So normal downloads from the store, iplayer, tv player & online gaming will still all be free?

i belive so. they cant remove iplayer cause we can jsut acces it from the browser, and online gaming will remain free, these are just addons

Nope they are not. I have two official pads and they are not duel shock.

sorry for the late reply, you must of purchased your controlers before the dualshock came out (or shortly after) you will have the six axis controler and that is no longer being made

Right guys...decided to finally get in on the next gen console action and get a PS3.

Can you guys recommend any brilliant games from a while ago that will now be cheap? I've decided I'm going to work in some sort of chronological order, if I just go for the newest games I'll probably miss out on some older gems. Plus a lot can be had for well under a tenner now!

Edit: Just to say...I'm not crazy on first person shooters, unless they're more of the puzzle kind rather than blasting kind. Deus Ex is a good example I guess, I really liked that.

The first one you want to start with is Unchartered: Drake's Fortune, the new one has came out in the last few months which if I'm not mistaken was voted game of the year by many and the first one is just as good and probably available for a tenner or so. Never played Deus Ex but this is kind of a puzzle based shooter. I don't know anyone who hasn't loved this game.

I don't really play any shooters either (Which probably again tells you how good Uncharted is) so can't comment on them but I'm aware there are plenty of good ones about like Call of Duty.

Others that have been out a while and should be cheap

Assasins Creed: Very good games which other people can probably explain a lot better than me, a sort of open world stealth ninja assasin type game

Elder Scrolls Iv Oblivion: As above, not played a game like it to compare it to, kind of a role playing fantasy game, open world.

GTA IV: Bit of a let down for me but still a great game and probably fairly cheap now, I actually preferred San Andreas

I haven't got around to playing Prototype or Infamous yet and they might be still £20 or above but quite a few people seem to have enjoyed them.

Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resident Evil 5 are 2 others I haven't got around to yet but are pretty highly rated.

If you like racing games then Racedriver Grid (I think it's called) was probably the best racing game I played this year. You should probably check out Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (Or is it 4?) which is probably very cheap and a good indicator of what GT 5 will be all about which I think is out soon. Not a massive fan myself but it's more of a simulation which I'm crap at and don't have the patience for.

If you like sports games then any Fifa or Pro Evo game is decent, personally I prefer Pro Evo but it pretty much seems personal choice these days, many and probably the majority these days seem to enjoy Fifa. The Fight Night games are very good if you like boxing and if you've ever loved any kind of fighting game which has a fair bit of skill to it then UFC Undisputed is probably my own personal favourite game of the year.

I don't think there are many great sports games out at the moment for PS3, I've tired Tiger Woods, Ashes Cricket, World Snooker, NBA Homecourt and a fair few others which I could tell you more about if interested but while there all quite fun for a bit none really have much lasting appeal or any great career modes.

What other sorts of games do you like? I've tried quite a few and am looking for some recommendations myself.

Wikipedia tells me this...

PlayStation 3 games that have sold or shipped at least one million copies.

* Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (4.17 million)[134]

* MotorStorm (3.31 million)[135]

* Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (3 million shipped)[136]

* Grand Theft Auto IV (2.659 million approximately: 1.89 million in US,[28] 169,000 in Japan,[137] 600,000 in UK)[34]

* Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2.6 million)[138][139]

* Resistance: Fall of Man (2.5 million)[140]

* Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2.5 million approximately; 1.9 million in the US,[27] 600,000 in UK)[34]

* Final Fantasy XIII (1.516 million)[141]

* Resident Evil 5 (1.32 million approximately: 585,000 in US,[142] 475,799 in Japan,[143] 200,000 in UK,[23] 62,040 in France)[144]

* Infamous (1.2 million)[145]

* Heavenly Sword (1 million)[146]

* Killzone 2 (1 million)[147]

* MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (1 million)[148]

* Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (1 million)[149]

* Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (1 million)[150]

Yes get yourself Uncharted 1 as you will definately be wanting a do at Uncharted:Among Thieves awesome game!! Dead Space is a very good survival horror type game that would be relatively cheap others I would recommend are MGS4, Bioshock, Fallout 3, Batman Arkham Asylum, obviously not knowing what your type of games are I cant really go into specifics but there are some very good games knocking about that you will be able to pick up for bargain prices, enjoy!

I'll start by saying I've just ordered Unchartered for a tenner. I couldn't not do it after the glowing reference.

Edit: Also ordered Resident Evil 5 and GTA4 now.

