Would be happy with Taylor, although it would ruin peoples arguments about Sam selling English talent and replacing them with ageing foreign mercinaries, some on here wont be happy.

I watched Sol Bamba throughout his time at Dunfermline in the SPL, and he was good enough once he settled in. But that was all; I certainly would not think he is good enough for the Rovers. He looks and plays like Samba, but he is not as quick as Samba nor as good in the tackle. In fact he is very prone to giving penalties away with rash tackling. I would say he would probably be a decent Championship player, but no more than that.

Can't argue with that, only seen him the once at Ewood.

So it looks like we're using this transfer window to bring in 3 right-backs (Chimbonda, Salgado, Jacobsen), 2 left-backs (Givet, Taylor) and just the one central midfielder (N'Zonzi). Not quite what anyone had in mind. Presumably full-backs are on cheaper wages than midfielders! Either that, or it looks like Salgado and Emerton will be destined for midfield this season.

Ajax have an interest, but that is a hard one to arrange...they wouldn't want to pay a big fee, Rovers would want good money and he is on big wages.

It really comes down to how badly out-of-favour he is with Sam. If he is not going to play you might as well get rid...

I don't think Ajax have signed anyone yet, so the door seems to be open.

It'd be a bit a gamble at the moment Nicko, The Chelsea loan Kid is - A) injured, B) Might not make the grade. The other Kid is looking a bit raw at the moment. If we sell McCarthy that leaves us with Roberts and two unproven kids. I don't want to repeat the Samba experiment too soon either.

Under normal circumstances I'd say yes but no now, maybe if Ajax are still interested in January.

Givet is going to be vital at centre back as Nelsen will inevitably miss a lot of games, and Chimbonda can play anywhere across the back four - again this could prove vital. Jacobsen and Taylor (or whoever else it may be) add good depth the squad.

Salgado is the one that doesn't seem to fit at the moment. If he can play in central midfield then everything would seem to make sense, if not then it all looks a bit puzzling at the moment. One thing is certain though; Sam will have a plan, he pays great attention to detail. It'll be interesting to see what his idea is for the players we have.

If you sign Chimbonda, Givet, N'Zonzi, Kalinic and possibly Taylor in the window - plus Hoilett's full-time wages and Di Santo's loan - it is a fair amount of dough.

And also a fair amount of progress.

An extra midfielder would make it a very good window indeed.

Anyway, got to go, got an early date with the Messiah in the morning.

You are right of course. I was going to add that the cash burn at Rovers is amazing and I do understand that you can't just go on spending for ever but you have to put as much pressure on the trustees as possible. We have had a lot of money in during the summer and I am more interested in the Rovers coffers than the trust fund. The more we can get out of them now the better. We won't get the season ticket money again this season and we need to strike whilst the iron is hot.

This could well be the answer. Salgado playing the holding and passing role, while Bert does the attacking from the centre midfield role. I am sure that Salgado in his time at Real has learnt a whole lot about how to distribute the ball after winning it in a tackle, and if he brings Bert or either wing player into play, he will be doing a good job. Also if Bert still has his pace and energy he can easily do the link role to the strikers or wingers. Could work well; certainly worth a try.

Speculation - no evidence. Oh - I suppose you mean he likes looking at the Gool Ol' Opta stats...

People often complain that the general perception of Allardyce's unwatchable football is a myth created by the media - but it seems to me the media have been more responsible for building him up as some kind of cheeky, wheeling-and-dealing, "Del Boy"-wannabe geezer. That's not the person I see in interviews.

I'm going to start putting "Big" in front of my name to see if it garners the same completely unwarranted respect.

Or maybe Emmo will go back to the right wing. Diouf isn't really breaking any pots is he?

I agree our transfer policy does not really make sense this season. What i think is happening is that Sam is aware that midfield needs strengthening but the right midfield players are not available and players in other low priority positions are available

It's just like if you're going to buy a pair of jeans but you can't find a decent one either because of style or price and you see a nice shirt on sale, would you get the shirt? I think that's what happen with Salgado, Kalinic etc.

