RibbleValleyRover Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Might be just me but if Chimbonda comes in and that's our business done then i'll be disappointed. Made it clear i am not a Chimbonda fan but if Sam wants him then what can you do, not sure he is a good enough replacement for Warnock though at left back. Chimbonda is mainly a right back who fills in at centre back played a few times at left back and looked far from comfortable (not surprising he is right footed). Warnock Out- Chimbonda in £7-8 million in- £1.5-2 million out Sorry sounds like a crap deal unless we bring in a left back and central midfielder. No point saving the cash for January if it won't be there when Sam asks for it.

Sparky Marky Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Bolton looking at loaning Nolan back.....would he be any good for us...I bet Rovers would be a much more attractive option for him....
novella Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 To be fair this transfer window has had loads of twists and turns and there are still around 5 days left. We could still strengthen after today. Just wait and see.
modes98 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 "My aim" is to hold our club's management to account for decisions which will only take the club backwards! You CANNOT sell someone for £7m, replace them with a £1.5m journeyman and expect the squad to be anything but WEAKER. That is fine. Go E-mail the club or stand out side Ewood with a banner, just don't keep ranting on here every 5 minutes because we haven't signed Messi. Believe it or not we have sold players for high amounts in the past and replaced them with cheaper players who have done better. Anyway please stop dragging the debate off topic. Transfer Topic, so transfer related posts please. If you want to moan go elsewhere to do it.
Guest charlie1 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 THAT'S THE SPIRIT!!! Christ you sound like Allardyce himself It's the truth you ######.
spencey7 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Your aim is to be an annoying little ---- (insert what you want here) who people do not like. Every post you do is negative and aimed at causing depression. Are you on anti-depressants or something? I would seriously question your support for Rovers, personally I think your a wind up merchant that doesnt even support Rovers. Iv never heard such a negative 'supporter'. FFS Get a grip of yourself! I'm not aiming to do anything other than identify the GLARING PROBLEMS that will see us relegated! I'm not trying to cause any depression - I apologise if I am - but ignoring all this WON'T MAKE IT GO AWAY. If Allardyce planned on doing ANYTHING to address the real issues in this squad he would have done so by now. From all recent media appearances he seems on the brink of suicide and accepting of our inevitable fate - how can we expect to survive in the Premier League with this attitude?!? We need someone to talk up the squad, extol the virtues of all that is great with our club, to aim high and to "have a go" - even against the top teams. I dread to think what it will be like bearing witness to three total capitulations in a month come October (vs Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd). Maybe the player he wants isnt available? If that's the case, then he's got to SAY SO. You've got to give the fans some kind of information, or of course they're going to question where the massive Warnock profit has gone. APOLOGIES MODS - I was still typing this when modes98 posted above. I'll divert my endeavours to open some eyes to another thread.
RoyRover Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 To be fair Spencey does have a point here if it is just to be Warnock in and Chimbonda out with no other arrivals. Granted we're spending a fair amount on wages (IMO the squad needs trimming) but you can't keep selling players for huge amounts and replacing them with a 1/4 of that amount. We've been doing it for years but in the end it will catch up with us. What's the point in selling Warnock for £7-£8 million if Sam doesn't get to spend the whole amount? If he could bring in a midfielder as well as Chimbonda then I'd be all for it, but it's looking unlikely. Exactly. Why sell the player, if the club don't give him the funds for better players. If we only replace Warnock with Chimbonda, then we haven't strengthened at all. As I said a few weeks back, something seems to have changed over the summer with Rovers and they seem to be more desperate to cash in on any of big assets. If Sam doesn't get the money, then where will the £6 million go? It could go toward running the club, but when you consider that we've made about £28 million in transfers this summer and Sam only spending £10 million of it, it makes you wonder where it all goes and what would happen if we hadn't sold these players in terms of our finances.
The Prof. Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Just bought a mate and his kid tickets for the next 3 games. He's a Spurs supporter but can't afford to take junior to a footy match, and didn't believe me when I told him it was £40 for the two of them for THREE games. He would pay £40 for 1 game for himself. Even though he has the tickets in his hand he still doesn't believe it! A full Ewood at those prices doesn't leave much change for new players. On the whole - you can't have your cake and eat it. Remember Mu get £1.3m a gate - I bet we don't clear that a season.
G Somerset Rover Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Maybe the player he wants isnt available? I'd like to think that this is the case or that Sam's been told to get rid of a few before he can bring in somebody else, such as a ball playing midfielder. I know we're getting a lot of bodies in, but it just seemed as though we'd done all of our 'major' sales after Roque went - surely that satisified the money men? I could just about understand that one, but the only case for selling Warnock would be for Sam to be handed the whole amount which really doesn't look like happening. Either way we'll know more by next Tuesday I guess. Sorry sounds like a crap deal unless we bring in a left back and central midfielder. No point saving the cash for January if it won't be there when Sam asks for it. Don't worry, we're keeping the powder dry

