I think it's a joke having the maternity unit there, as is having the A&E for B*rnley in Blackburn.

My kids won't be born in B*rnley, I would rather my partner have a home birth.

You aint wrong - especially when you consider it is also A&E for Nelson and Colne and on the grapevine there is much talk about transport times causing issues with treatment, the fact the hospital cannot cope, is dirty and the staff getting less than glowing references it all starts to look like a dogs dinner of a decision.

Don't get me wrong, I can see the logic for having certain specialist units at different sites (e.g. ENT etc) but not the time critical stuff like A & E, Maternity etc. Just crazy.

As for Champions League Sam, I was hoping for top 2 so I do hope we won't be needing a last day win to secure the 4th spot.

I wouldn't say Blackburn Royal Hosptial is dirty, but yes - they do struggle to meet the demands brought upon it. B*rnley should have their own Hospital as it just doesn't make sense having one hospital for a large size catchment area as mentioned.

I honestly cannot say whether it is or isn't Ohmi, I've not had the need to visit to be honest (though I did use the old hospital twice, for my sons tonsils when he was 2 and after an op on my wife went wrong at Gisburn Park) and that, despite its obvious age was clean, well run with great staff. Somewhere there exists a 'dossier' of issues experienced at the new hospital and I'm afraid cleanliness (not the dust, dirt type stuff) and hygiene was allegedly a concern.

I'm not blaming Blackburn for this by the way, had it been done the other way the same issues would exist. To many patients, to few staff and this is what you get.

Put some specialisms in Blackburn, some in Burnley but keep a dedicated 'blue light' and maternity service at both - all IMHO of course.

Agreed. Out patient clinics, planned operations etc. are fine either way. It's not too inconvenient, but emergencies be they accidents or impending births need to be local. The current situation is unacceptable.

I think Fife Rover once said his first game was before that. There is also Bazza and Al who have been going for many years. Some others as well. Quite a few old schoolers on this board. Wonder who on this board can claim to have been to the earliest game?

Hey this could be quite good fun. let's do it.... and no cheating mind!

My very first visit to Ewood Park was Nov 30th 1946 to see Rovers make a very boring 1-1 draw with Grimsby Town. I particularly remember it because it was my first long bike ride from where we lived in Ashton on the Blackpool side of Preston, and by the time we got to Ewood I was just about dropping off the bike (well I was only ten). Can't actually remember anything about the game itself, but I do remember quite vividly being very impressed with the ground and especially the view I had of the Riverside and the old Riverside stand which more or less sold me on supporting Rovers from then on.

Ooops! just realised this is actually the Burnley Promotion thread (sorry Mods) Perhaps we need another thread if we are going to do this. :) Can the mods please start a new thread "Earliest Memories of the Rovers" and move my post and maybe FLB's and any others that fit the bill? Thanks!

It has messed up work for a lot of nurses' too, some have to work shifts at Blackburn, and vice versa. If it ain't broke - don't fix it!

Amusing result from t'turd today although pre-season results dont really indicate that much and the Dingles had a slow start to the last term.

What seems a bit odd is them being at home. Isnt it usually the case that the Premier League club is generally the visitor in these friendlies in order to earn the lower division opposition a few quid?

FourFourTwo came out with their annual fixtures and predictions this week, only issue I buy of theirs each year as the full page format for every Prem team is handy for keeping an eye on the long term picture.

Anyway their "panel of experts" did their predicted league table and had Burnley finishing 20th, just behind Portsmouth and Hull City, with Birmingham and Wolves beating the drop. We're pegged for 12th place. I don't usually put much stock in predictions but I remember fuming over them having us finishing 16th last season and they ended up pretty close. They do seem to overrate Spurs and Chelsea each year though (Spurs are 6th, apparently, and Chelsea will win the league).

I don't think Burnley will finish 20th, although they're in for a rough start based on some very difficult fixtures early on and some disappointing (for their lot, anyway) form in pre-season.

