Love the sixaxis controllers. I thought the loss of rumble would be a bad thing, but wireless more than makes up for it.

Dont quote me on this because as yet I have no proof at all but I reckon its only a matter of time before one of the companies that make the spin off pads will release one that does have rumble in it (but no sinaxis because I dont think there is room for them both in such a small pad) They would rake the money in if they did.

In fact, now I come to think of it, my only gripes are related to backwards compatability issues, so as a machine, I think the PS3 is great.

I always wonder why someone would be so bothered that a machine could play the old machines games. I remember when there was a big thing about PS2 playing PS1 games - so what I thought. I still have my PS1 IF I wanted to go back and play them.

The same with xbox360 and ps3. Which ever one you have, after paying big money to get it are you really going to say "thats enough of Resistance Fall of Man/Gears of War, think its time to bang in Call of Duty for the PS2/Xbox"

If I did have a PS3 right now and have sold my PS2 the ONLY game I would even consider buying for the PS2 would be God of War II (could have mentioned Spiderman 3 but that will be out on the PS3 anyway)

True, but looking at the launch line up, it is a little heavy in the first person shooters and racing. There are no football or snowboarding games, or anything to rival the GTA/Canis Canem Edit style of game.

Final Fantasy XII is only on the PS2.

For those reasons, I expect to be playing my PS2 games until they have been superceded by a next gen title.

Also, I think the PS2 games are a better price until the developers bring out a really good next gen title (such as Resistance). It was the same for me when PS2 came out - I played my PS1 games until they were bettered, but took advantege of the improved loading times and graphics.

Fortunately, there seems to be several very good next gen title's in the making (GTA IV, Colin McCrae, the inevitable FIFA/Pro Evo, 'Home', FFXIII).

Hope you're right about the controller - I was told that the company who make the rumble technology is now Microsoft owned? Anyone know?

So - are you going to make a trust fund so you can get one, Cocker? There are some real bargains to be had on ebay...

Sony recently settled with Immersion - the company that sued them over the PS2's rumble - so it's pretty much guaranteed that there will be a rumbling PS3 pad some day. They wouldn't need to make the thing any bigger - the PS2 pad had decent rumble, and the PS3 one is exactly the same size. The rumble motors fit in the handles.

There is the possibility that both could work together (copyrights permitting). Someone in the 360 modding community added a motion sensor which controlled one of the thumbsticks and obviously on the 360 it includes rumble aswell. Take a look here

Codswollap.

They sold 160,000 first week, that is IMPRESSIVE by anyones standard. Of course sales are going to drop second week as all the hardcore fans and the tech bots will have bought theirs, but still they managed to shift 33,000. Sony are the first company to get enough systems on the market so people don't have to pay over the odds, they could have done like the Wii and 360 and supplied 70,000 units for launch and it would have sold out and people would have had to pay on Ebay. Of course the PS3 faces challenges but I feel confident that Sony will be able to meet them, they have recently shown with announcement of "home" that they have already started to meet the challenge of Xbox Live.

Are you Phil Harrison in disguise?

It's too early to say Home meets the challenge of anything when nobody has actually experienced how it works. To me, it looks like a fancy front end you're going to have to load up to browse information that's easily accessible from simple menus in Live. Meeting your friends in a virtual doll's house doesn't sound that appealing.

As for the sales figures, I think what the ukresistance site is suggesting is that there's so much unsold stock everywhere that the 160k figure can't be entirely true. Price reductions and 'bargain' bundles barely a fortnight after launch are bad signs.

There is no need to spend so much money on a PS3, when the xbox360 is here for much less. I'll maybe get one when they become cheaper, but at the minute there are no games on the PS3 that I fancy. I am also hesitant to buy another Sony console after my PS2 stop reading discs, a common problem apparently. My original Xbox was great, lasted forever with no problems. I am on my 3rd Xbox360! New technology must be so mass produced and cheap.

Just been into town with the Mrs and she said why dont I get one. I have now left town without one but am starting to kick myself. Tomorrow could be the day :tu:

Could someone please confirm:-

That you can play PS2 games on it - God of War II being the important one. Oh and Pro Evo.

What is the HDMI cable for? Do I need one?

Cheers

ive heard things that not all ps2 game can be played on it because they keep crashing and so on which contradicts what sony said when they first released the console and said that all ps2 and ps1 games could be played on it.

There will have to be many software updates and so on till you can play all games on the console just like the xbox 360 is doing. Releasing updates for normal xbox games as they can.

Also it isnt as easy as that because they have to think off security on the console and not to mess your console up so its unplayable before they release any updates for anything.

So dont expect a quick fix for this.

and back onto your question i would say cheeck around the internet for a full list off playable games on the console just like the xbox 360 has a list off old xbox games that can and cannot be played

To answer this question, you don't actually need one unless you have a HDTV. Sony ship a standard analogue cable that will work on all TV's however you won't get HD unless you get a HDMI cable and your TV can take one.

