[Archived] Finest View In Lancashire

Recommended Posts

The view from the top of Darwen Tower takes some beating. On a clear day and starting by looking clockwise from the south west you can see Snowdonia, the Ribble Estuary/Lytham, Blackpool (with the Tower and the Big One), the Isle of Man, Barrow Docks, the Lake District, the Howgills, Bowland Fells, the Three Peaks in Yorkshire and finally Pendle Hill.

If anyone can recommend a better vista than that, I would like to meet them!

PS You can just make out some of the roof at Ewood as well!

Chipping valley from Cardwell House across from the car park on Jeffrey Hill is as good as is gets imo. I'm lucky cos the one from my lounge window isn't far behind either. Deep wide wooded valley with just one other house in sight about a mile away. Complete privacy with peace and quiet all week long. magic.

The view from the rear terrace at the Inn at Whitewell is good.

Walk across the stepping stones, follow the footpath up and around until you eventually reach the summit, where you can then look down the valley and view the maginificent River Hodder. I defy anybody to find a finer view in Lancashire. Oh yes and then back to the Inn at Whitewell for Fish Pie!

I think I might have a trip out to have a look at this!

I've not eaten at the Inn at Whitewell, but I suspect that a bit of fish pie would certainly do the day out no harm!

TBH I might have a trip out and have a look at a few of these destinations!

(Although I'm not sure if I'll knock on and sit in Theno's lounge!)

Throw in a large glass of Fairhall Downs Sauvignon Blanc (a New Zealand Marlborough) for good measures too with the fish pie.

I defy you not to bring back a case from the adjoining wine shop!

Just getting better. I love a good Sauvignon Blanc! I usually go for a Chilean - I know they're on the cheaper side, but I like 'em!

OT, sorry!

A chap I know who lives up Belthorn has a great view. On a good day you can see Ewood in line with Deepdale and right the way over to the coast. Only been up there once. Great view, but very windy!

I was going to say that, amazing views from up there, probably the best I've seen in Lancashire. I went up on my mountain bike, was difficult riding all that way but knowing you're going to see them views, spurs you on every pedal of the way ;)

I agree, that's a lovely view, went to a wedding there last year and it really set the scene.

Any views of Pendle from the Clitheroe side are my personal favourites, think the hill looks more remarkable than from the Dingle side.

And another nice one is looking down onto the valley from the Wellsprings up Pendle, you just have to imagine the cement works aren't there though, they're a real scar on what's otherwise a perfect view.

There's a stunning view actually inside the cement works albeit rather dizzying too. The 'hole' made by quarrying cannot be seen from the road but is absolutely massive, it's so deep that the bottom is at sea level.

 Just think theno you could profiteer out of this.

Unfortunately there is a slight problem. A major conflict with the last sentence of my post....... "Complete privacy with peace and quiet all week long. magic."
