[Archived] Get Down Early!

Recommended Posts

Yes, the stewards let everyone in with passes but we were told to hand over our tickets and were given a receipt, replacement cards are in the post. And there were no queues because they appear to have stopped writing down everyones details/collecting cards.

Another fine mess by the administration department of the club. At 2.30pm I was moved into three different turnstiles at the Darwen end of the Riverside, none of which worked. The gate steward eventually got his pass to work. My comments to him about being being a complete shamples went unheeded.

I got there at 2.50 and the queue for the Blackburn End was huge. At about 2.55 it suddenly speeded up. I presume that is when the stewards starting allowing anyone in without even bothering to try their card. Had they not done that then there would probably have been over a thousand people still outside at kick off.

Was the attendance figure a guess then?

My ticket didn't work on Saturday either..but the steward at the gate must have realised there was a problem and was letting people in seeing...checking they had their season tickets of course...

Sorry, wasn't clear. As Ben says, you basically just showed your season ticket to the steward. He then swiped his card over the reader and that let you in. Therefore the attendance could be calculated.

From what I can gather, people who turned up slightly earlier were having to try their own cards to see if they worked or not.

We had an explanation of the problem at the Fans Forum last night. There was a major system failure with a number of server problems including the one serving the SkiData system. This server would not reboot and was sent back to SkiData for repair - in the meantime SkiData provided another on loan. This was configured for the system and appeared to be working OK. It was only when the first fans arrived on Saturday that it was realised that the system wasn't accepting the oldest cards still held by fans - there are four different versions out there now. Within 10 minutes the club had worked out the problem and stewards were issued with control cards to let anyone in whose card didn't work. This obviously took a bit longer than normal, hence the queues, particularly near kick-off. Given at 2.45 there were still 15,000 fans to go in it's understandable that queues will develop if there's any problem.
