" Whilst I may hope for some more spending I also trust John Williams because, so far, he hasn't shown any reason not to."

Well said, Roversider! There's far too much negativity and conspiracy theorising on this board at the moment. In JW we trust!

I don't think close to ten new summer signings is anything to be sniffed at, however much they did or didn't cost. Let's give them chance to prove themselves (in whatever position) and allow BFS a bit of time to shape his own squad. If we're bottom at Christmas, then maybe that'll be the right time to say he, or the board, have messed up.

Bet you have annoyed at least 3 people on here with those provocative words Kingsley!

I am sure that conspiracy theorists will point to a board determined to take money out but Jack always wanted Rovers to be run on a sound business footing. He gave us plenty of capital investment to help that (Ewood Park and Brockhall) but from now on its down to the revenue coming from the Premiership. Whilst I may hope for some more spending I also trust John Williams because, so far, he hasn't shown any reason not to.

I think people would just appreciate a little more transparency from the club. There is obviously something afoot or a change in policy, simply explaining what would put fans at ease - we might not like what we hear, but at least we know there is some benefit for the club.

2006?

I didnt think I saw Chimbonda or Givet appear in that game.

Perhaps they got on the pitch during "the incident" not sure that counts as an appearance but they still may have gotten on the pitch.

I was on about from a business sense. Seriously Is Warnock worth 5 times more than Chimbonda?

People are forgetting the amount of mistakes/ goals warnock was at fault for. Yes he tried hard, yes he seemed to give everything - but he isn't anything to lose sleep over.

I knew you meant from a business sense but we're a football club first and business second. The second business comes before football we're in trouble.

I rate Warnock, and you'll never convince me Givet offers what he does going forward. But all thats already been said.

I haven't seen any of chimbonda for what about one season now so who knows what he's capable of any more until I see him for at least 4-5 games I don't think I could say whether we've got a good deal or not.

But we shifted a left footed left back for a right footed right back, yet again we are left without two specialist full backs. It makes no sense to me at all but so have one or two other signings.

No, I'm sure there are still things happening...but it would mean another player leaving first I believe.

If you know different would a PM be out of the question?

Perhaps Kelbo knows something he did allude to something last night.

Kelbo is off to Majorca tonight, but I wonder where Sam may be on Tuesday ?? :)

Quick question, would Sam have preferred Warnock to stay?

Answer, an emphatic yes.

Did Warnock want to stay?

Answer, an emphatic no.

So we go and sign Chimbonda who at Wigan was a very hot property. Now Sam has got him at a good price because he hasn't performed as well for Spurs. I would back Sam to bring him back to his best. Chimbonda has played all positions across the back 4 so as a left back he is an option plus he provides cover elsewhere.

If you look at the squad now compared to the one Sam inherited I think it is much more balanced with cover across the team.

The proof of whether that is the case will happen over this season.

However the objective is to remain in the Premiership AND to make certain that the club we love remains around for generations to come. That inevitably impacts the decisions on signings, get used to it or choose another club to support.

Having watched us in the depths of the old Third Division and seeing us take a hiding at Shrewsbury I reckon these are good times. Maybe I may like the ambition (albeit naive) of other supporters but I aim to be positive and not depressed by what might be. Still everyone is entitled to their opinion, mine is based on decades of experience following Rovers.

Yep spot on Roversider! Someone a few posts back said words to the effect that "things are bleak, but people had better get used to it". I read that and found myself thinking....well if people see things at Rovers today as bleak, how would they have seen things in the 70's and 80's? Things may look bleak to the younger folk who have only been around since the days of Jack Walker or later, but believe me, just the fact of being still in the PL even at the bottom end is a huge improvement in things that some of us oldies have seen (and for a very long spell I might add). Be thankful for small mercies.

Kelbo. Do you have any information that leads you to think we will be making a mind blowing signing?

I struggled to think of a realistic transfer that would be mind blowing until one popped into my head (the only one in my mind)

I'll not give up hope, that's what being a football fan is all about.

"Mind-blowing signing" and Rovers tend rarely to co-habitate the same sentence, I'm afraid. Therefore we must presume he was joking.

That said, a Sheff. Utd supporting friend of mine yesterday used the words "outstanding" and Keith Treacy in the same sentence.

So there's hope yet.

Fulhams position last season goes to show the smaller clubs can still compete aslong as the manager is good and they buy well. I would be interested to compare our turn over to Fulhams, Bet there pretty similar.

I think Fulham spent about £20 million last season. Although their budget for transfers may not be large in comparison to many Premier League clubs it is substantially larger than ours.

What the poster is getting at is that Fulham are comparable club to ourselves- yet there manager was still given a chunk of money to spend. Whilst we have to sell to stay afloat, let alone sell to buy- much of it as a result of the 40 million sky deal.

Fulham have a sugar daddy. So do Wigan for that matter - Whelan writes off a lot of their debts.

Hodgson quoted today saying how Al Fayed has been very generous in pusing the boat out on giving him more money to spend.

The difference between the clubs is that the owner is still very much an active part of Fulham. However, for whatever reasons, and as yet we don't really know why, the Trust have opted to take a back seat. Therefore, there is no pot of money to dip into when the manager wants a specific player. Johnson cost £10 million while Sam has spent £12 million in total rather than on one player. I suspect that we have more in common with Burnley than with Fulham when it comes to money.

If the Sky money is having to be used to fund wages and running costs etc it is not really surprising that so little money is available for transfers.

Disagree- Burnley have not generated the best part of Circa 45million in outgoing player sales. You forget that the last accounts show that Rovers made a profit pre-player transfers.. Sam has not spent 12 million- he has made 18 million to fill the club's coffers.

Nor have Burnley had 17 years of Sky money.
