Cheers. It does make me wonder. I think Stoke have a local business man in charge. I dont know much about him but I dont think he packs the financial clout of an oil sheikh, Oligarch or Texan billionaire. Good on him for investing in the future of his club though and for doing it without selling off Stoke's best players.

Perhaps he could tell The Trust who Stoke bank with. Obviously their bank dont require any overdraft to be paid of as a matter of urgency.

Peter Coates is a very welathy guy who made a fortune in the betting industry. It is a amazing what an individual benefactor can do...when he is a fan.

By the way, he started out in the football ground catering business - selling pies - and once put my uncle out of business at Aberdeen.

Despite that he seems OK.

Official: Warnock has signed for Villa:

Ah well we knew it was coming, I was for it when I thought it might lead to improving the team but that doesn't seem to be the case, seems like it was the boards decision though.

I wonder if there was more too the bustup and why(If) he was keen to leave.

Any news on that at all nicko or the final fee?

He owns bet365, as we all know the bookie always wins!

But still why didn't we bring in a proper left back? If Givet is injured we are going to struggle, don't think Olsson is up to task and Chimbonda aint a left back.

Sam on his interview talking about Chimbonda being a class player, experienced and going on about his success at Wigan but that was as a right back not a left back.

Meh, i think we have come out of this deal badly unless we rectify it by bringing a proper LB in.

Disappointed to lose Warnock...especially to a team like Villa that Rovers (in my mind) should be competing with. I could see going to the big 4 or city. I guess it shows the pull european competitions have...

That said a win over hammers this weekend and I'm a happy Rover!

It's not a rumour that JW reads this messageboard, it is fact. I spoke with him personally outside the main office entrance in July and he told me himself that he reads this site. He also told me that he couldn't believe the speculation and the "certainty" that some posters claimed about salaries of players. He was quite emphatic about how wide of the mark some were with their claims about "private and legal contracts". Hope that clears it up for you.

Like Hughsey's FACT about how much Gally was on?

Of course we have come out badly on this deal and the trustees/bank have trousered yet another £6mil on top of the Santa Cruz, Derbyshire and Gally etc deals (less a pathetic bit spent). I know the overdraft was building up but this lot is taking the proverbial. Sam can't be short of a bob or two and if it were me I would be on my way. You can't run a club on negative cash and be successful.

We don't know what's happening with the money, sam might be planning on keeping some back for january or he might suprise us all with a last minute signing.

Come on Ricky. You've been around long enough to know that money does not transfer to the next window.

We think that every transfer window, but nothing ever happens

Very True ive been sat in front of SSN many a transfer deadline days expecting and............................nothing!

The worrying thing is for us at the moment is we have lost Brad, RSC, Warnock, Tugay, Ooijer, Derbs in recent times. They were big characters

and no matter what anyone says if you lose your best 3/4 players it is seriously going to weaken you. Sam has done all he can but i really dont

think we have replaced any of those players with higher or equal quality, Potentially better but not at present.

I trust Sam and think his hand has been forced and he has replaced these players the best he can. Hoping for

an attacking midfielder but i wont be holding my breath!

Take off the blue-and-white tinted specs and your "SAM IS GOD" t-shirt - We're falling apart.

I'll replace it with my 'I'm with Stupid' one and take up a unbending position by your side.

Stop posting, you're no good at it.

I'm very much looking forward to the season now. I think sam has been able to craft a team to his liking and im looking forward to seeing how he utilises what he;s brought it. Ok we're a bit lacking a some places, and the players we have will take a bit longer to settle in, but yno what, most other clubs are in the same position and we have to support the team and sam as they do their best with the resources we have.

The one thing i see with sam, which i certinaly didnt see with hughes or ince is that he wants to be here. We all knew that Hughes would bugger off as soon as a big job came up, and Ince was only here to help his mates out. Allardyce actually wants to be here and is doing his best.

He has my backing. Maybe you should go and support City Spencey7

Salgado playing LEFT back for the ressies...special late instructions...was meant to be RIGHT.

I wonder whether that means he is getting a run in that role ahead of a shock appearance on Saturday?

Nicko you know nothing......1 in 20 arse of a journo!

Surely not, Sam himself said today that he's no closer to playing, surely Sam wouldn't lie to the media??? ;)

He's captain as well, wouldn't be surprised if he was announced as our vice captain permanently either as it seems to go to whoever fancies it at the moment, used 3 captains already this season in 3 games!

My full title. ;)

How very strange...Sam said a couple of hours ago he wasn't ready for two or three weeks...and when he listed him today he had him down as a right back...

My head is beginning to hurt.

The thing is Salgado played a large part of pre season with Madrid so would be relatively fit, just hasn't played many matches but then nor has Chimbonda this year, so if Chimbonda is ready then Salgado can't be far off, only difference I guess is Chimbonda has PL experience but then Salgado has experience period.

If Salgado plays on sat we have had it. he looks about 40 stone and moves like an o.a.p. He needs at least 3 weeks with the ressies.

Brad - wanted away

RSC - Wanted away

Warnock - Wanted away

Ooijer - Wanted away

Derbs - Wanted away

Are these the characters we want?

Sooner have players who are happy to play here.

I don't see how the squad is worse than last season.

Remember we had no regular right-back, Andrews was a fixture in centre mid and played several games alongside Mokoena and we had to resort to Samba up front on his own on occasion.

It could be better but as we are £15M better off it could be much worse.
