John
Only problem John, if he's not considered for right back then why sign a 30-40k per week back up? I can't see where else he'll play. Said it myself at the time, it was a strange signing and unless we get a injury crisis in the right back department, I cannot see where he fits in - I know our midfield is average but cannot imagine him having an impact there. Seems like Chimbonda will stick at left back, however he would be preferred to Salgado too at right back for me.

Stuart
I fit it incredible to think Sam actually signed him to play RB. Surely he had a different plan for him? I was tempted to type "If he didn't, he does now". But knowing Sam, he'll probably persevere just to prove the experts and punters wrong.
yellowsubmarine
Lars needs to go back to right back. Salgado lookeded horrible today. Chimbonda can't play left back. Suddenly we have a left back problem.

Suddenly we have a left back problem. Cannot remember which PL manager it was, but last week on the TV they were saying playing a right footer at left back is not sustainable. You can do it for a few games but it is not the ideal scenairo. Chimbonda was not great today but most of the team was poor - however, at Spurs he played 1-2 good games at left back, but the rest he was awful when played there. G Somerset Rover
Lars needs to go back to right back. Salgado lookeded horrible today. Chimbonda can't play left back. Suddenly we have a left back problem. That is Sam's fault and Sam's fault alone for signing a right back to play left back if Chimbonda does fall short of the required level in that position. I know he had to shop in the bargain basement for a Warnock replacement but surely a natural left-footer was the obvious choice with three right back's already on the books? An out-of-position Chimbonda is better than a certain Gareth Bale.
American
Thought Lucas played well for us at left back for a good run. For Tris, ditto those who watched Salgado against the Liverpool reserves.

Warnock was sold in order to pay Salgado's 2009-10 wages. Absolutely incomprehensible at this point.
G Somerset Rover
I'm a Spanish Rovers supporter - and I'm sorry for not joining the enthusiasm, but I think you're going to be really disappointed with Salgado. He doesn't have the legs he used to have. And has never had brain. He loses position easily and that's a nightmare for the centre backs. But you can expect a lot of commitment though. I know it was only one match but it looks as if our Spanish Rovers' fan did warn us correctly over a few of Salgado's traits on the pitch.

When he signed, spoke to friends who watch quite a bit of Spainish football and they are of a similar view to Siriwan.

Amo
Far too early to judge a player who was unfit. Remember Ooijer's baptism of fire? Like I said in the matchday thread, I was expecting Sam to ease Salgado into midfield, but yeah poor decision from the boss today.

John
Got to be careful not to get too carried away after just 1 performance. However, I thought he looked so bad today. Everything he did was poor and when Everton attacked him, he was too easily beaten. My concern on this signing has always been his lack of pace, how is this going to change? Let's just hope, like the rest of the team, it was an ultra bad day at the office for old Micky!

joey_big_nose
He reminds me of Michael Gray and that's not a compliment Not sure about that. When Mickey Gray first came he was our best player for a while (he only became shocking the next season). Salgado honestly had the worst debut I have ever seen a Rover have. Anyone think of anything that can top it? Ooijer got caught out, but to be fair to him he was playing in his unfavoured position against Chelsea, against top players. Salgado was not. And his performance was worse than Ooijers. He was small and slow, as well as being completely all over the place in terms of positioning. I won't completely write him off but there is no way he can play in the league against the pace of Villa.

You don't play for Real Madrid consistently in the last decade if you aren't a good player. Give him time to adapt.

67splitscreen
Even allowing for a lack of match fitness and being called upon at the last minute, his positioning was at best poor, add to that he was given the run around in the ressies (allegedly) it does not look good at the moment. Selling Warnock to pay his wages and bringing in Chimbo has a major question mark against it at the moment, if they are the only facts as to why Warnock was sold. Time is not on his side as is the case with younger players, what he did 2,3,5 years ago is irrelevant, it's what he can offer now, experience and technique yes the rest needs to be answered soon. Sam seems confident he has it all but he's hardly going to admit he boo booed .

Agree with all you said there splitscreen. I always imagined that he would be a holding midfielder DMC type.

If that was the case then IMO it was a bad mistake unless the player/s he thought would make up the wages was not Warnock, Sam knowing Salgado's demands and agreed contract details before Warnock was sold at least two would have had to be shipped out, probably Zurab plus one, that not happening put Sam over a barrel with JW and had to sell.
