I wasn't gloating Nicko - just passing on the gossip - not sure there would be anything to gloat about signing relatively unknown young players anyway.

As you say, all young internationals with a resale value. Not sure we claimed we were better than the Dutch, just that Coyle had us playing footie rather than the industrial 'Wimbledon'esque fare we had been served under Cotterill for to long.

I wasn't meaning you. But the point is no matter how many good, long-term signings Coyley makes they will still have to do it on the pitch.

Got to say he's taken to spending money quite well so far.

Did you not rate Cotterill then LS?

I thought he was doing alright for you under the circumstances - came over as being quite knowledgeable in the media as well, just appeared to be having a bit of a sounessque moment before you got rid of him.

Never hard when it nots yours :)

To be fair he seems to have his players in mind and is willing to go after them. Lets hope they can do it on the park - though as Hanson once famously said 'you'll never win anything with kids' :)

Out of interest, why no Driver or Mills - you heard we are not interested or that we can't agree terms/fees?

You obviously didn't watch Cotterball.

I almost felt sorry for them.

Almost.

When he first arrived he did a good job with what he had left - which was no money and little in the way of players. A bit like when Hughes arrived at your Gaff he did what he had to do, it wasn't pretty but you accept it as a nesecesary evil. Where Hughes then built his own brand of football Cotterill continued in that vein, it was clearly his style, he was also nver wrong and never at fault. Furthermore he was a bit of a sulker. He then went on the longest run in the clubs history without winning a game (Yep, even during the 'Orient' year we didn't go as many games without a win) and acted as though nothing was wrong.

In brief - no I didn't rate Cotterill beyond his first season.

Driver was an alternative to Johnson until the cost was quoted at something so ridiculous I won't even mention it here.

Mills has not had a mention.

A bit like that Danish chap who played a couple of games for Everton.

Quite right, ffan.

Fletcher is a decent coup for Burnley, I reckon. I know nicko said he isn't Big Sam's type of player, but I wouldn't have minded him here.

I hope they don't get McCarthy, if they get him for £1.5m or so, they'll get a lot of money in return.

Exciting times. Of course in Prem terms 3 million is nothing but it is nice for once to be on the other side of these things, breaking our transfer record and being linked to good young talent.

That said I am getting worried that before long we will all be forced to wear kilts in the stands and sing flower of scotland before each game.....

Maybe in a faiir while but they have to perform in a much better league and McDonald struggled in the Championship, not to mention Kris Boyds goals at Rangers, do you think he would get 10 in the Prem??

The lads look good prospects but it all depends how they adapt!!

McDonald did not struggle in the championship to be honest.

he didn't play to often - not sure why but some rumours suggested injuries, possibly linked to the fact that he was still growing (similar to Gerrard a few years ago now?) but when he has played he has looked a quality midfielder. In fact he is one I hope and believe will shine for us in what promises to be a very difficult season.

Jacobsen is a full international with Denmark, Mills well a few internationals here and there. Unless Jacobsen had an extremely serious injury, he will be a very good signing. Surely he is ready to go, after having his medical. Jacobsen is by far a better player than Mears, but we shall see the man who was part of that Derby team, that broke all sorts of records.

What have they spent?

Mears - £500k - can't say I know that much about him.

Fletcher - £3m - highly rated in Scotland, but again, as above.

Edgar - tribunal, presumably around £1m or so - Newcastle sorry to see him go, but that doesn't say much...

Then they are after Marcus Tudgay, Brian Easton and James McCarthy...hmmm...

We had a good footballing side anyway, just lacked a bit of pace at the back, particularly right back, and maybe up top. These are the first things OC has rectified.

As each day passes and we add more hungry young players to the squad while everyone else packs out their squads with half-arsed Carlos Kickaballs on crazy wages the more hopeful I get.

Champions League at the very least now for us.
