Bobby G Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 He won a couple of key ones on Saturday. Looked good.

Dan Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I wonder if we'd do well to play Salgado on the right wing? He can cross the ball better than Diouf or Pedersen(90% of the time, the other 10% Pedersens crosses are world class). Also he gets caught out of position a lot every match. Would Sam play Emerton at RB though? If
67splitscreen Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Most tackles won this season, a pass completion rate of over 80% this season. What other position needs that sort of player?.

When Salgado first came, I suggested playing him in midfield, where his energy and technique could be put to better use, but I remember people sneering at it.

I think it was initially suggested he could play central? In a Tugay(I'd give my left testicle to have him back now!) kind of role? I don't think he is up to that, though if the stats are right he may certainly help! It's a pity we don't have someone decent in the centre and let him roam, like Dunn does. On another note, I wonder if he agrees with Sam's awful football? I guess he is too much of a top class professional to question the manager though.

I think many were questioning his fitness and the fact he had never played the role before. No one saw Jones doing a job in MF but he has, still better in CD though, doubt Sam sees Salgado in that role somehow. It would allow Emerton to move back to right back, switch Diouf to the right side and Olsson back on the left, with MGP and Dunn through the centre when he's fit again.

So filling in the gaps... .................. Robinson Emerton . Samba . Nelsen .. Givet ........... Salgado ... Pedersen .. E. Diouf ...... Dunn ....... Olsson .................... Kalinic Or something along those lines. I think Salgado could do a decent job in midfield, but not alongside Pedersen and Dunn, we'd be very flimsy. .................. Robinson Emerton . Samba . Nelsen .. Olsson ........... Salgado ... N'Zonzi .. E. Diouf ...... Dunn ..... Pedersen .................... Kalinic I prefer that myself. That way we'd have two attacking full backs, allowing Diouf and Pedersen to roam from their wing position. N'Zonzi would add more protection than Pedersen in the centre.

I still think his crossing is a big asset that we'd miss with him playing centrally. Though if he was given permission to move about a bit.....

Though if he was given permission to move about a bit..... Exaggerated a little I think, three against Stoke all late in the game all completed two to Samba and one to N'Zonzi, one against Blackpool unsuccessful, three against Fulham one successful to Benjani, none against City, Arsenal and Everton four against Brum one successful. Don't get me wrong, not having a go at his crossing ability, but 11 in 7 games (not all full 90 min) is not irreplaceable, whether the quality of the cross is that's another question, if replacing him with Emerton then it could be a factor. The second of the two formations above does look better balanced.
67splitscreen Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 is there any way to stop him getting old? Ramm has the same boot size.
John Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Salgado would probably break my face if he read this, but I wonder if Sam plans to rest him at any point in the season? With his age, he may find the demands tough going especially when we have a lot of games in close proxmity. Also, for games such as Spurs away for example, when up against Bale, there is potential for him to get caught out like he did last year (due to lack of pace/positioning).

IMO he should be rested from time to time. Regarding Bale though; in the form he's in he'd make any right back look a bit of a tit right now. Pacey, strong and with a few tricks to boot. It'll be interesting to see how Salgado deals with him this time should he play.

I don't think I'd want to be Gareth Bale when the day comes. Saying that Bale will learn a lot from it, probably.

Kelbo Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 More like his shins, still marked, from last seasons encounter. Its a team thing, I feel we will see a right midfielder push up on Bale, then Salgado can come round the back of him!!

Bobby G Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 He is in Dubai tonight partying at Cavalli Club with some other Rovers, but I dont know who else. A friend of mine had his picture taken with him and sent it to me.
3rdpillar Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Post it! What is he wearing? A Salgardo Suit of course
Amo Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I would try this out, especially at home: .................. Robinson Emerton . Samba . Jones .. Givet ........... Salgado ... Nzonzi .. Hoilett ...... Dunn ....... Olsson .................... Kalinic Salgado harrying, while Nzonzi holds the middle. He might even learn a trick or two from the former Galactico. Hoilett and Olsson out wide to give us pace and movement, Dunn supporting Kalinic in attack. This is the only chance you'll get to see this line-up, anyway.

Actually you know what, moving Salgado to CM is not a bad idea. We need some quality there and he has it. However I am a bit mystified by you dropping EH DIouf who is currently our best attacking player by a country mile, and Nelsen who seems to have refound his form. If anything I wouldn say Nzonzi is the one in line to be dropped. He has been awful:- ----------------------Robinson Emerton----Nelsen----Samba------Givet ----------------Salgado---Jones EH Diouf-----------Dunn-------------Olsson ------------------------Kalinic

I was thinking more in the long-term. This is a big season for Jones, and I think he's being wasted in midfield. Diouf has improved, I admit, but he's still pretty frustrating when he slows down play holding onto the ball for too long. He'd be an effective sub, replacing Hoilett when we need to run down the clock, or tough fixtures away from home.
