Hughesy Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Got the olympic 'button bashing' 2008 game at weekend. Its good for a party of for the first few hours, but the game has quite a few bugs, freezes sometimes and some online players use cheats. I just took it back and got an exchange for Metal Gear Solid

Hughesy Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 What will this add to our ps3's when in a game like say fifa?
Cocker Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 What will this add to our ps3's when in a game like say fifa? Well the main thing it will add is the ability to speak to someone without quiting the game. At the moment you see someone come online while your playing fifa. You fancy giving them a game. You quit Fifa only to find them playing something else but you send them a message anyway - and wait to see if they bother to quit their game to come and see what you wrote. If they do quit their game and decide to play again, there will be lots of messing around while you try and find a room to play each other. Now, with the update you will be able to stay in your game and access the main bar without quitting to make all the messing around with the above disappear. I think this is just the start. For some games when HOME comes out you will be able to meet in there and just go straight into a game against each other from the off. (Granted, the 360ites have had most of these features for a while now but its exciting times for the rest of us )

Hughesy Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 So will you be able to read messages received without quitting games after this update?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Yes. Basically, it'll let you do all the things you do outside of a game (messages etc), while in a game. Hence, Ingame Menu.
Hughesy Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Whats the online game play like for Top Spin 3, anyone know? Got this on the 360 last weekl. I loved Virtua Tennis 3 but Top Spin 3 is much better. It is much more of a simulation and matches feel "real". I like the way that I have to work for my points, especially against higher ranked opponents. Also like the variety of shots and the career mode is excellent and will take me time to complete. The learning curve for TS3 is pretty steep and at first it can seem to be too hard and unresponsive, however when you learn how to time shots and get into position it all makes sense. I would also suggest that people go and do the Top Spin School, it really helped to improve my game and understanding of how the game mechanics work.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 The media bar works well enough, but every game needs to be patched (which uses it) before you can use the trophies. Only certain games are getting the trophies as of now which are Warhawk, Resistance 2 etc, and not GTA/MGS, but that could change. Not tried trophies (don't have any of those games) or the ingame music tracks, but the menu itself seems to be just the thing.
Hughesy Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 So rather than listening to the normal music on games, can you load your own onto the ps3 and then play them when in games? Also how do i load music from my Laptop to the ps3?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Yes you can. I think you can stream them directly or alternatively just put them on a USB stick or storage device and plug it into the PS3, extract them into a playlist and that should be it. Not had a try yet but it's supposedly idiot proof.

While the ability is there to do it the game makers have to incorporate it into their games and at the moment there are none that do it. You can load music onto your ps3 but not listen to it while playing a game. EDIT - Sorry, there is only one game at the moment that supports it and that is Super Stardust HD
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Really? I was just listening to Muse while playing GTA IV at a friends, so no idea how he's done that then.... EDIT: Nevermind, it's because it's his brother modded/hacked one. I think you need patches before you can get trophies in games, and ingame music as well. I've heard BF:BC has the ingame music patch up now but don't have it so might not be true.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/uncharte...g-ps3-trophies/ Trophy updates are coming, but it'll be a long time before every game has them. Still, at least they are actually doing older games, lots of potential for trophies in GTA/MGS and other games which I have.
Guest Kamy100 Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Sony have pulled 2.40 due to the reasons below: http://kotaku.com/5021458/ps3-240-update-p...s-and-solutions
Cocker Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Sony have pulled 2.40 due to the reasons below: http://kotaku.com/5021458/ps3-240-update-p...s-and-solutions Mine was fine? Given the problems above though I wonder what will happen to these people. I mean, if they cant reach the main title screen how can they install a new update to prevent the problems they are having
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I think they need to get it replaced. If your initial install worked, you should be fine *touch wood*, it's just those who got corrupted straight away which are between a rock and a hard place. 2.41 should be here anyday, so anybody who hasn't yet updated can do so then. Without worrying about screwing it up, hopefully.
dopper69 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Updated my PS3 with no problems on Wednesday. I am sure that this 'problem' is being blown up by the 'internet community'. All 8 people I know with a PS3 have been fine. PS - Any one got any details on the upcoming PS3 footy games (Pro Evo and Fifa) or maybe LMA Manager??
Cocker Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 PS - Any one got any details on the upcoming PS3 footy games (Pro Evo and Fifa) or maybe LMA Manager?? I am going to ask for this question to be moved to the new games thread if thats ok as the footy games should be discussed on all the formats.
captin_of_the_silverbullet Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Hi all! I've already posted this on the 'X Box 360 faults' topic, but realised it would make more sense on here! My cousin bought an XBox 360, and he can burn cd's onto it and play his tunes, as he plays games. The only thing is, it keeps freezing on games and not reading perfectly ok disks. I have had a recommendation to buy the Playstation 3, which does sound like the better console. Can I burn music onto a PS3 and play it whilst i play games? Cheers, Paul.
Hughesy Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 2.41 released - PS3 just updating now - any ideas what this does? Is it just a fix to the problem i didnt even have?
Cocker Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 2.41 released - PS3 just updating now - any ideas what this does? Is it just a fix to the problem i didnt even have? Its the in game XMB one. If you had already downloaded the previous one this is the update to make that more stable
American Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Anyone know if I buy a PS3 over here and a TV over there if they will work together?
