G Somerset Rover Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Stephen Hawking? ..I did change it to "world football" but thought I'd change it back for you after that cracker.

SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I'm glad I dont include Rovers in my weekend accumulators.....we're simply too unpredictable and have been for seasons! Villa, Arsenal, Burnley, Chelsea and United.....OH MY! .....could be tin hat time boys 'n' girls
Pinch Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 We seemed to attack okay and certainly had our chances, but the defence was appalling. I thought Nelson was past it last year but he is even worse this year - he can't even jump!! I agree 100%. It was always going to be hard for a manager to drop our captain/former captain, but we look better at the back when he is out.
Tris Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Andrews also had a 70 yard run. All these Andrews special moments happened at least 15 minutes after we'd gone 3 down. Sam said the players drop themselves. Well Andrews and Grella dropped themselves today. You know as well as the rest of us that both will start on Saturday against Villa.
des Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 have not watched the game so it is hard to comment, however I am goingt o watch it on sky. However a few points, I never like playing one up front and roberts cannot hold the ball up for long, why was our ex everton full back not picked, todate he was played well. The worrying thing is that we have a hard month and burnley have NINE points

tashor Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Backs to the wall boys...................... Best thing about supporting little old Rovers is that as long as we stay up everything is red and rosy........ I also believe that BFS is the perfect manager for R team................. BUT MAYBE IF HE PERSISTS IN PLAYING ROBERTS UP FRONT ON HIS OWN THEN EITHER HE OR I HAVE TO QUESTION OUR RAISON D'ETRE........ 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... REPEAT AFTER ME!!! 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... 4:4:2 marches Sam's barmy army.......... BARMY ARMY BARMY ARMY BARMY ARMY BARMY ARMY BARMY ARMY
Paul Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 You are saying we are going down...sam doesnt know what hes doing etc. Im saying we have 1 or 2 players who are not good enough to warrant a 1st team slot. Roberts, Nelsen & Andrews BIG difference Try reading what I said in the first place. I predicted we'd finish 15th/16th after spending a lot of time in the relegation zone. Till today I haven't publically questioned Allardyce, he's always been, for me, the footballing equivalent of a second-hand car salesman - convincing you the old banger is worth the asking price.
Hasta Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I saw 35 minutes of the second half and I thought going forward Dunn, Diouf and Hoilett looked OK. The rest were all tosh.
Bing Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 We just didn't compete today. Neither Andrews nor Grella got close to an Everton player all afternoon. Rodwell was allowed to stroll around and pass it about like he was in the park on a Sunday morning. Fellaini was never tracked. Salgado was abysmal and as I feared he could be a massive drain on the wage bill for the next 2 years. Just a total lack of quality (bar Robinson and Givet) through the whole team.
FourLaneBlue Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 You definitely can't. Very much pro Allardyce, you even intimated that under Bolton he played good football. When we play well we mostly lose, when we play badly we get hammered. The Ince fans weren't in love with him, they just knew what the alternative was. Sam 'The Messiah'. Don't make me sick unfortunately I still don't believe sacking him now is the answer. We have to hope me manage to scrape 17th. While Sam may not be 'The Messiah' he is still a far better alternative than Ince. Even being able "to hope me [sic] manage to scrape 17th" is an improvement on what we could have hoped to have acheived if we had not got rid of the hapless Ince. Sam needs to sort things and stop playing with Jason bleedin' Roberts as the main striker that is for sure and I am still astounded that we sold Warnock just to bring in a right back in Chimbonda. Or was it for two right backs including to push Salgado through? A blind man on a galloping horse knew we had the quantity in midfield but not the quality. Despite all this...Sam is still a far far far better manager at this level than Ince was proved to be.
BuckyRover Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I didn't say he was better than Ince. I said people were willing to give him a chance in the hope that he would be better than Allardyce. I like some of what he does but sometimes he infuriates me. We need to beat Villa.
John Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Allardyce said: "No player deserves to keep their shirts for the midweek Carling Cup game (at Nottingham Forest), apart from Chris Samba and Paul Robinson, for his fine saves in the second-half. Steven Reid and Brett Emerton will both come into the team on Tuesday night for the cup tie. Also I'm happy to see that Sam views the performance as unacceptable and is prepared to drop players. Not sure i agree with his comments about Samba, i am a big Samba fan but he has been very poor so far this season. Could just be that Samba is viewed as undroppable because he is the only defender with decent pace, plus the aerial/nuisance threat he offers. He now needs to back his comments with actions.
grinder Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I agree 100%. It was always going to be hard for a manager to drop our captain/former captain, but we look better at the back when he is out. Agreed - so why on earth have we loaned Zurab to Newcastle?? It makes no sense (other than financial) given the concerns over Nelsens form and fitness over the last year. Maybe we could offer them Nelsen instead - being geordies they might not notice the difference........................
thenodrog Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 4-5-1 works when you have good, fast wingers. Not trundlers. Disagree strongly. For 4-5-1 to work the 1 has to be one of the best players in the team. We don't really have a striker who excels in that position. It's possible that Di Santo will have the know how from his time at Chelsea but unfortunately he is not our player. Roberts is absolutely hopeless with his back to goal as a hold up man. He is certainly no Didier Drogba nor even Kevin Davies. His second touch is invariably a tackle. The only trick in his armoury is to chase low balls played down the channels for him to run onto.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I am more excited about this one than I have been about a Rovers game for a while. Fairly bounced out of bed thinking about it. Still bouncing Phil? Can't find the quote were you fancied us to lose 3-1.

Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 We are what we are; a team that has sold its best players over the last few years and not replaced them. If we get out of the bottom 6 at any stage this season it will be an achievement.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Tashor's starring tonight folks!!
Bobby G Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Inept. I cant complain about the overall commitment. Ive seen far less from a Rovers team. First thing I want to say is that there are three players that must be dropped immediately cause they need wake up calls. MGP, Andrews and Roberts are not good enough to be playing regularly. Id rather have Kalinic scuffing at shots up front than a useless "striker" doing nothing in 90 minutes. Secondly, Andrews. He tries, but he simply isnt good enough. And MGP, the less said the better. Its gotten to a point that his in-game contribution is better than his set plays. Everytime he goes for a throw in I dread it. I cant recall once that he has found a Rovers head from it. They usually fall short. Nelsen came on and his contribution for the Yobo goal was unbelievable. What was he thinking? I think 4-4-2 is the way to go forward as well. We dont have any striker of decent quality to play one up front. I feel sorry for Dunn but we cant play with a lump like Roberts up front on his own from the start. Very disappointed. I still believe we will turn this around because our overall play has been decent. Finally delighted with Sam's comments that anyone who plays well on Tuesday will play next Saturday too. That's incentive. Id start with Di Santo and Kalinic and play Junior on the left. He needs a run of games. Where is van Heerden? We have to beat Villa otherwise we will be rooted bottom after those 3 away games in October.

Yep,lets drop our best players for this Banana skin of a cup tie and lets see the feathers fly on here if matters go tits up eh!!

AggyBlue Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Yep,lets drop our best players for this Banana skin of a cup tie and lets see the feathers fly on here if matters go tits up eh!! We should be dropping players that don't perform to the level that we expect whether you think they're our best players or not. That's why we have a big squad.
