He hasn't progressed much. Fact is he's had three of four good games, that doesn't make up for the amount of money we have spent on him. Had we played Chimbonda, Emerton, Jacobsen or whoever had been fit in those games we would have had the same number of good and bad performances. He's never won a game for us, he's never done anything particularly amazing, but he has been played off the park twice (and against Spurs in particular he was by far and away the worst player on the pitch and our biggest weakness...which is saying something considering Brown let one go under him and Chimbonda decided to ignore an unmarked striker 8 yards out.

How many right backs can win a game?

Lets not lose the plot. We're applauding Salgado because he's chosen to come to the relative obscurity of Blackburn from Real Madrid and having gone through an initialy hard couple of months he's now a regular on the team sheet.

He's put in amounts of effort which have left established premier league players trailing and that says a lot for a guy who has won as much as Salgado has. He doesnt need to be here, he has nothing to prove and yet he clearly gives a damn. That is worthy of praise.

Is he the best right back we've ever had? No, but why are you so keen to dampen our admiration for this guy when he's playing well and showing our fans the respect which i doubt many players who swap the heights of a Real Madrid for an obscure mid table English side would show.

eh? What has one fair collison with an unfortunate result got to do with judging a 90 min performance?

As I remember it he jumped in two footed at Carragher's knees - typical Neill rush of blood. The other chap, the German bloke we had on loan for a while (who was so forgettable I can't recall his name), that was a fair collision with an unfortunate result.

Markus Babbel. The very person i would like to replace Big Sam in a couple of years, although by then he will probably be to big to manage us.

Wait, what? What are these levels? Why did he accept our offer? Probably because it was lots of money at the end of his career. He's fairly respectful, I'll give him that, but so far he has far from justified the money we will have spent on him.

If he wanted lots of money he would've moved to one of the Arabic clubs willing to offer him ridiculous amounts.

Yeah well you remember wrong don't you. Slo mo revealed that Neill had his right leg leading with his left leg bent at 90 degrees and tucked under his right. He caught Carragher with his left toe and not his leading right foot. (I think that got the ball.) Therefore it was a freak injury and a complete accident.

I think you really need to check the facts before spouting the same crap that Houllier did at the time...... Incidentally the other French poofter Arsene Wenger claimed yesterday that he has still not mellowed regarding the tackle that Martin Taylor put in on Eduardo when Eduardo's leg broke and dislocated. That was never ever intentional but Wenger will never admit that he was wrong and he is still slinging enough mud so that some will stick.

How much money did we spend on him then? Plus I sincerely doubt that Salgado best money spinning deal was at Ewood Park

As far as I know West Ham were the only other club rumored to be interested in him. Perhaps he was offered something from Arab clubs, I never saw anything about that, but even if that is the case it isn't unusual that he turned that down. Fact of the matter is we are supposed to be paying him relatively well by our standards and he is probably in the top 10 earners at the club (and I am being rather conservative with that estimate). Fact is people like him because we need to like him; because he plays for us. He's not been particularly impressive in most matches, in fact he's been our worst player on the pitch in as many games as I think he's played genuinely well. He was an unnecessary signing.

C'mon Eddie, i think you looking far to hard for negatives, instead of focusing on the positives. If it was up to me, i would have Bert at right back, with Givet alongside Samba, and Chimbo at left back. Salgado has had a positive influence on the team, because he is a winner. You can hear, that the desire to do well is still there, and having a name like that around players like Jones is massive. Apart from the Spurs game, he has looked comfortable and composed on the ball, and been good going forward. Every team needs a player, who has a reputation with a positive winning attitude. Chimbonda's head is neither here nor there, Emerton has been injured, Lars likewise. Salgado has worked hard, and only exposed because Diouf has not covered his defensive duties very well.

He's more than respectful to the club - I've never seen a new signing seem to care so much about every game, particularly having come from the glamour of Madrid.

He celebrates every goal, shouts at people when they don't do their job properly (did you see him go all ninja on the goalpost after that poorly defended burnley cross?), will sprint half the length of the field in injury tome to chase a nothing ball. Take a look at the pics of him during the penalty shoot out against chelsea - for someone with his trophy cabinet to care that much about the league cup quarter final is astonishing.

I can't help but feel that it must be very beneficial to have that kind of person around the club, during training particularly, and I think that that has to be taken into account when people try and claim he was a waste of money.

Hell, he's looking pretty good on the pitch too...

While I think Salgado has done really well recently, it's wrong to say that the only reason he has been exposed is because of Diouf. Salgado was exposed because of his severe lack of pace and it's only a matter of time before he's exposed again.

which is why he will be picked to play for the games he is suitable for (providing other players are fit who can play there too). against the teams we have played recently (other than tottenham) he has done well. people are looking too hard for negatives. i wouldnt want him in against teams like united (at least not as a fullback and since he hasn't been played as a holding midfielder yet i wouldn't risk him their either but it's not out of the question) who operate with a lot more pace and he himself will understand this, but against teams like burnley he's been vital.

really glad we signed him, quickly becoming a fan favourite.

anybody any ideas on the chances of him being given an extension? i presume he's only on till the end of the season. if (and that's a reasonably sized if) he can perform physically the same next season i wouldn't hesitate in offering him a new deal.

I was quite critical of his perfomances earlier in the season. He has improved no doubt.

That said, he still was a major weakness for us at Spurs, and overall (as mentioned below) I am not convinced he is quick enough for the Premier League.

I think that now he's played regularly for a number of consecutive games, he's actually started to play quite well. He was in and out of the side earlier in the season and was also being played wildly out of position on the wing - if this guys a winger then Elvis is alive and I'm going to the World Cup.

Started to show his worth now, and will be a good person to have around the club in terms of professionalism, team spirit and setting the youngsters a good example!

After laying into him, unfairly, after his first few performances, I have been very impressed with his recent displays.

His lack of pace worries me sometimes but has been playing really well recently.

This fella grows on me every game. He seems so Rovers he seems to play with passion he can pass and defend I'm liking him more every time I see him. I also like the way he does not back down from anybody too.