You did a very good job of picking the sort of games I'm looking at! I've ordered GTA as that's one I definitely wanted. Really like the look of Oblivion so I think I'll get that.

I liked Fight Night on the PS2 so I'll look into that one. Does Tiger Woods not have a good career mode anymore? I had a version a few years ago and I was addicted for a while because of the career mode. Have you tried either Virtua Tennis or Top Spin? I'm considering getting one of those.

What are your favourite genres?

Before you buy any games, make sure you have a look around the Playstation Store found on main menu and download as many demos as you like.

Uncharted is a brilliant game, as already noted.

The PS3 hasn't arrived yet, I'm trying to order some games so that I have some when it arrives, but I'll certainly get on the demo store when it comes.

I'm not sure what sort of genres I like...I do like ones with puzzles though. I really enjoyed the Hitman series on the PS2. Anything with a good co-operative mode goes down great as well.

I admit I was very vague with the question so that doesn't help! I will look into those though, Fallout 3 looks excellent on first impression...just need to dig out some more gameplay videos on Youtube.

I've played virtua tennis and thought it was great, although only play it for multiplayer so no idea what single player is like, I'll second Batman, I thought it was class, and I'm not one for single player games. If you like burnout on the ps2, then thats quite a good game. Ashes 2009 is good as well, I'm still wanting to get that meself, might be able to get it cheapish now. Little Big Planet was quite enjoyable as well although the novelty soon wears off, but worth a go if you can get it cheap enough

Another one actually is Siren Blood Curse, thats quite a good little game

Le Chuck - I know that you have said that your not over keen on First Person Shooters but hear me out as you have said that you do like a puzzle.

What you need is this:-

Click

In that game pack are a bunch of First Person Shooter games but tucked away in it is a game called puzzle game called Portal. I am not normally one for puzzle games and bought this for Half Life 2 however Portal became my favourite game in the box and has one of my favourite endings to a game ever (And I have played and finished allot of games)

As others have said and you already have Unchartered 1 (which you have ordered) is really good but you will need to get Unchartered 2 as this tops it quite a bit. GTA which you have also picked up will keep you going for ages and in my opinion was an excellent game.

Other games to pick up which I would consider a must are:-

Batman Arkum Asylum (£17.99 on play at the moment)

Assassins Creed II - Skip the first and go straight to this (catch up with the first one on youtube first)

God of War III (out March)

Super Street Fighter 4 (out April - if you like the street fighter games)

Fifa 10 (its a toss up between this and pes but this is much better than pes online)

Killzone 2 or Call of Duty 4 (if you ever change your mind and want a first person shooter)

Heavy Rain - (out March) this isn't really a game and more an interactive movie but looks good

Infamous - choose this over prototype - similar game but this is better - graphics arnt great but its fun - which a game should be.

ahhh Heavy Rain! Thats the makers of fahrenheit on the ps2 isn't it? Looking forward to that!

aye you can get it on the jap store already.

as for games, uncharted (one and two) is a must, assassains creed (one and two) (though the first one gets very repetative) i personally enjoyed tomb raider underworld but it is rather weak on the lengh of the game. singstar and/or buzz are great for partys (buzz is like sonys version of scene it only there are questions relating to music, genaral knowledge ext ext)there are also a few gems to be had on the playstation store, hustle kings (pool game) worms 3d, wipeoutHDpure

Are you sure about that? A trailer has gone up but not the game. The full game would be too big to put up on the store anyway

its more chapters than full game, at least i think its heavy rain

Guys,

Do not freak out if your PS3 is:-

Giving you errors

Throwing you back to the XMB when you start a game

Missing Trophies

Not letting you sign into the Network.

Its not the PS3 dying (as some people - not here - have already started saying) its some problems that have crept in since the last update.

The fix is coming soon - click -

The problem that has occured stops affected systems logging onto PSN, when they release the fix affected systems will be able to access PSN, they think that part is a problem with the servers and how they are "talking" to the older PS3's, since the dates etc became messed up, they are working on getting this sorted.

The other related problem which has been caused by the date reset will need an update, as per previous updates you will be able to download that from a website as well as PSN.

I suspect it is very high priority so hopefully something by the end of today.

It's very frustrating seeing as any game that has Trophys (meaning nearly all), cannot be played seeing as they want to be online as well!!

I caught someone's theory that this is the first even numbered non-leap year since the PS3 release:

2007

2008 - leap year

2009

2010

And this is what is causing the problems. Which I personally this is ludicrous if the PS3 cannot handle a non-leap year!
