To the best of my knowledge American (and I wouldn't say my knowledge is expansive), the PS3 has no region coding. Also, if you are using the HDMI video mode, there shouldn't be any compatability issues. The only problem you may run into is running a UK PS3 on a USA TV or vice versa using the 'Composite' option. I can't recommend the HDMI option highly enough, though.

Also, don't trust my judgement as I am not 100% sure, wait for someone a bit more savvy to confirm it!

Home Closed Beta is going live.

Kind of.

In the US I think they are inviting people to download the theme then they will monitor how much they are using the PS3 so they have active testers, but over here I think they are just monitoring the most active people on the PSN and inviting them by email.

Either way, it's on the move.

Themes - I can't see any BRFC ones apart from this one:

I'm using that at current. I'll probably have a go at making my own BRFC one soon though.

As far as the PS3 games, there is no region coding I believe. But if you plan to do any Blu Ray watching, Britain and United States are in different regions for Blu Rays. Thus, you'd have to import all your Blu Rays if you bought a PS3 in Britain. However, as far as TV if that's what you're buying in Britain, you might have some problems since Britain broadcasts using PAL while the standard in America is NTSC (ATSC starting Feb 2009 when everything goes digital). But I dont' think you'd have a problem between the PS3 and TV themselves.

Moving to England, so want to bring a PS3 over. Knew about the TV, which is why I had to get rid of my 6 month old Sony :(.

We are having a tax-free weekend next weekend, so might have to grab it then.

Lots of the blu rays are being released region free. Fox is the main culprits that are releasing everything region locked. As for the other's quite a few of the major ones are completely region free, others are hit or miss whether they are region locked. Games though shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure if the PAL/NTSC differences will have any kind of difference to the ability to get it to work there. Although in Europe (I think it's been released there) they have a program called PlayTV that can basically turn your PS3 into a personal DVR with channel menu and lineup grid and all that jazz, but it only works for PAL.

Some of you may have played the excellent game Warhawk (for those that havent - do)

I hear today that an update is coming to give the little fellas jetpacks - sounds good to me. These guys just keep giving. I have lost hours on this game and the new update would be very interesting.

Whatever happened to that ps3 home? Was meant to give online players a virtual character who could walk around an online meeting place and chat to other people. Ive never seen it, has it been scrapped?

No it hasnt. The beta testing is still going on. It has been confirmed to be here before the end of the year:-

The 80GB is the replacement for the 40GB version and will retail at the same price.

Sony will also releasing 160GB version on 31st October, this will cost £360 but will come with £70 worth of downloadable content.

The only difference between the machines is the size of the hard drive and there is is speculation that they contain the smaller 65MM chipset which reduces power consumption.

If he can wait then yup 160GB would be a good choice, but the 80GB is also very good, it has plenty of storage space and for £299 it is a good deal.

I agreeKamy. The 80GB is good value and if you ever need to upgrade the hard drive its a piece of p*ss, seriously you could probably change it one handed its that simple! Kamy do you have a link to these rumours of the reduced chipset?

Also everyone keep in mind, Sony made the PS3 easy to change out the hard drive. You can check the user manual, but really it's as simple as removing a plate on one end of your PS3 and unscrew a couple screws, switch out hard drives, and re-tighten screws. The PS3 uses the stardard sized hard drive that you'll find in any laptop computers. So if you're buying purely for hard drive size, sometimes it works out much cheaper to buy the smaller hard drive and find a good bargain on a 160 or 320 GB laptop hard drive.

Best of all, changing out your hard drive does NOT void your warranty.

Anyone got any trophies? Got an 'Invincible' one on Warhawk.

Must say, the updates seem to have made the game better - it connects now!

Yup. I have the same trophy on warhawk but also because I hadnt played in a while went on and did some training to learn how to use the new toys. When I completed the ground training it gave me a trophy - which was nice

Loving the Jetpacks by the way

The only way I think I could get bored of Warhawk is if people stopped playing and the servers were empty. Many games I buy, finish and take back to the shop but this never gets old. You just pick up and play anytime - drop in and drop out. The little £3.50 updates breath new life into it and these updates are where most games would just bring out 'warhawk 2' and charge you full whack for it.

Very good job to the guys that make this game.

(Note to any new people buying though - dont be put off if you get destroyed when you first start playing. There are people who play this thing every day for the past year and they are brilliant. Once you get used to the maps and what each weapon does you will be fine and start to enjoy it)