Putting aside the temptation to sneer at a record low total of points I wouldn't mind the Dingles staying up - the more local teams in the Prem, and small clubs at that, the better. Let's send some more overspending Big Clubs down and replace them with Preston and Blackpool, 10 Lancashire sides in the Premier League has a nice ring to it.

We won just about all our pre season games last season then started te league with Lost 4-1 Lost 3-0 Draw Draw. So pre season really means diddly (luckily)

The game was agreed before our promotion, anyway good to have a home game for the new faces to get a feel for the ground.

Maj - What tune did the 'Blackburn will murder you' go to??

We were very poor today, but there was some quality chanting from the Leeds fans. It was more than "Blackburn will murder you". They started to go through all the Prem teams on alphabetical order. :D

Burnley is famously well supported, with only Middlesbrough anywhere near us in terms of the average crowd to local population ratio. Coyle goes further. 'I reckon with the way season ticket sales have gone, you could make the case this is the best supported club in the world. Remember virtually the entire population of Burnley would fit inside Old Trafford.'

Managers and players always talk up their fans, but do they, I ask, really make a difference? 'Absolutely,' he says. 'Football without fans just isn't football. You can watch us train here all day and real fanatics might find it interesting, but at a match the fans are part of the spectacle. Last year we were incredibly well supported home and away and it makes a difference to how the players feel about themselves and how they perform.'

Owen Coyle, the man,the myth and currently taking lessons in spin from giddy Alastair.

"you could make the case this is the best supported club in the world"

FA Cup 3rd Round Replay, Tuesday 23th January 2009. Turf Moor. QPR. 2-1 AET. Attendance: 3,760.

Even though it was probably a bit rainy and cold that night I really wouldn't bother if I was you Owen.

Ah, remember it well, a win, easy parking and no queue for a half time pie and pint, what more could you ask for?

Really looking forward to parking a mile and a half away up the top of Brunshaw hill this season and no sodding chance of a half time beverage as all the plastics will get down there 10 minutes before the half time whistle.

It is interesting - that if you class Blackburn as a town in its own right - and not a unitory authority including Darwen - populations aren't too different.

The reality is that both towns suffer from the same catchment area problems - in the event that Burnley actually manage to stay in the EPL for more than one season - attendances will show a slow decline as they did for Rovers.

being the best supported club in the world in the best league in the world and the richest league in the world means that they will be able to buy the best players in the world, build the best stadium in the world stay at the top of the best league in the world and generally just be the best,

then the season will start!

Well for one I'm really looking forward to the Dingles in the Prem next year. I'm 32 and have only ever seen 1 season where they are in the same league as us (being at Ewood since 85').

The derby games will be brilliant, far more so than those against our supposed rivals at the breezeblock.

As for who wins or loses, I have obvious preferences, but I'd much rather be playing the dingles than Charlton twice a year, despite who wins.

For all the true proper Burnley fans I wish them well. They have more rights to be there than any plastic manc or scouser.

I don't know how many dingles were at the Leeds game... but it is pretty irrelevant set in the context of what happened on the field of play.

I was going to post on here that the dingles to beat the Mancs was one of the best value bets of the new season. Now I would just be laughed at by you dingles for making such a suggestion.

Eric Sykes (sorry Owen Coyle) said......."Last year we were incredibly well supported home and away"

I seem to remember crowds of under 13k for almost the entire season.......until play-off time <_<

There must be some irony in the constant discussion on here about the perception that BFC and it's fans are obsessed with attendances.

You've probably got a good point there (I'd take them as soon as you can if I were you) but when the burnley manager is saying things like "you could make the case this is the best supported club in the world" then honestly what do you expect?

It's another absolute hum dinger of a quote from a burnley manager. Having said that is it really genuine? (is there a link?) It's up there with the Ferrari / Mini thing (Stanley Ternant), the "team of the 70's" promise (Jimmy Adamson) and "I think things are going rather well" (John Bond).

The statement would have made a little more sense if he had just changed one word....
