Just downloaded and installed a new system upadate. Anyone know what it does?

Nothing that you would notice really. The main thing is that its meant to make the online more stable.

I suspect though that we might start to see little updates coming out as they prepare for the BIG ones - Home and in game XMB.

Cocker - do you know why fifa sometimes doesnt work when you invite someone and it doesnt allow you to select your teams, is this common?

Didnt see you online last night, im usually in the my country or my level lobbies.

This is just a guess on my part but when you load up a game online for the first time (each time fifa starts) it auto updates for you. As this takes some time I think that sometimes that:-

a) the guy your waiting to play leaves the room

b.) The room that was created for you was taken by another user - I think this one more likely because I have played with mates before and they haven't quit out.

Again, only a guess on my part.

I was online last night from 7 till about 9:45. You may not have seen me on because you only accepted the friend request after I had switched off (I had it on this morning checking something and found that you accepted) If ever I go on and see someone playing fifa I drop them a message asking if they want a game - have dont this with Wolverine and Kamy before. If I see someone playing something else I leave them alone because there is nothing worse than quiting out of a game to load up fifa and then find you only get to play 2 or 3 games - all this will be easier of course when we get in game XMB.

If ever I invite you to play, head to europe room 2 (room 1 is normaly full and its easier to meet up in room 2)

Just been reading the early posts in this thread. Some of the xbox fan boys were outrageous!! Haha. What does everyone think a year on? Think COD4 on ps3 is one of the best games i ever played in single and online mode. Addicted to it madly.

A year on I'd stick by what I first though. The PS3 is the better machine, but I don't expect it to really be able to take advantage of that before the next generation of consoles are released. It's lack of games and the fact that xbox live (no matter what any of you say) is the best way to play video games online, means that the xbox is the better console to own at the moment. I'm not a fanboy, that is just how I see it at the moment. It could all change if Sony somehow gets some good games out in the next few months, but I just can't see it happening.

I think that is typified by the fact that benhben states that COD4 is the best game he has played.

With the achievements and Xbox Live he would be enjoying it even more on the Xbox.

What, like Metal Gear Solid?

The preorders for MGS & PS3 bundles are through the roof apparently. At the moment I would think that they are neck and neck in the "race", pointless as it is. When MGS and FXIII come out, PS3 will fly ahead unless the 360 has at least 2 more Halo 3's up its sleeve, which I don't think it does. Not enough games? I went into GAME today and couldn't move for top titles like Army of Two, Uncharted and other top quality games, just disappointed I couldn't buy them all.

I'm getting bored of the "console war" if I'm honest. We'll have good games, so will the 360. Personally I think that the PS3 will get some great titles this year, and I'm obviously delighted, but I haven't heard much about big 360 releases. But then again, I haven't been listening closely, probably the same on your end re PS3 releases.

But there isn't a war, because Xbox 360 is so much better... <_< (yawn).

Here's a new angle for you Xbox fanboys - we don't care if you think Xbox live is better then PS3 online. Neither machine is universally better than the other. I played Fifa 2008 online on both, and it turns out they play exactly the same... Who would have thought it? There was me expecting to be blown away by Xbox's superior online experience, yet still everyone picks Barca/Man U against you and exits the game when you go 3-0 up.

If you really want the best online experience, get a PC. But even then it is only marginally better than the consoles and only because they have been doing it for longer and you aren't stuck with just a joypad to control everything.

Personally I look forward to Home, GTA, and more of the stunning visuals the machine creates from photo's and music. I also look forward to the TV tuner whick will nicely complete my multimedia centre in one solution just as I want it.

OK, so PSN updates about once a month. So Home is now so late it is getting worried and thinking about taking a clear blue test. So every decent game so far can be completed faster than sheep in Burnley... It's still a good machine with a good future - especially now Blu Ray is becoming the format of choice.

Strange that you are getting so het up. From everything I always see on the internet, it's usually the Sony owners that will defend to the death anything and everything with a Sony badge on it.

As it is, I agree with everything else you say. The games to me look identical from what I've seen and the exclusives on either I could take or leave. The only reason I have a 360 is that it cam e out a year and a half before the PS3 here. I was going to get a PS3 but cost and the fact the games are the same put me off. Don't car about online so don't really care about live or PSN (although I did find it amusing in the Fifa thread saying that you had to open ports for the PS version to work).

Each to their own, may both consoles continue to get great games that entertain their owners.

And no, I don't think there's a single exclusive I want on either format. GTA IV will do me and that's about the only game in the release schedule that interests me. (apart from Guitar Hero - Aerosmith!)

Why does everyone say Xbox live is much better that the ps3/PC free online play? Dont you have to pay for Xbox online and cants see how playing Call of Cuty/pro evo etc online can be much different on any genera. Just the fact as whether its free or not would sway me.

Not saying any is better or worse, just wondering how xbox live can actually be that much better.

Wouldn't say I am het up with people criticising the PS3, but it is boring when fanboys who say they aren't fanboys (not you) feel the need to post on a PS3 thread about how thier machine is better online without backing it up. Still not sure what the issue was with Fifa, as it plays online straight out of the box for me...

just wondering how xbox live can actually be that much better.

Because Eddie says so.

I agree with Wolverine, its amazing how many xbox fanboys choose to voice their opinion about how great the xbox is in a ps3 thread - I read other forums and its very rare that an Xbox thread gets invaded by PS3 people saying - its better on our system (queue the "because it is" chants)

Anyway, personally I have been disappointed with the lack of games out on the PS3 but this year will hopefully be the turning point with games like:-

Haze

Little Big Planet

Metal Gear Solid

GTA (I know its multi platform but as said, this is a PS3 thread)

Buzz (I love this when friends are round and the wireless controls will be awesome - I have fell over the old ones loads after a few beers)

Killzone 2

to name but a few.

