T4E
I disagree, Tyson ripped him apart on our right flank, he couldn't cope with his pace and as a result he got booked. We were lucky that Forest for some bizarre reason stopped using their left flank as the focus of their attacks. There are quicker players than Tyson in this league that will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing Salgado. There's not many players quicker than Tyson in the entire Football League (including the PL). He got caught out early, booked and got his act together. He defended much better after that, got involved going forward and played well enough. Tombro - agree totally.

CrazyIvan
I'm assuming you went T4E but after reading several posts I think you're the only one running to his defence! I think the reality of the situation is that he won't be a bad signing eventually but he needs time to adapt to the pace of English football. I defended him a while ago on this thread, I listened to the commentary and his name was mentioned with good play in the second half and later in the first. He got booked and then seemed to get better. I can't judge completely having not watched but...

rover6
That looked weird. Did the burrowing guy think that Salgado was having a heart-attack - or was he worried about a head injury? Couldn't tell. Either, the Salgado legend continues to grow (even if he is getting skinned by every other left winger...!)
Steve Moss
That looked weird. Did the burrowing guy think that Salgado was having a heart-attack - or was he worried about a head injury? Couldn't tell. Looked liked Salgado was accidentally elbowed in the gut/chest area, and had all the wind knocked out of him. The offending ('burrowing') player, was attempting to expand Salgado's diaphragm so Salgado could get some air in. All told, everyone behaved with some amount of class. John
But surely you are willing him to be a success at Ewood arent you? I thought that was the definition of a supporter, isnt it? Of course I would love him to a success! However, I have felt uneasy about this transfer from the start (more to do with the likely high wage we are paying him). Firstly, I try not to (these days) make knee jerk reactions and be critical on any BRFC player, especially so early on in their BRFC career. Maybe I should exlpain my reasoning in a bit more depth below. Lars Jacobsen has started this season brilliantly. You would hope/expect him to get better as he plays more games. Should and has been first choice RB. Next in line if Lars is not available should be Chimbonda, as he used to be one of the best in that position the PL when at Wigan and for a period of time at Spurs - so if possible, he would be a better option in my view at right back. Problem we now have got is that we have no natural left back! Plus if we suffer injuries/suspensions, at a push, Andrews showed last season he could fill in there for the odd match or two(even Reid but he has contributed to goals conceded previously when played at RB). On Salgado himself, those who follow Spainish football say he is slow and cannot see him making a positive impression in the PL. Key thing is that I just cannot see where Salgado fits in at this moment in time. When we have a bulging wage bill (and are trying to reduce it), having such expensive back up just does not make sense to me (I am presuming he must be on decent wages). Bit of a ramble and just my view of course - would love to be wrong.
67splitscreen
All this does add even more confusion as to the so called "Sam's test" Just what does it involve.???????? the fitness of the player at the time of the test seems to be of a very low priority in some cases. Well everyone else had their test at Brockhall as you'd expect. Salgado had his test at Northcote Manor. I suspect it was finishing the 8 course Tasting Menu. I think the reality of the situation is that he won't be a bad signing eventually but he needs time to adapt to the pace of English football. How do you " adapt to the pace of English football" if your pace has gone ? Paint some go faster stripes on the kit ? Get your boots lowered ? Get your haircut? I'm getting on a bit now but I played full back and I was really quick, do you think if I got back playing again I could adapt as well ? Really worrying signing from the off, I said so at the time and got loads of stick from the usual " Video Game Football Managers ". We appear to have blown a load of dosh on a player we don't actually need, to the detriment of the team ethos if rumours are to be believed. DeadlyDirk
I said before we shouldn't write him off after 2 games but given his age and the fact that he's not here for the long term he certainly needs to pick up quickly, Jacobsen looks consistent and a decent player who on current form does not deserve to be dropped. Salgado needs to do more than just try and install a winning attitude in the dressing room for his reported 40k a week especially if Sam was very keen on him coming and had to fight for his signature if rumours are to be believed. Hope he does well because he was a cracking player but the premiership is cut throat, it's almost sink or swim and you don't get a lot of time to decide which way it's going to go. We can't afford to carry anyone so if he needs to get 'match fitness' then he should be doing it in the reserves not in vital league games and cup clashes. Pleasing to hear though he was apparantley better last night than he was on Saturday so possible signs of improving or perhaps just because it was a weaker team. We're almost the ones to blame as we bigged him up so much, hopefully he can be a decent player for us but in hindsight he was never going to be the world beater he once was otherwise I'm sure more clubs would have been interested. Only time will tell on this one, unfortunately for us and him, time is not on his side.

The Rover of Finland
Sam should check if Salgado could play CM. We have nothing to lose against Chelsea and Man Utd. He wouldn´t be worse than Andrews. Otherwise Salgado could go home.

joey_big_nose
Moment looks like a really poor signing, considering he isnt even getting minutes on the pitch. Yup. Seems utterly pointless. I wonder if him, Kalinic and Van Heerden will play a part in the second half of the season or will just disappear?
LeChuck
We were warned that Van Heerden would take a few months to bulk up, and also that Kalinic would taken 7 or 8 games. At least with those two you can see where they could fit into the squad - Van Heerden could be competition for Pedersen and understudy to Dunn, and the need for a striker is obvious. The thing with Salgado is I just don't see when he's going to get playing time, or how he fits into the first team picture even when he is up to speed. A defensive midfield role seems the only logical option.
ada2020
Must admit while I was chuffed to bits when he arrived, he is beginning to look like a complete waste of wages. Worth mentioning though that he had no sort of pre season if memory serves me. So he will be a long way of prem speed at the moment, I hold out some hope that he will prove an astute signing yet.
