It's awful. Yesterday the dingles were borassic now they are guaranteed 60m same as us! Probably the equivalent of about 10 years total income.

Any fighters out there knows the golden rule is when your deadly enemy is down and out move in and slit his throat, cos if you let him get up he'll slit yours. Unfortunately Burnely have played their get out of gaol card and are up and running! No matter what any dreamers think it is not good commercially for BRFC. The local 'cake' can only be split in so many ways and with our situation surrounded by strong local rivals this can only be big time bad.

Who would fancy the job of filling BRFC corporate hospitality areas in this recession with them and Notlob vying to do the same?

I'd love it if we get them last game of the season, and the story fits Rovers view. We've drawn two promoted teams the last day of the season for the last two years now. I'd love it if their last game in the top flight was against us.

Unfortunatly I think they'll be OK, Coyles done well and I'm especially keen to find out how they got Alexander at 36 to play 62 games, thats something else at his age.

As I said on the other site I watched the game yesterday. The Dingles are a decent, compact side and at least did try and play football but they were playing a side that never turned up. The Blades were woeful, probably one of the worst play off performances ever. No wonder their manager resigned right after that shambles.

Looking through their side, without massive strengthening they'll be straight back down. The more skilful players are too long in the tooth and have all failed previously at a higher level. The younger ones are just not good enough. Coyle must be a great coach but even Fergie wouldn't be good enough to keep that lot up.

I said last season - and got howled at - that the return of your chums would put a real buzz around the whole area.

Like it or not they will sell out their ground for most games and take shedloads away. There are now NINE Premier League clubs in the old Granada TV area.

It means your club and fans will respond so that they are not seen as being rivals and competitors. More of your people may turn up.

Tell me what's wrong with that?

And, by the way, the people who run it are good football people...at all levels. There are a lot worse who could be in the Premier League than them...and few better.

Nothing wrong with that at all - well done to the Clarets and to Owen - they deserved it and your spot on, we have at least 2 more derby games next season and both venues will be packed to the limit and the atmosphere will be electric which is fantastic for both clubs !

Now, what news is there on Rovers in terms of the transfers Nicko - are you able to comment yet ont he unkown, or how close we are to Givet ?

I thought Burnley played some excellent football and deserved to win.

- I'm glad they're up. I know people who have not had a season ticket for years who are getting one.

- I don't think Burnley coming up will affect our crowd numbers. No one will head from Ewood to t'Turf. If the Chiefs at Ewood have go the formula right - and they seem to be about there - Ewood will be full anyway and an awful lot cheaper. Not to mention much nicer for a floating fan.

- They will give us a game.

- They will find it incredibly hard to stay up.

- We need someone to laugh at now the barcodes have gone.

- And we can start now because Owen Coyle is off to Celtic where he has a 50% chance of winning something regularly. Only an idiot would forsake that opportunity for a certain relegation and a sacking! :D

He's dammed if he stays and dammed if he goes!

A dingle on talksport just tried to defend their poor gates and fan base. His argument was..."Well we get fans from Yorkshire, as far as Keighley." Says it all really!

They don't really belong in the North West Super Premiership then! Only Premiership team in Yorkshire gives them a catchment of 5.5m!

Title says it all really.

I've got no problems with them making it to the big time.

I've got no problems with the like of Longsiders or Yorksclaret making their point, at least they are rational.

Mr Dingle and Ranulf are another matter, as they seem to be unable to make sense or present reasonable argument.

Anyway, I welcome them, I welcome the local derby. For me it's back to the 60's and all the school playground rivalries.Let the Rovers crush them on the pitch.

Not so much in Blackburn itself, but certainly in its hinterland, it will come as quite a culture shock to many born before or simply unaware of the cheek-by-jowl nature of the rivalry.

On balance it's good for the area. Given that the 'rules have now changed', it makes John Williams' decision to cut season tickets all the more prescient...or am I giving him too much credit?

Leftfooter, I think your are right to give JW credit.

I think he saw a resurgence of football in the neolithic pastures to the north.

He most certainly has nailed it and reduced their earning capacity somewhat, in addition to their already announced freebees.

