Want a laugh, Warnocks comments on joining Villa

Stephen Warnock is relishing the challenge of breaking up the top four with Villa.

Warnock had a watching brief last season as Martin O'Neill's men flirted with Champions League qualification for the majority of the season.

He now wants to be part of the renewed bid to go a step further.

He told AVTV: "The main aim is pushing for that top four spot. That's the ambition.

"The manager is buying some really talented players - young and ambitious - and I'm sure they will see that top four spot as a target and goal.

"Playing in Europe is important - playing against the top players on the continent is fantastic - and there's no better stage to do that than on the Champions League.

"If we could do that, it would be a great achievement."

Our new left-back is also excited by this season's Europa League campaign - and is keeping his fingers crossed that the claret and blue troops progress this evening.

"We're in the Europa League now and that is hugely important, too.

"To play against great sides will be tremendous - just look at the likes of Celtic who will be involved in the competition now.

"If we can qualify for the group stages, we'll be part of that. It's a big night. After the result last week, it's a must-win game against Rapid. I'm sure the lads will go in with plenty of confidence and I'm sure we'll get the right result."

Rovers curse strikes again I see.

Warnock joined Villa for European football and ambition.

Guess what ? They just got knocked out first round :P:P

A bit sad that you would want an English team to go out because you got a good offer for one of your players and the board accepted.

We both know that Warnock joined for bigger reasons than the Europa League.

Things at Blackburn aren't all rosy, you don't need me to tell you that.

He has a better chance of getting on that plane to SA in the Aston Villa team. He also has a better chance of fighting for that top 4 spot with us, even more so now we've been knocked out of Europe.

All the best for the season. Have quite a soft spot for Rovers due to good friends supporting yourselves.

It's not sad, it's how players have been with rovers sometimes.

Good luck to him and to villa, just some people see it as grass is not always greener on the other side.

There not a big player, in a small pond anymore

Just ask David Bentley.....

I think a lot of the Warnock sale can be put down to the higher chance of playing at left back than he'd have at Rovers. A full run at LB in a top six side should see him at least challenging Bridge for the number 23 shirt next summer - he was never going to get there floating between left back, centre mid, left wing, up front, or wherever else we'd have stuck him this season.

You can just not in the transfer topic, because it isn't a transfer.....

I wouldn't agree on the SA point, regardless of who he plays for outside the top 4 then if he played well enough he would get in the squad.

Given your shakey start I find it difficult to see you staying ahead of Man C, let alone breaking into the top 4. You haven't spent enough and on foreign players. Buying english is admirable but a misplaced ideal that like Wenger will eventually cost MoN his job.

I don't think any Rovers fans wish Warnock or Villa bad luck, I think we just find it amusing. I was very impressed with Warnock's interview, even having been pressed again and again by the interviewer he didn't let himself be drawn into negative comments with regard to Rovers.

Interview with Sam tonight:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lXeir_MwWc

It seems that Sam has something more on his mind, he didn't want to answers the questions on further additions...surely Andrew Taylor could be joing as well as an midfelder...maybe Kevin Nolan on loan?

Sam replied "no, that's it" when asked about futher incoming players but looked to the left at the same time.

People will look in this direction when CONSTRUCTING an image or sound. Looking to the right, however, suggests thinking or an attempt to REMEMBER an image or sound.

In other words he was fabricating his response. Let's hope he gets his man/men............................. :P

Nothing new...but...

NO sell-on clause with Warnock but I think the fee is just under £7 million and rising. Good money for him.

Chimbonda fee and contract very sensible. Hope it's the same Pascal who was at Wigan, a cracking player and happy soul. Hope it's not the guy who went a wee bit astary afterwards.

Still can't believe there won't be more action.

Out and in.

If a lie detector, with sound had been rigged up, the noise would have been deafening.

Well there's very little left to sell - apart from Big Chris

Just watched it, and it just looked like he couldn't be arsed. I found it quite funny towards the end, when he was just saying... no... no... no, it was like he was trying to say no as much as possible, then he smiled when asked about Salgado. He is obviously keeping his cards close to his chest, and good on him.

I would rather we conducted our business in a proper, behind closed doors fashion, unlike the majority of the other premier league clubs & especially those that take our players using similar tactics. I reckon he still has a trick up his sleeve, as lets be honest... How many people really knew about, Van Heerden, Jacobsen & Salgado before they happened??? (I suppose we found out about Salgado thanks to that pic that one of the other guys on here posted up). But we never knew anything of the other 2. I reckon there will still be some movement, as Nicko says. ;)

Anyway on a lighter note... Thanks for all your effort Stevie Warnock, I'm very happy that you will realise your dream of plaing in the Europa League with Villa in the up coming season... NOT!!! :D:D:D (Why am I so happy they got knocked out??? I'm sure that the grass is always greener on the other side... am I wrong???)

EDIT --- I wrote the 'as Nicko says' bit before his last post... DUH!!!

ala bentley? oh no wait, MON is a rubbish over rated manager and cash is king i'd guess in stevie warnocks mind thats the reason he's gone, he's on something if he thinks villa have a prayer of top 4.