In all fairness to Sam, you can clearly see what he is doing. A tight back 4 or 5, will allow us to pick up points. We have created many chances, and if our strikers had taken those chances, then we could easily have had 6 points from 2 games. Well at the very least 4 from 2 games. The problem in midfield based on the 1st 2 games, doesnt look that bad. The fact that we only scored 1 goal(through a defender) is of more concern. Also we have shipped 4 goals in 2, and with Nelsen injured and Warnock off its a sensible move by Sam. Emerton is not fully fit, and it looks very much like Sam wants Salgado in midfield. The big question will be, when Grella, Dunn, Reid, Emerton and Nelsen return who will play and who will be causing problems due to lack of game time. Chimbonda will still think he can have one last chance to make the French squad, and if he doesnt play there might be trouble. For me if Taylor signs, then i dont see the point in Olssen and Jacobsen being part of the squad. Olssen should be sent on loan for a couple of seasons, and i think Jacobsen might leave in January. As people have said, Sams signings have been strange, but we shall see what happens

On a brighter note...

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp sold Pascal Chimbonda to Blackburn Rovers while in transit on way to Doncaster last night!

After their Carling Cup win at Rovers, Redknapp was asked why he named only six substitutes last night.

He replied: "We sold one of them on the way up here."

I've heard good things about Taylor, did Adam Johnson sign a new contract in the end, wouldn't mind a double deal

with him as well.

I like Johnson too, perhaps we could swap olsson for him?

Hibs would sell. I know that for a fact.

Does that mean Owen made a call???

Anyway, got to go, got an early date with the Messiah in the morning.

Pass our best wishes onto Sam for us will you. ;)

i wonder where this leaves olsson , effectively what we have done is NOT replace warnock , but in fact replaced olsson

as nicko said , someone cheap who is willing to be a reserve

I never thought I would every say this, but we're close to having an "embarrassment of riches" situation at the back.

Right back:

Jacobsen - Jury's still out, but looks like a decent enough squad player

Chimbonda - I'm a fan of his, and I hope and think that he can rekindle his career here after quite unsuccessful spells at Spurs and Sunderland

Salgado - 33, but according to Real Madrid fans, still has the pace and hunger. Also the best player in the world ever

Emerton - Did a good job at right back a while ago.

Centre back:

Givet - Amazing player. I am almost willing to claim that Nelsen's injury is a blessing in disguise, considering how excellent Gael has been for us

Samba - One of the first names on the team sheet as far as I'm concerned

Nelsen - Haven't been in top form after his injuries, but is still a very good centre back

Zurab - The forgotten man, but can still do a job

Chimbonda can also play centre back

Left back:

Givet - I think he's even better at CB, but by all means a great left back

Taylor - I'm hoping we can sign him. Looks very promising, and might even go on to become a better player than Warnock

Olsson - Not really a fan, but provides cover in case of an injury crisis

Chimbonda is also able to play left back

Potential lineups at the back:

Chimbonda - Samba - Givet - Taylor

Chimbonda - Nelsen - Samba - Givet

Salgado - Nelsen - Samba - Givet

Jacobsen - Samba - Givet - Chimbonda

etc.

All of these lineups are very strong in my book. Who do we leave out?

I think

Chimbonda-Samba-Givet-Taylor

Would be the strongest. Very balanced and I think Givet is far better than Nelsen.

Wonder if we could hijack the loan deal for janko, would be he perfect extra striker. Looks like sam has been looking at options for the 5th man up front, he'd be perfect and give us the target man we are missing.

Beginning to think upfront may be more of a concern than midfield. Sam has clearly been looking for a further striker considering Vieri/Ellington were on trial. Given Di Santo's injury (and still unproven) and Kalinic hasn't hit the ground running (though I'm sure he will at some stage) we're still looking at Roberts & MCcarthy. This guy on loan seems a cracking shout - as in fairness does the Geovanni kid from Spurs.

I watched Arsenal last night, their movement and passing was wonderful to watch, however consider this,

Wenger has been a t Arsenal many years and has developed a style of football better than any other club in the EPL, they are quite a young side too with the odd bits of experience thrown in, but it has taken a fair amount of time to build the squad and to play that way and in the early days a fair amount of money too!!

We cant do that at Rovers, we cant afford top players on top wages, so we go with what we can get and hope we can unearth a gem somewhere along the line!!

As Parsons I think said yesterday, only the manager knows what he wants with regard to players and how they fit into his system of play, some signings have puzzled me from time to time but I will say this, there is a belief in football that you build from the back, from there on, keep things tight there and prevent opponents from scoring and there will always be opportunities for us to score, which we have already seen, then we can kick on from there!!

There is definately a French connection at the club now, Chimbonda, Samba, Givet, Nzonzi and for me, French players are nearly always good technically (Samba whilst a Cong int is really a french speaking lad)

Taylor would be a good buy for us and a bit of re sale value too, I would use Olssen as an impact player late in a game, pace when the opposition is tiring can be a great asset and both he and Hoillet I feel will be used in that way this season!!
