I kept all my old PS2 games expecting to play them at least once in a while. I played GTA:SA for a week or two leading upto the release of GTA IV, but apart from that, the PS2 games haven't been touched. Every PS2 game I have has been bettered.

Bite the bullet and get a 2nd hand 60GB.

Don't forget FFXIII (probably got the numbers wrong, but the next one) Cocker.

It has a massive fanbase and may even match MGS for sales.

Confusing one this because there are two different games coming out - This will explain things better than I could - click (Dont waste too much time reading through most of the posts on that message board though because most of it is tripe - you could read it and appreciate this message board a bit more though I guess :)

To be honest excuses like this still amaze me

It's not an excuse mate. The fact is I currently have set-up at the moment a PS2 and a Saturn. (The Dreamcast is boxed away and only comes out for Virtua Striker now and again).

I probably play the Saturn more than the PS2. I'm still picking up Saturn games that are good that I've never played for next to nothing off ebay.

There are a number of PS2 games that I would continue re-playing no matter what console I had. I'll also continue to pick up new PS2 games for pittance. There are also games that for some reason I;ve never had that I still want to play (God Of War 2 for instance.)

I'm pushed for space as it is. The fact is it would be easier to have one console that could play all my PS3, PS2 and PSOne games (you gotta still love Porsche Challenge :) )

The cash isn't a problem. We know they can do backwards compatibility at a price. We also know they could do ropey software emulation that is still better than nothing. I'd hate to buy one now for them to re-add compatibility in the future.

There's also the problem that I've got a 6 year old nephew that I promised my PS2 to once I bought a new PS3. The little blighter keeps nagging me excitedly when he can have it. When I promised it him I didn't know Sony would retract one of the major features of their next generation console.

The thing was that everyone was moaning about its price and no one would buy it. There were people on forums all over moaning about why they would want to play PS2 games in it anyway. So, they took a few things off it (size of the disk - memory card slots (which I have never ever used) - and the Backwards Compatibility) to make it cheaper and so make it more affordable for people that couldn't afford it at the start. It also didn't make business sense for them to have two different models on the go so they had to drop the more expensive one.

Like some have said, you will be able to pick one of the older ones up if you look around.

(PS - I loved the Saturn too)

Metal Gear 4

Unchartered

Gran Turismo

Resistance Fall of Man

Warhawk

Motostorm

MGS3 bored me to tears, so there's no way I'd want to endure more of that.

Unchartered - not interested at all

GT - I hate realistic driving games

Resistance - just another FPS

Warhawk looks pretty dull to me

Motorstorm I've played, and it was awful!

Plus I'm not a big Final Fantasy fan, and you just know Killzone is going to be pants... Little Big Planet - I want professionals to design my games, not other players!

I do like games, though. Honest! Just want to play stuff like Rez with the trance vibrators and San Andreas and Vib Ribbon, all upscaled and looking nice. And I couldn't bring myself to buy a pre-loved console.

According to PlayStationLifestyle.net, Sony plans to release firmware 2.4 on June 10, two days prior to the release of Metal Gear Solid 4. This would make sense as we have already stated that the firmware update was planned to arrive around the same time as the launch of MGS4.
Earlier this month we reported that trophies would be coming to the PlayStation 3 in the next system update, firmware 2.4. Recently other news outlets have been reporting similar tips, stating that not only will trophies be available, but full in-game XMB and use of custom in-game soundtracks.

Looks like tomorrow, folks.

Not gonna get a chance to see if the update is on.

Anybody checked?

EDIT: I hear it was far too buggy and they postponed it fpr a few days, estimated around 18th June.

I havent actually switched on my PS3 to check however from what I understand it isnt here. Also, nothing had actually been confirmed for today (nor the 18th).

No I know, it was a semi big PS3 site who said they had some insider info. They have apologised and asked the Sony person and he said he didn't have a date, although he didn't dispute what was gonna be in it (XMB, Trophies etc).

Waiting game...

I think Sony have learned not to give anyone a date for these type of things. What seems to be happening is that some fool on a gaming forum makes up some date for an upgrade or even a demo release and says they heard it from a sony insider and then half an hour later its on things like Newsnow and there are links in all of the popular gaming sites to it. When the date comes and goes its poor old Sony that gets a bashing from the public for something they never promised in the first place.

Dont get me wrong. I am not 100% happy with what I am getting from Sony at the moment (yes I know its free and all that but we wont go over that old ground again) but I wont bash someone for something that they never promised (I am not saying you are by the way :) )

Apparently the PS Store now has previews of the games and things before you buy them (as the US Store has had for ages)

Also, I am looking forward to the Enemy Territory Quake Wars demo tonight. Looks allot like warhawk to me - which I love.

One for Wolverine.

I see that you have the PS EYE (I could see that you were playing creature feature) Care to give us a little review.

