John Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I'll say it again - why do some people think Reid will make any difference. He wasn't exactly pulling up trees before his injury ( another one mind you) so what do people think he is going to be like after 2 seasons out of the game? Don't get me wrong , I like Reid but doubt he will be of the required level anymore. Don't like saying it, but I agree - however, you start wishing for anything positve when you become desperate.

Paul Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I'll say it again - why do some people think Reid will make any difference. I don't think Reid will make much difference, he'll do very well to make it back to his previous form which was never great. Don't get me wrong I like him and he makes a real contribution but he's not going to suddenly stir up the midfield. Other that screamer of a goal, against Wigan?, I can't think of another stand out Reidy moment.

JAL Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I disagree - why cant he shoot? NZonzi is a midfielder....as is Van Herden....Grella, Dunn, Reid & Emerton are now all fit....How many fit midfielders do you want? As for saturday - maybe they were, on sunday we played a team slightly better than us, just didnt perform. Regarding Hoilet and shooting, thats just my analysis from the West Ham (3 attempts), Hibs(1 attempt) and the one shot second half v Everton game which was so bad it looked like a cross. Sam's error was picking Salgado (or at least he should have putting him in the centre of defense -a la: Chimbonda, Salgado, Samba, Givet- due to his lack of pace) and his general team selection and formation (ALL WRONG!!) No doubt Sam should take some blame, but so too should the players for a lack of effort! It was individual errors at the back that cost us. These were obviously due to the pressure on the defence because of Andrews and Grella failing to adhere to their defensive responsibility in midfield. All sides defend from the front. One (useless) man up front will NOT acheive this, Sam!! After Sam's errors, it was up to the team to pull their socks up and do their best! If not for a few BASIC individual errors, this 3-0 would have been a 0-0. Not JUST Sam's fault (though largely) but also the player's fault. As I've said, I hope this game was the kick up the backside that was required. When you are playing against better quality players, you'll know that it doesnt matter how much effort you put in as their class will show at some point. This was ALWAYS going to be the case against Everton. It seems peoples perception of how good Everton are, was completely wrong.

If that was true worse players should never be able to beat better players? But that happens a fair bit of the time... Newcastle and Middlesborough had far more talent than most of their peers in the premiership yet they went down. How did that happen? Hull and Stoke were very very short on comapartive quality yet they stayed up. It's a mystery...
Miker Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I bet you if this week we beat Aston Villa, everyone will be praising Sam and then the week after when we lose 4-0 to Arsenal, everyone will be back to calling for Sam's head. I just hope no one from the team reads this board because it would be utterly demoralising.

Yes and No, maybe its my piscean trait, but I always thought Everton away was going to be a harder game than Villa at Home - work that one out. Did Newcastle and Middlesbrough have more talent than Hull and Stoke thats your perception along with the medias probably formed over a longer period of time than just last season. Hull were very lucky though, extremely lucky.
gumboots Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Everton view At lest it's only the car parks, which actually belong to the council not Rovers according to the people who take the money. Their away supporters area is crumbling and is one of the scruffiest and scariest around
waggy Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Everton already up to 4 at Hull. did hull not make ten changes, and everton play virtually there 1st team
LWX Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Everton view Well written piece. Maybe we miss Hughes more than we'd like to admit, but it's clear we're not quite the same opponents at the moment.
gumboots Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Well written piece. Maybe we miss Hughes more than we'd like to admit, but it's clear we're not quite the same opponents at the moment. We all knew we'd miss the Mark Hughes we had here for most of his tenure, until he looked around and decided the grass was going to be greener elsewhere. We were lucky in the way his appointment worked out for us - and unlucky in what has happened not just to us but in terms of other club's cash injections, since he's left.

That's certainly true... the gap in spending capability is getting bigger and bigger!
John Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 We all knew we'd miss the Mark Hughes we had here for most of his tenure That's why it hurt so badly when he left, the only way for us was down....
