LeChuck Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Becoming one of my favourites too. Despite not having as much speed, he's still has fit as a fiddle. I loved the Savage-esque closing down of the Birmingham midfield and defence in the last five minutes yesterday, sprinting after the ball as they passed it around. I think in the end they passed it to him!

Tim Southampton Rover Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Salgado means Savage in Spanish I think
The Rover of Finland Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Salgado means Savage in Spanish I think Maybe he left Madrid because wanted to be closer his parents?
Amo Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Salgado means Savage in Spanish I think It means 'salty' in Portuguese.
92er Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 At half time at the Chelsea game, we were remarking that Salgado had been all over the place defensively. By the end he looked more composed-I'm just not sure when the change happened, whether it coincided with the scoring of our equaliser or not.
thenodrog Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Sam laughs off row Sam: "They were having a bit of a tussle in the dressing room, but we just calmed it down and said, 'look, we'll sort it out after the game". "I don't think it was anything to do with the goal, I think it was more to do with something else, perhaps defensively what we should or shouldn't have done." "But it's nice to have a little bit of friction now and again." During the first half Diouff had a go at Dunny for stupidly not passing to him when he was completely unmarked on the wing. Whether that was the cause or not I don't know but Salgado was giving Dunny a right old earful as they left the pitch to which Dunny's reponse was to tell him to ' (Please don't use that word again) off' twice as they entered the tunnel.
Kelbo Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 For me the important thing is this, we have seen players at the back end of their careers looking for a meal ticket, this guy has been a real top player, yet he is still working hard and wants to do well for the team, a quality man and player, I hope he continues to do well as he is a top guy and is winning the fans over, well done Michel, magnifico!!
Alex Rover Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Agreed with one or two above. Once we're definitely safe (shouldn't be too far off) I'd love to see him in midfield a la Mark Hughes in the League cup final
BuckyRover Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 He is performing exactly as I hoped he would when we signed him. An inspiration to the rest of the squad. Steve McManaman described him as the "hardest" player he had ever played with/against. It seems he wasn't far wrong.
RoyRover Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I've been impressed by him over the last two games. Hopefully he keeps it going.
neekoy Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Salgado means Savage in Spanish I think Salgado means whatever he wants it to mean in any language, the general consensus is fear.

I get the feeling Salgado would murder him in a fight.
Exiled in Toronto Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I can't believe how far our standards seem to have fallen. A summer signing has two half decent games at the back end of March and he's seen as a success. Lucas Neill had 200 games that good for us, and no games remotely as bad as Salgado at Everton or Spurs, and people were glad to see him gone.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 You're joking, right? Neill had plenty of shockers. Like when he broke Carragher's leg for a start.
4ever&ever Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Neil was very hit and miss, he had plenty of bad games at the start but had more good than bad towards the end to be fair.
CrazyIvan Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Neil was very hit and miss, he had plenty of bad games at the start but had more good than bad towards the end to be fair. Yes, Neill was excellent in the last season before he left us, form he has never since regained. The problem was that he'd cooked his goose with the fans by refusing to sign a new contract and then saying he wanted to leave to win and play in the Champions League, following that he then signed for West Ham. Some Champions League, win things move that was Lucas... Whereas, Salgado has come from a win things/Champions League team to play in the hardest league in the world. He's proving he can too. Salgado is much more worthy of praise in my mind than Lucas ever was. He's also proving that he can play in this league and I, for one, am really glad to see someone of his quality here. His cross for Diouf to nod in on Sunday was magnificent.
Exiled_Rover Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Let's not be silly. Neill was a good player for us - yes he left on a sour note, but there's no need to disparage his time at Ewood because of his decision to better his financial future.
DanLad Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Lucas used to go from Lucas 'Cert for man of the match' Neill to Lucas 'Sent off for horrendous, pointless tackle on the half way line' Neill in the flash of an eye.
broadsword Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 His cross for Diouf to nod in on Sunday was magnificent. Fair do's, that was a pearler!
braddock Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 neill had two decent to good seasons for us (first and last). he also had plenty of awful seasons in between. awful distribution and a liability when it came to suspensions. i wanted him out for a long time but then when it became obvious how greedy he was i had nothing but disgust for him. salgado is limited for pace but nobody can question his effort for the team (a team where you don't get that from anybody and he is one of the players you could expect to just turn up for the pay packet) and i would much rather have him at the club than neill.

Neill was a good player for us - yes he left on a sour note, but there's no need to disparage his time at Ewood because of his decision to better his financial future. To be fair EIT, Neil was in his prime and didnt have an excuse not to do well. He had many poor games, with one against Newcastle if i remember correctly where he was nowhere defensively. Salgado, is at the tail end of a glittering career, and has lost the pace he had. However, the winning mentality is still there, along with the passion and agression. Its what the team needs right now, not a sulking fool who thought he was better than the team. Salgado FTW Let's not be silly. thenodrog Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 You're joking, right? Neill had plenty of shockers. Like when he broke Carragher's leg for a start. eh? What has one fair collison with an unfortunate result got to do with judging a 90 min performance?

Salgado isn't a success yet, but he's sure progressed from the complete waste of money he was a few months ago. Don't forget, ever since he signed here, the comments have often been tongue-in-cheek. He's a big personality and people are glad to see him proving his worth. Also, I think most fans had their feathers ruffled by the manner in which Neill left. He was upfront about his contract, but his pretext for leaving left a sour taste when he went to West Ham.
