Alex Rover Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 As for your last point, I mentioned before that pre-season is all about building up match-fitness. Nothing else.So not confidence, refining tactics, positions, formations and team selection? JHC.

1864roverite Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Hardly - I've not bought a season ticket for the last 3 seasons. A combination of the Cotterball and the club giving up in January led me to decide I'd keep my option for giving in January open as well. I still went to nearly every game until last season when I should have bought a season ticket but the business was already struggling by then and I decided it would not be prudent. As for how do you watch the games - you never heard of match of the day? I've had a basic sky package with kids channels and only added sports for the play offs - but I'm keeping it on for next season as well now. Now I'm not sure how numbers add up in Blackburn but where I'm from £11.00 (the cost of Sky sports) x 9 (approx months in a season) comes to £99.00. Cost of a season ticket £462.00. If you know what they were why not let us all know? Rovers average attendance pre JW 1987/88 - 8941 (no cup games included or play offs) 1988/89 - 8891 (no cup games or play offs) 1989/90 - 9090 (no cup games or play offs) That is still well above 4500 or even less than you had the seasons before. Hope that helps you some

cn174 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 As for how do you watch the games - you never heard of match of the day? If you think you're going to get much more than 3 minutes on MOTD every week then you're kidding yourself!! Longer highlights are not for the likes of Rovers or Burnley you know (unless you get walloped 4-0 by a big club that is)
ABBEY Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 was getting my pre stag do full english on saturday when these dingles came in and fella behind the counter was giving one of em stick because he never been before...was one of those surrreal moments in life hahaha

Longer highlights are not for the likes of Rovers or Burnley you know (unless you get walloped 4-0 by a big club that is) They`ll get plenty of airtime in the first few weeks........a sort of novelty period. plus i`m sure as the season goes on, they`ll be getting their fair share of 'goal of the months' shown against them. If i was the Bumley chairman, i`d be selling extra sponsorship space on that fat goalie`s back......cos MOTD will be showing 'the Beast' picking the ball out of the back of his net a few times each week.
Moorey Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 The main emerging benefit of this thread is the potential it has for next May. As I see it, we're clear favourites to go down. No doubt it'll give Rovers fans a laugh if it happens, but, lets face it, it is expected. The p*ss takes from Rovers fans won't be that hard to take to be honest. It's difficult to get irked by something you've anticipated for 12 months. However, imagine if we stayed up. Unlikely, but not impossible. I could probably quote back a hundred+ replies to this thread. Imagine how much some of the Rovers fans on this thread will be quietly seething. Then imagine if we finished above Rovers or Rovers were relegated and we weren't. Oh my.... I'll save you the bother of typing "keep dreaming" type responses. Also anticipated.

At this moment in time Moorey, Burnley have a great chance of staying up and maybe nicking a result against us but things can change very quickly. If I was a Pompey fan, or a Hull fan, i'd be a tad concerned. The question for Burnley IS, can Caldwell and Carlisle go through a premiership season not being cruelly exposed game after game?

Valid question JAL. Caldwell had a fantastic season last year, but I fear the Prem might be too much. Clarke's a different ball game. On his day he's got the full package, but he's prone to full on donkey spells. Hopefully OC and the backroom staff can keep him on his A game. We've now got Edgar, but I've no idea how much quality we've got there. The defence is the biggest cause for concern, I do agree.
micktheblue Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 May I just say it is really good to hear a sensible conversation between two genuine football FANS. Long live the rivallery between the two clubs, but lets keep it reasonable and good humoured. I am old enough to remember those games at Ewood on Easter mondays or Turf moor boxing day, in times when at half time fans could walk around the ground and change ends!!! Lots of banter, chanting and arguments, but not many got hurt. Mind you, also in those days youngsters like myself then could run down the tunnel following the players too..................... WOW how times have changed haha

Indeed! In fact Burnley could use him as the background board for post match interviews.

I can't wait for the first game, takes me back to the days at SMC monday morning, giving it large when we won, arriving as late as possible when we lost.
Gav Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Clarke's a different ball game. On his day he's got the full package, but he's prone to full on donkey spells. Most burnley fans I had the misfortune to speak with wanted Carlisle out of the club in the early part of last season. It was a similar situation with Blake a few season back, he was booed constantly at home, now he’s some sort of chubby hero. Fickle these football fans I tell ya, bring back Wilcox, Sherwood………….

Well as I remember it you would not need to arrive late too often Dave.
dave birch Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Well as I remember it you would not need to arrive late too often Dave. Fife, I remember "nicking" the school bell on friday, and getting it back on Monday before it had been missed.

Even more so, when Hull are about to sign a striker who played 27 times in the Prem last season, scoring NO goals. Daryl Murphy.
longsiders1882 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Another defender signed today - Richard Eckersley from Man Utd - turned down a contract offer from United to get first team football. Not sure how Coyle sees it but it seems very likely that Carlisle and Caldwell will not be playing that many games together in the centre any way - though I'm sure one or the other will for their experience.
Plastic Head Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 You just can't make it up... For Psychic read Psycho Perhaps the ghost of Steve Kindon has been in contact.........is he dead yet??? I thougt he was on 26 December 1977...Oh Waddy Waddy!
leftfooter Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Another crap post from the board's connoisseur of self-indulgent waffle. “The thermometer of success is merely the jealousy of the malcontents”. Let's see. Bitter 'novice' poster, appears to have an almost obsessive knowlege of all things 'Drog and iamarover. 'Ritchie', having never won the respect or recognition from your peers - that you think you deserve, are you sure that you're real name isn't Robert Underdunk Terwilliger? Either way, my advice is that you should really listen to your probation officer a bit more.