I don't really think that's all the point. The reason Sony should be worried by the massive drop in sales is that the over year old Xbox 360 is keeping up with it. Surely a brand new console should be well and truely out stipping it? (I'm only talking about UK here)

I think the console sounds and looks great but they really do need to drop the price by about £100 and fast.

I have now left town without one.

Dear god, man - you had it on a plate!

Pro Evo works apparently, of my games, Burnout Revenge works completely, as does Canis Canem Edit, but I am awaiting an update so I can go online with Fifa 07.

If you aren't bothered though - wait a bit.

However, you could always order online - check out hotukdeals.com and look for ps3 for the best curent cheap deals.

Oh, and only get a HDMI cable if you have a HD ready TV. A cable for normal tellies is included. I think if you do have a HD TV, definately get one - lots of places doing free cales now.

Get Resistance: Fall of Man. You won't be disappointed!

Yes, I know it beggars belief why I didnt get one yesterday but when you are standing there thinking that your about to drop £500 on something that you dont really like the games that are on it (yet). Weird I know but look at it this way. If any of the current games for it were on the PS2 I wouldnt even think about paying £40 for any of them (apart from fight night because I have that but the PS3 game is an exact copy of the PS2 one but with better graphics). The only driving game I own is Burnout Revenge - and I dont have that on all that much - so thats Motostorm, Ridge Racer and F1 out. I have had First Person shooters but they just do my head in. I have given loads a go but cant get into em - call of duty - medal of honour - black - killzone - halo - YES EVEN THE MIGHTY HALO. So that kind of rules our Resistance fall of Man. As you can see, I am running out of games. But, as the good lady said to me, If I want it I should get it now because it will be difficult to try and buy one when our baby arrives in June but not as difficult to buy a new game - so get it now while we can afford it - top lass :tu:

The game a play every week (online - have never had a normal game of it) at the mo is Pro Evo

The games I like allot are games like - GTA, Prince of Persia, Bully, Spiderman, God of War - you get the idea

So, as far as I can tell none of those type of games are out for the PS3 yet so I am just trying to agonise over what to get with it. As I understand it though you do get to download Gran Turismo (although not a full game) for free - but again, I wont be playing it that much because I am not really into racers.

I think though that I am going to plump for the Tennis game as my main pick. I am not into Tennis at all however, every time I have picked up a tennis game in the past I seem to be able to play it for ages (have wasted many a pound coin in the arcade on it) For another sport fix I may go for the NBA game. Same as the tennis, I am not really into it as a sport but enjoy the game - weird eh. Of the bundle I think I get that leaves one more game out of Resistance and Motostorm so I think that choice will end up being a flip of a coin.

I have been lying awake thinking about this since 3 this morning and have come down to write this down so that I might be able to go back to bed and get some kip. While typing this at stupid o clock I am starting to think that I am a sad sad man or what some may call a spotty geek (though I have no spots) but I dont care because later on today I will be the proud owner of a shiny new PS3, Rovers will have won 3 points and I will be able to rest in peace once more.

Cocker, if you are prepared to wait for delivery the play have this fab offer for £499.99:

http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/RNR...ck/Product.html

Or you can get the PS3 on it's own with a free HDMI cable and Click Blu Ray for £399.99:

http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/GEN...ck/Product.html

To be honest, the deals are all generally the same. Our local WHS has one for 399.99 for the same price as play. I think that game have it on its own for 375. Will make an on the spot choice.

Thats cool.

Just been testing out PES6 on it, unfortunately it doesn't work to good, just checked Sony's Backwards Comp site and it lists PES6 as working but with Significant issues, the good news is that it should work better after the next Firmware update. God of War 2 is listed as working with NO ISSUES.

I've bought Fight Night Round 3, Virtua Tennis and Motorstorm all of them are awesome games, have heard that Resistance is also very good especially online.

When you get it add us oe of your friends if you want, my PSN ID is : Kamy200 (some git had already taken Kamy100).

Yeah will add you in when I get set up. Have you downloaded GT? How is it? Exactly what do you get? Is it just a demo really? Are any other games free to download for it?

Yeah GTHD downloaded that, it shows of the HD graphics capacity of the PS3, deffo has the WOW factor, but it is more of a tech demo.

There are quite a few game demo dowloads, I have downloaded the F1 demo it is looks superb. You can also download free HD movie trailers for a few films, Casino Royale ones looks very good.

Also until the 23rd of April the PS3 Store games such as Tekken HD, Flow etc are £3.49.

Also read that they are due to add all the new stuff that the US playstatin store got last week within the next few days.

Add me too dude - can't remember my id - will find out - or pm me yours and i will find you.

Kamy - will look for you too if thats ok?

Cocker - I am in the same boat as you as far as shooters go. Absolutely hated Medal of Honour, Call of Duty and their clones but R:FoM has blown me away. I usually like racers but trust me that Motorstorm can't hold a candle to Burnout.

All I need now is one of those memory card transferers!
