. Our choices in the middle stand as NZonzi, Andrews, Dunn, Grella, Reid, Emerton, and, maybe (i guess it is likely as we will have so many right backs) Salgado.

Dunn and Grella impressed with a bit of creativity. Nzonzi is very capable as a destroyer. Reid I don't know (and injured again), but Emerton I am reasonably sure will give us something in the centre. Andrews does a job. Between them we should be decent enough.

One thing needs to be made clear - we should have 8 million burning a hole in Sam's pocket, and our entire focus in the run up to January should be trying to find a young, excellent techinically, creative, strong, box to box player who we can bring through alongside NZonzi. If we can find one it will make us a very strong outfit.

This really is the most annoying window ever.

As an example, in the last hour I have found three players who are all talking to more than one club...with managers changing their minds, players clowning around and agents not helping.

Joke.