Tactically this lot from west yorkshire getting promoted for one season is a problem we have to turn into an opportunity. They will get more supporters from Greater Leeds area and West Yorkshire generally......we have to keep expanding to the West and North Lancashire area (or Lanky United by stealth) But we also have to market in Yorkshire(LOW prices!) and hope to halt the growth of long term interest in Dingledom(a disease known to affect the brain and the number of fingers).

All considered still feel pretty sick about the performance of the blunt Blades...and anyone thinking otherwise should rinse their mouths out or live in Accy,Ossy or Padiham.

We all know that Blackburn is a town of 100 thousand, 130000 with Darwen, we have a very sizeable Asian populace, very few of which go.

Burnley have a large hinterland stretching from Accy to West Yorkshire.

Where the hell do we manage to pull in on average 20k home fans a game, nearly 26000 home fans on Sunday?

Its an amazing achievement.

By the way Nicko, big whoop that the Dingles will be selling 17000 home tickets a game (half of them free).

So Dave, have you checked flight prices yet, or are you waiting until the fixture list is published?

After all Rovers v. Burnley in the top flight mght be a once in a life time opportunity for most of us.

I'm of the opinion that a rivalry is at its best only when you're actually playing your rivals. So as long as we beat them and finish higher than them in the table, I'm all for Burnley in the Premiership.

Nicko, whilst I'd agree that it's good for football in the region, how can you say the "agent and Mr Flood" are good football people? They're in it for the quid, didn't they sell the ground?

Put yourself in their shoes. Small crowds, pretty high wages, annual losses that you have to pay for.

That is being a football benefactor in anyone's language.

Fortunately they had the balls to bring in a young unknown manager who could do it on a shoestring. It needed Cup runs to pay the bills and avoid a sale this season. The tightrope is that tight. Tighter than I can even go into.

If you take a gamble like that you deserve to win.

Flood and Kirby have lost money on the club in the past on a regular basis...and I know that the Premier League cash will be spent wisely and tossed away on silly wages for journeymen.

Quite impressed with these people during the time I have dealt with them.

The anticipation of the fixture release in June is massive.

June 17th I'm sure I heard a few weeks ago.

Don't want to play them. Don't want them anywhere near us. Hope they lose each and every game. On the plus side we'll just have to put them in their place again, as we do every so often (on and off for 30 years).

I can't quite get over how poor both Reading and Sheff Utd were to be honest. They offered next to nothing over three games.

Coyle has done a very good job. If he has any sense he'll bail out now.

Can't argue with that, but there is the ongoing problem of getting their money back or as much as possible; that's part of human nature (and the Mrs)

We'll see how they handle the big time. I can't imagine it being as easy as "cash will be spent wisely" though.

I think your comment about needing cup runs to pay the bills says it all.

Methinks it's a bit like running your car on the smell of an oily rag.

But anyway, good luck to Coyle and the team, they've earned it. As long as they get hammered twice during the season by a team from down the road, I don't mind.

Burnley's promotion is a fantastic achievement for a club of their size and finances... but desite the PL money they'll receive I find it hard to see how they will compete.

The gap between the Championship and the PL is huge. Burnley have the 4th least resources in the Championship, and one of the smallest squads - a squad that is aging fast. I just can't see how they'll be able to compete in a league where finance and squad depth matters so much. Coyle's going to have to find a lot of gems at cheap prices to keep them up.

Then again, I never thought Stoke would stay up, so who knows. Just looking forward to thrashing them twice next year :rover:

What's good about next season is that the easy, comfortable, smug superiority you've enjoyed so much has evaporated. We'll both start on 0 points, in the same division.

If you want to claim bragging rights now, you'll have to start earning it, from day one.

Bring. It. On.

Watched the game at my sister's in Darwen, a little help please.

Still recovering from all the drinkies at the Darwen music thingy the night before, and the hallucinogenic doner from the 'golden grill', I swear I saw a Burnley player taking a corner with a chocolate bar in his hand ??

Or was it a lucozade style foil pouch full of liquified meat and potato pie ??

Please tell me I wasn't alone in this ?