Sam has bought his players in, now is the time to be patient and see how it goes. We played very well against city and sunderland and should of come out of these games with some points. Lets hope the luck changes for us.
Rainmaker Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 So your point is that Chimbonda is as good as Warnock? No. I have not said that. My point is that by comparing the selling price of an outgoing player to the purchasing price of an incoming player you do not get a scale of the quality of the player.
spencey7 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 My point is that by comparing the selling price of an outgoing player to the purchasing price of an incoming player you do not get a scale of the quality of the player. Right. So who would you rather have at Blackburn?
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Hang on - didn't Sam himself say and I quote "we would need 2 signings to replace Warnock". He's going to look a bit of a tit if he doesn't follow it through!

Don't worry, we're keeping the powder dry thats the one for January we're keeping the powder dry I wonder if SAM looking for a samba replacement now before the board sells him in January or next summer. We really don't want to do a Portsmouth now do we.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 thats the one for January we're keeping the powder dry I wonder if SAM looking for a samba replacement now before the board sells him in January or next summer. We really don't want to do a Portsmouth now do we. I'd be very surprised if Sam has money to spend in January. With Rovers you get the feeling that when the manager has money to spend he needs to spend all of it, anything left over and saved for the next window usually disappears. Nicko, have you heard why there has been a sudden change from bringing in two players with the Warnock sale to just one? Is it your belief that Sam is just saying that to not put much interest on his target or has Sam been told by the board he can't bring in anyone else due to the wage budget being too high?
hollowsr Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 No. I have not said that. My point is that by comparing the selling price of an outgoing player to the purchasing price of an incoming player you do not get a scale of the quality of the player. Very true indeed. You look at the fee that Lescott has just gone for, this makes him the 3rd most expensive defender in the world! He's not even the 3rd best English defender. Also for anyone interested Salgado is in the reserve squad for tonight!!
spencey7 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 [removed quote] Look - I don't mean to antagonise, I truly don't. I love this club, deeply, and I simply cannot understand how accepting people are being over such gratuitous mismanagement. Ignoring these problems and hoping they go away won't work.
modes98 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 such gratuitous mismanagement. Ignoring these problems and hoping they go away won't work. Fair enough if you believe that to be the case but consistantly making the point over and over on here won't change that. Agree to disagree with the majority of people and move on.
nicko Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Got to say I find the 'no more signings' bit rather hard to believe or understand...but it is the 'line' coming out of all departments. Odd, to say the least. But I do recall Sam saying there would be no more business after Salgado...and Warnock left while Pascal checked in. I can't see how they can want a left back yesterday and then none today. Maybe there are messages being sent to selling clubs that they won't get big fees for their players. Maybe another plug has been pulled. We will have to wait and see.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I guess we will Nicko, can't help but feel we may have wasted money bringing in Salgado. Considering we have plenty of right backs already at the club and the fact he is really untested in the central midfield role. From all reports Sam had to fight to bring Salgado in and the wage budget was already stretched as it was. I assume the combined wages of Salgado and Chimbonda will be pretty close to what Warnock was earning, maybe slightly over and thats why the board may have said no-one else can come in? Maybe we shouldn't have brought in Salgado and Chimbonda, sold Warnock and used the wages and transfer from the sale to bring in a decent central midfielder and a left back/CB. Would that have made us a stronger side? who knows...

You CANNOT sell someone for £7m, replace them with a £1.5m journeyman and expect the squad to be anything but WEAKER. THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. If we stand back and swallow this crap we'll be in the Championship before we know it. Take off the blue-and-white tinted specs and your "SAM IS GOD" t-shirt - We're falling apart. Your aim is pretty bad in that case, it's only a rumor that JW reads this board. Try a sandwich board outside the main reception on Saturday, I'm sure you will have a great audience. Don't forget the soap box, and leave your Rovers colours at home.
G Somerset Rover Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 But I do recall Sam saying there would be no more business after Salgado...and Warnock left while Pascal checked in. Don't say that..Samba will probably be on his bike now.
mick Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 It's not a rumour that JW reads this messageboard, it is fact. I spoke with him personally outside the main office entrance in July and he told me himself that he reads this site. He also told me that he couldn't believe the speculation and the "certainty" that some posters claimed about salaries of players. He was quite emphatic about how wide of the mark some were with their claims about "private and legal contracts". Hope that clears it up for you.

I'd guess the individual wages of Salgado and Chimbonda would be close to what Warnock was on. There is no way that Warnocks wages were double what they are on.