I had one for the PS2 but after a couple of goes it never got used again.

The dream for me is that you will be able to stick your face on a player in game with it (I know that This is Football/Rainbow 6 had it but didnt work very well in my opinion)

I'm still not buying one until they re-introduce PS2 compatibility.

It seems daft that we know it can be done but they've removed it.

I was just logging onto the last page of this thread to ask this question!

Just bought a used PS2, thinking about buying a Blue-Ray player and someone suggested the PS3 instead, but I don't want to have to deal with 2 consoles and PS3 doesn't have Nobunaga's, which is the reason I bought PS2!

Anyone know how good the BluRay is in the PS3?

I cant say for other bluray players because I haven't used them but for me the PS3 is excellent. I have also watched reviews on gadget shows and what not and everyone says that it can more than compete with a top of the range player.

The most important thing about it that its upgradeable (via patch downloads) were most bluray players are not so its always up to date with the latest technology,

American, I would recommend you get the PS3 as it is a very good blu-ray player (it competes with players much higher in price), and you don't necessarily have to use it for gaming. In any case you can still get hold of the PS2 compatible ones here and there - look around online and at trade in stores.

Cocker, the Playstation Eye is, if I had to sum it up in a concise manner, 'quite good'. The resolution is far better and the prospect of using it as a web cam for online chat is something that appeals to me. However, as far as games go, you can get Aqua Vita, Trials of Topoq, Creature Feature, Tori Emaki, and Mezmorize, of which I have the first three. It is also compatible with som other games which I don't have. It isn't compatible with any PS2 Eyetoy games. The Eyetoy is compatible with some of the new PSEye games, so I am told.

Aqua Vita is basically an aquarium with minimal interaction. My son quite likes it though. Trials of Topoq is sort of like Marble Madness in a way, and is quite good. The best is probably Creature Feature where you 'carry' monsters through a sort of maze past al sorts of obstacles.

The criticism I have is quite simple. It isn't enough of an advancement over the Eyetoy. OK, the original could be quite infuriating with what it clased as movement and this incarnation is far smarter, but the games just aren't there. Eyetoy Play gave you loads of games, as did each subsequant disc released. Now you buy the camera (or the eye of judgement pack) and you need to buy extra games individually from the PSN. The games are cheap but there isn't much longevity to any of them outside of party gaming.

I hope the games developers start to make use of it as the only thing I have ever wanted is to put my face onto characters. I admit it is sad, but I suspect many of us are in fact sad enough to do it! So, EA, if you happen to be reading an obscure thread on a football thread across the globe about a team you consistantly get wrong in your games, please add this function to FIFA 2009. Thank You.

Something that I heard it does which is quite funny is if you have Burnout and your playing against someone. At the point you crash it takes a picture of your angry face and shows it to the other guy

Apparently so. It was originally supposed to recognise your face and log you on to your PS3 account automatically. Who knows, it could happen with an update, but will they really do it?

To be honest I thought that was out already? There is meant to be something called Eye Create that lets you do things as below and its free - have you not had a look at that?

Firmware 2.40....again.

This source is somewhat more reliable than the other, but Sony has NOT confirmed it, so don't take it as fact. But one of these has gotta be true eventually, right? :)

Firmware 2.4 due in three weeks time; features revealed

Posted on June 25th, 2008 at 08:12 EDT

According to reports from CVG, Sony is planning on launching its upcoming Firmware 2.4 update for the PlayStation 3 in around three weeks time, coinciding with the E3 Media and Business Summit next month.

Previous reports suggested that the update would arrive some time next week; however, according to the website’s anonymous source, this is no longer the case.

More interestingly, however, is the supposed list of final features that consumers will be able to access via the XMB when it launches.

· Friend category

· View, send, receive messages

· Manage downloads

· Set the vibration feature of the controller

· Sign in to PlayStation Network

· Register friends

· Manage Bluetooth devices

· Terminate the game

· Music category

· Use the system BGM

· Work the system BGM operation panel

· Settings category

· Assign controllers

· View profiles

· Game category

· Set audio devices

· Use the voice changer

Users will also be able to play back their own music via the XMB’s Music column, though it is currently unknown whether or not this feature will be compatible with all software, or simply those created with the most recent development tools.

Sony has yet to issue comment on any of the above, so stay tuned for any further information as it becomes available.

Guest Kamy100

Got this on the 360 last weekl. I loved Virtua Tennis 3 but Top Spin 3 is much better. It is much more of a simulation and matches feel "real". I like the way that I have to work for my points, especially against higher ranked opponents. Also like the variety of shots and the career mode is excellent and will take me time to complete.

The learning curve for TS3 is pretty steep and at first it can seem to be too hard and unresponsive, however when you learn how to time shots and get into position it all makes sense. I would also suggest that people go and do the Top Spin School, it really helped to improve my game and understanding of how the game mechanics work.