For those who like a bit of a read you may want to cast your eyes over this for some interesting wordage:-

I've not seen any fanboy posts in this thread since I started reading it 6-7 pages back. If you're referring to Eddie well he was just answering a question.

I have a 360, very happy with it so far and I continue to buy games on it. Release schedule looks pretty good this year with Ninja Gaiden 2, GTA IV and Gear of War 2 all being released which'll do me as far as the major games are concerned. Might pick up a couple of others on budget prices if and when I can.

Major games on the PS3 that I wouldn't mind seeing on the 360 too are FFXIII and MGS4. However with the whole FF franchise being rather ###### since 9 and with Metal Gear games having a tendancy to be released on other platforms eventually anyway (edit: just realised only 1 has been, for the GC) those two aren't enough to persuade me to buy a ps3 just yet. Besides which the vast majority of the top games this generation have been cross platform anyway and with the Xbox achievements system i'd simply always buy non-exclusive games on the 360. Another factor that makes me stick with 360 is everyone I know has one and not a ps3, and if that situation was reversed i'd probably have a ps3 and not a 360. This is the first generation of consoles since I started buying them back in the 80s where I feel neither is better than the other and there's probably no reason to own both. (Wii excepted, although that's in a little league of its own).

PS3 Exclusives:

Metal Gear Solid

Final Fantasy

Gran Turismo

Uncharted

Little Big Planet

Killzone??? (I think this is exclusive)

Resistance Fall of Man

Wipeout

Tekken

Time Crisis

Warhawk

What still amazes me to this day is the lack of built in WiFi in the XBox. It would appear to me that most XBox owners seem to be teenagers who are interested primarily in games, whilst most ps3 owners seem to build their entertainment system around the ps3, myself included.

It gives me a right chuckle everytime I see the legendary red rings of death.

End of story really.

How is that amazing? Why add to the price of the console by including it if you don't need it. Never had any need for wireless on my xbox, nor would I trust wireless for streaming HD video on my "entertainment system"

Nope, I am 30 something and play games on it. I wouldn't build my entertainment system around the 360 or the PS3 as they are both consoles. I have a fully fledged Media Center PC that can play and do anything you can throw at it including Bluray and HD-DVD (RIP).

Likewise Jimmy, I would ove to see Bioshock. I didn't realise FF is a Playstation exclusive. That would do well cross platform in my opinion...

Sorry mucca, but Im pretty certain that the next FF (13???) is a PS3 exclusive.

Firstly the problem with Media Center PC's though is that they are so samn square and ugly. I certainly wouldnt want a PC alongside my TV, surround sound, sky HD ect - it just would not look right.

Secondly, I would imagine that in order to have not only a HD DVD drive but a blueray drive in a PC would render it quite expensive (I may be wrong, but an off the shelf household blue ray player is around the £400). Why did you have both anyway? A little bit of homework would have pointed you in the direction of Blueray.

Thirdly, I would assume that in your multimedia PC you have an optical audio output (like the ps3) and built in dolby true HD decoder? Again quite a costly addition to a typical 'multimedia PC'

The fact of the matter is that no matter what 'spin' is put onto the PS3 it represents excellent value for money and its a sexy looking piece of audio equipment.

As a side note it is also number one in the 'console top 10 section' of both the latest issue of T3 and Stuff.

Again only my opinion.

OK, continuing to drag this way off topic.

You haven't actually looked at many then as they come in all shapes and sizes. Hell even Apple make a small cool looking media center. Each to their own though. I personally find the PS3 looks one ugly mother... and would fit in best next to a toaster.

Well imagine away. As it is, a single internal drive which can read both Bluray and HD-DVD can be had for about £135. The fact it's in a PC means that at least I'm not constrained by the BDA's archaic Region coding and upgrading the software means I will definately have a profile 2.0 player when again the BDA finally gets it's act together. And it's only been clear since just after Christmas that Bluray would win (if 2% of the global DVD/ HD market is winning) remembering that the formats have been out for nearly 2 years now.

Thirdly, I would assume that in your multimedia PC you have an optical audio output (like the ps3) and built in dolby true HD decoder? Again quite a costly addition to a typical 'multimedia PC'

Again, assume away. My motherboard has an optical, HDMI and analogue 5.1 outputs, the software (PowerDVD) does the audio decoding of TrueHD over the analogue outputs. I'm taking it that if you are using an optical output then you don't realise that you are actually getting a down mixed Dolby Digital signal to your amp. Dolby TrueHD can only be carried by HDMI 1.3 on external audio equipment.

The fact of the matter is that no matter what 'spin' is put onto the PS3 it represents excellent value for money and its a sexy looking piece of audio equipment.

Fully agree (apart from the "sexy looking" bit) and I think you find I wasn't spinning anything if you bother to read my reply again. Meerly stating that both machines are consoles.

As a side note it is also number one in the 'console top 10 section' of both the latest issue of T3 and Stuff.

and?

Although i'm not a teenager I did indeed buy my games console primarily for games. Fancy that.

Me too!

I know five people with Xbox 360's.

All 23 and over who ONLY use them to play games (and Xbox Live)

I don't know anybody with a PS3. (I know one guy who traded his 360 in for a PS3, and then a few months later traded it back)
