Valois Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Andy Cryer Tweet - Michel Salgado - an absolute top class bloke. Read his refreshingly honest interview in tmrw's LT Looking forward to reading this. I'm delighted he has extended his contract for another year, fully deserved,he's a class act and a credit to his profession, top example to all our youngsters coming through the ranks. May have lost a bit of pace, but still gives 110% every game. I really hope we can keep him on after he hangs up his boots as a coach or ambassador role.

Amo Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Salgado wasn't offered a new contract. He wrote it himself.

He 'll be having a house built around here soon, moving over here from Espana. I don't think.
tonyoz Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Crisis? What crisis? “And if a big name player asks why he should come to Blackburn, my answer would be simple. Why not? We have a great project for the future. “I will be telling them this is the place to be. If they ask me for advice, I will tell them to come here and enjoy great football and a great atmosphere. Even the fans, you can see they are thrilled with the situation now." http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/225899/Blackburn-s-Real-good-for-Michel-Salgado

Great to have him at the club.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Not for me. He's had a good run but the legs are going, and when they go it's usually rapidly. Centre half, centre midfield can get away with it but at full back pace is essential. When you allow sentiment to rule your decision making you usually come unstuck. Anyone like to tell me we haven't blundered now ?
roversmad95 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Anyone like to tell me we haven't blundered now ? I have to agree with you tyrone. I said to my dad his legs had gone today. He was lacking today getting skinned all the time and only went forward once I think. Very poor today. Hope it was just a bad day like the rest of team had!
Amo Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 He needs a couple of weeks off to recharge his batteries. Put Emo at right-back.
JAL Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Would Salgado make a better Manager than Kean, i'd gamble that he would providing he had a very good number two.
LeChuck Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Your posts are entertaining JAL, but you do worry me sometimes! What are you basing that post on? I'm not saying he wouldn't be surely there isn't a shred of evidence to support any theory on Salgado's managerial ability?

A winner at the highest level 3. a long sustained period of winning at the highest level 4. 'Know how' of what it takes in a player to win at the highest level 5. a more credible persona amongst players Just a few things that would rate him higher and give him that competitive edge over Kean
sam_rovers Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 any right back would have had a tough time today.. the formation, or lack of formation, left the right side of midfield completely empty. At some point Salgado had 3 players running at him and no one was there to help him.

Exactly, the last couple of games he has had no cover whatsoever and against a team who like to play the ball wide, we play a diamond formation, well supposedly, I couldnt work out what formation the team was playing yesterday.

English is Salgado's second language, I doubt he could communicate better to the players. 2. Winner as a player not as a manager, plenty of those who have failed- badly. 3. See above. 4. See above. 5. Hey? How so? Kean is according to EVERY player I have listened to, superb on the training ground, MGP, Olsson, Salgado, Roberts to name four, what qualifications does Salgado possess? He may become great but top class players do not necessarily make top class managers (Ince being one) and players who have failed as players can make top managers (Wenger, Mourinho, naming two), and no I am NOT saying that Kean is a top class manager!

Actually agree with Jal here.. I do think he would make a good manager and I might get blasted for this but I think toogs and Savage would also make good managers (but not Shearer), they have that something extra intelligence, self confidence and charm and thats not a combination that normally comes with a football kid (no offense meant too footy kids but most tend to play sports rather than work on the brains side of things). As for successful players who became managers.. our own dalglish, hughes and souness.. compared too Parks, Kidd and arguably Kean. You mentioned Wenger and my favourite manager Mourinho, they both have that self confidence and intelligence too make it and my hat goes off too them as they had too work very hard too get the players respect as well.

I think I'd agree about Salgado. I'm not sure about Savage though. Having read his auto-biography, I can't see him doing it well. BTW, too and to are different words and of and have are not interchangeable...

JAL Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Paul Ince? Paul Ince a good communicator. His English is worse than mine
dopper69 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Paul Ince a good communicator. His English is worse than mine 4 out of 5 still isn't too bad
JAL Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 4 out of 5 still isn't too bad Ince has no idea what it takes in a player to win at the highest level, all Ince can think of is himself. Ince would have the mindset of being very fearful of anyone who would pose a threat to him and with this his natural instinct would be to remove, avoid, or crush them.

Just as a side note.. "English is Salgado's second language" then quote two manager who have made it in England both of whom do not speak English as a second language.. confussed. BRFC1995 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 has to be emerton at right back after yesterday, salgado too slow way too exposed, and pointless contract extension if he is seen as a right back in the future. being a bit(lot) slower may not be so bad if he was in front of the back 4, could'nt be worse than mokoena and considering jones ain't exactly pulling up trees and his fitness record is 10 times that of all other midfielders i'd go emerton....nelsen.........samba.......pedersen/givet if fit ............salgado........................... ......................dunn.................... hoilett............................olsonn .............formica............................. .....................rochina................... bolton played a pair of lightweight midgets in centre midfield and dominated everton, considering IMPO that nzonzi is rubbish as with roberts and kalinic and roque only ever seemingly 60% fit i'd go with the above at least the above team might manage a soddin effort on goal after yesterdays horriblis.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 He's 35 for Gods sake, name me another 35 year old right back playing regularly in the Premier Leagur ?
Steve Moss Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Does Salgado have his badges? I can see him as a manager, he has the presence and mentality of it. The question would be whether he has the technical expertise. Even so, I would want our manager to have a management track record some where else before we bring him on board. In my opinion, the EPL is not the place to serve one's apprenticeship.
